  • YES! exactly.

Being someone who is dealt with social anxiety personally and spoken with people with similar problems, I picked up on what was going on immediately. Letterman's attitude towards Joaquin's behavior was incredibly disappointing, he is one of my favorite hosts...

  • We're working on the documentary about Joaquin's transition to rap and are currently looking for extra footage from Jaoquin's concerts, if you want to submit this video for possible inclusion in the film, visit joaqdoc (dot) com

  • Just do the world a favor and go away. You sad, sad people with your dark ways and crybaby monotone. Always feeling sorry for yourselves. Shut the hell up and get a job!!!

  • An actor with an anxiety problem I believe is an oxymoron.

  • What a dumb thing to say. He didnt speak his mind he didnt say much at all. He doesnt have crap disorders he was acting so people think he is bad ass. you must be stupid to believe it. He is just tryn to premote his new job

  • Good speech!

I agree with you, he's nervous. BUT it could also be acting for his document or whatever...

I really hope not tho, because that would be stupid. Id still like him, but yeah... O.o

Still, this is a still good speech. : ) awesome!

  • thanks... i dont let what these people say get to me, just like we're expressing our opinions theyre expressing their's..... Gotta love freedom of speech

  • C'mon man the guy was acting and provided a good and funny moment of television. Thanks to Letterman!

  • he wasnt acting

  • Even Letterman says to Joaquin: ''Good job'' at the end. It is entertainment.

  • he was acting how gullible are you

  • You can't control yourself when people poke fun at you? Practic some restraint. HOw do you find that hard. Here let's practic, Go screw yourself up a kite! how are you feeling now? bout to poo a bunch of hair?

  • jah-queen? his name is joaquin (wah-keen) and are you a shrink? is that your professional opinion? poor joaquin. jeez. i'm sure jahqueen feels better knowing you approve of his "performance" on letterman. personally i think he was good in a few flicks but i also think as a person he's a bit arrogant. that's MY professional opinion. i also think he was wacked out on h or something, no nervousness or whatever you said. it'd be sad if that was the case, be a shame to lose life like his bro river.

  • did you get that insult right after what, 3 tries? Try a little harder next time.

  • you should fucking kill yourself you weird bastard

  • Thanks for posting this video.. you rock dude..

    *****JOAQUIN PHOENIX RULES*****

  • guess what is in my ass?

  • Mwahha! Maybe you and Joaquin can hug and cry together.

That was an actor being a wanker.

Ok lets be civilised then... Praise to him for doing what he wants to do, and being who he wants to be.

If you say so bravo! But he was being rude, and a disrespectfull to the host, the audience, and his fans, if thats who he wants to be then he wants to be a dick.

So if that was him showing his true colours, he can get himself some new fans.

  • Jesus, dude ~ It's comedy without jokes.

    Look up Andy Kaufman.

Seriously, it's amazing how many people will believe what's put out before them.

Okay, I take it back, there is a joke, but it's on all the people that think it's real. The people that get it, are the ones laughing . . . at the people that don't get it.

  • I agree with this vidoe what you said and the jokes were uncalled for

  • He DOES NOT have a nervous anxiety disorder! Idiots! He's either acting, on drugs, or he's gone off the deep end. Regardless, it's a ridiculous supposition! You know nothing about him. You didn't even pronounce his name correctly. Go look at his other interviews. He's silly and genuine and very interactive. He's a great actor, and he's very down to earth. This last Letterman appearance was not a true representation of his natural state of mind. Give it up!

  • I dunno... he doesn't seem the type who'd falsely represent himself as that would sort of imply that he was just doing it for the attention. Sometimes people fall into a a difficult slump and they just aren't themselves. His behavior seemed quite genuine and I can definitely identify with what he appeared to be going through--growing tired of something to the point where it gets you down in all aspects of life; you're not yourself. I hope he finds happiness and I'd love to see him act again.

  • It's not false representation if it's a prank, you weenie!

  • But the 'prank' has gone on since he announced his retirement; there's no punchline. What's he going to do, announce that he was only pretending to be emotionally unstable for the past four months... just for the hell of it...gotcha!? That's not a prank, it's false representation, you condescending little shit.

  • how about u just suck his dick u fuckin homo

  • This is really insightful. I hadn't looked at the interview in this way, partly because it's so hard to interpret anything else other than what is portrayed on T.V. Thank you for voicing your opinion.

  • he does not have an anxiety disorder. The guy is a famous celeb and has been through plenty of interviews he can handle a crowd. It had to be a ruse.....or he is on drugs. But hey he's got us all talking.

