It's a shame that the Carrefour hypermarkets that were built in the southern half of the UK in the 1970's are now all Asda. The biggest one at Cribbs Causeway is still impressive. Apparently it was a British retail company operating under the Carrefour name and concept but planning problems meant that only a small number of stores were ever built.
Yeah, Carrefour is actually the second biggest retailer in the world - bigger than Tesco and second only to Wal-Mart. They tried to break into the UK market in the 70s and 80s but it didn't really work, so they sold off their stores to Gateway etc.
I'm an ex-pat in Australia and was proud to see Royston on the Robert Hutchinson opticians ad, that was where i was born and raised. (Royston, not the opticians).
That sounds like Bert Kwouk on the Fiesta advert.

The Dimension shampoo commercial I remember so vividly - I remember my aunt used to use it every day :)

This video is obviously recorded from the Sandy Heath transmitter. Luton International Airport doesn't even have a 'London' tag on it yet!

Gateway, Fine Fare and Carrefour now (with Kwiksave) Somerfield. Queensway went into liquidation and Rumbelows went the same way.

This is interesting. I think Carrefour are still around in France? I have a longer Fine Fare (on its own) advert on my videos, complete with jingle!
