He's going to try & undo a lot of the damage done to the middle class by Reagan, Bush I, Clinton & especially Bush II. A lot is expected of him since he applied for the job - so he has to deliver on most of it by the end of his first term - climate change laws, energy laws, health care, job growth, foreign relationship repair, pull out of Iraq, de-escalate from Afghan - fund domestic security forces like FBI, CIA, INS, NSA, DHS, ATF, Coast Guard, Border & Port patrols - many delta force ops.

Remember when Rahm Emanuel said something like, "What's important is not letting a crisis go to waste..." That's what they are doing here. They know there is something they can take credit for to try and give government a good reputation and they are taking credit for it. We will pay later in taxes though and there is no "trend" in the market. What's going to make it go? The last big wave was "computers". More taxes, no special tech on the horizon. I just don't see it.

Any person that is the president will always try to claim credit for something good that happens that would be hard for anybody to prove the cause of. "Maybe" the economy would get better faster if the gov wouldn't have gotten involved. And if the eco were really bad, the pres, whoever it is, would say it would have been worse if they didn't get involved. The recovery will be slow because everybody will pay for the bailout money. It's a show to get you to accept more daddy government.

Bush is gone, why do people bring up Bush anymore? Most of the time, it doesn't matter who is the pres when the economy is good or bad. The gov is not what makes or breaks the economy. The government doesn't not run the economy! ..not yet anyway. Unfortunately, it's moving in that direction. Most of the time it's simply fate that determines what the economy does when "whoever" is in office. Government messes it up by getting too involved.

Summers & Geithner are a part of his economic team - while I don't trust them - people will be more vigilant about forcing them to urge more regulations - final say rests with him - If he doesn't pass the regulations to stop the market from growing this quickly - then he won't get another 4 years - because all the work on health care, climate change, etc. is tied to the economy - if not regulated, the banks will cause another disaster - if they are & growth is monitored properly then Obama 2012

By 2012 gold will be 3,000 an oz, the USA dollar removed from reserve currency status, and nasty hyperinflation due to extended quantitative easing program.
Its literally impossible to curtail inflation once the train starts rolling. We don't have the luxury of what Paul Volcker did in the 70's in raising interest rates to 20% since the USA is negative in savings. The USA then was still a net creditor and could weather a deflation after curtailing credit.
Its a matter of 'when' not 'if'.

The economy is only now pulling out of the nose dive & thats only with the artifical stimulus provided - it will have to hold for now until the new businesses start hiring after putting down their infrastructure - at least 8 more months before jobs start to truly rise. Living off unemployment & fighting with eviction notices isn't fun but its about weathering the storm for now. Now he has to push for putting back the regulations on the banks & corporations that existed earlier - not fun or easy

We need to push the HSA more. A few tweaks here and there. Reform tort.-to drive down medical costs. If Insurance companies are only making 2.3% profts, we need to know where expenses are coming from.
We need to open the state borders to allow buying insurance across state lines-possibly other countries.
We need more info about medical services to allow consumers to make educated choices.
A socialist solution does not play into the strengths of the American economy and culture.