  • it's pronounced WWAAAHHHKKIINNN

    it's spanish

    not, JAHQUEEN

  • I know Im really sorry Joaquin, I spelled it right though, so some points for that, I gotta practice, wah-keen...

  • You have an awsome hair cut. Phoenix owns!! and that interview was cool.

  • Wow.. its so great that you and this other clown in the video response took time out from splitting atoms to share your mind... sheesh.

  • Dude, the whole thing was a farce. Chill out.

  • i had to go ahead and sign in just to tell you how gay you are. omg gay get a life. jesus christ. fucking wierdo's in the world. ugh, GAY! boiling with hate. thats what im doing. how do you not see how pathatic this video is? UGH!! i have to stop typing because i need my whole body to hate you with

  • That's very touching, comparing with a lot of very mean comments..However, I think it's all an act & a very brilliant one, indeed. Look@how much Joaquin Phoenix's appearance that night has generated a lot of feed back. much more than any other appearances from any other entertainers. Look at the very end, JP got up, took off his shades & DL said "Good job". I think both of them, JP&DL had a good time & so did the (TV)audience as well. It's not just JP's weird but words coming fr.DL are weird, too

  • If I was JP I would have punched letterman in the face

  • That's probably only part of the reason you'll never be on a talk show other than Jerry Springer.

  • It has nothing to do with his looks or anything....it was that Dave schedule's a guy to advertise HIS movie and help him her HIS movie out there....and then he goes on there and acts like an amish guy...one word answers, like its the first time he has seen cameras and lights? What is Dave going to sit there and advertise for him while he sits there like a retarded 6 year old?

  • yeah it was either anxiety problems or he was soo coked up!

  • lol one weirdo to another

  • it's cool you respecting him and all, but i feel bad cuse this very well could be just a publicity stunt and if that is revealed you're gonna look like a major idiot

  • joaquin is pronounced "wah-keen" by the way, and i totally agree with you, if the interview was real. but i've heard that he's in the process of making a "borat-esque" movie, that portrays him, a movie star, transforming into a rap star. only what i've heard though, dont know if it's true.

  • Dude, he was doped up.

  • Nervous Anxiety Disorder! Ha! Morelike, fantastic actor disorder.

  • JP is on Drugs!.. and i bet this guy doint this video is on drugs to! Anxiety from to much drug use. i should know! iv been down that road i know what it looks like! and JP is walking that line!

  • this was a strange post, i like it when he starts compairing himself having the same anxiety?????? anyways, think about it, JP is a normal guy..... normally !Where the heck is his public rep? you dont think he sees a change in him and advises him not to go on.......this is a hoax, i read that he is actually shooting a film at this moment and his role is Rick Ruben.......... dono but

  • Zemper... are you retarded? This is a gimmick.

  • Notice how people show respect and give adulations to Joaquin, UNTIL he decides to grow his hair and beard and perform hip hop music. Now people have a license to ridicule him, because they feel that he no longer "fits in"? Why can't he do what he wants to? If a person doesn't fit into a mold, does that make them a joke? A non-entity? People need to stop conforming, and just be themselves. It takes courage to live your own life.

  • It's an act, he obviously pulled the wool over many people's eyes.

  • You do know that hes just fucked up on drugs.

  • dude seriously shut the hell up. u r suck a freakin loser ill poke jokes at u under the table. wat the hell is wrong with u

  • your a little bitch. suck my dick while i hold back your hair for you!

  • Nervous Anxiety Disorder??

More like he was high as shit.

  • Thank you for posting this video. It shows sensitivity that unfortunately seems rare in people.

    A. If it was all a hoax done with Casey Affleck, then props for great acting.

    B. If it's not a hoax then it's a lot of people taking a shortcut to thinking in assuming that Joaquin was simply high or drunk when something far more deeper may have been happening.

How about we all stop judging and start opening our eyes?

  • You're just as bad as he is. Smoke more weed man, seriously, smoke more weed.

  • wow for real, shut the fuck up.

  • mad respect.

  • Dude, what Hemp are you on? Just when I thought Wack-Keem Phoenix was the biggest wastoid on Earth, you come along! Just an Act? Don't know...I sure hope so! Doesn't seem to be his style, lets watch!

  • i´ts an act he and Casey Affleck is shooting a mockumentary.

  • go hug a tree

  • that was a hoax i hope you know

  • have you ever heard of andy kaufman??

  • hell ya, you think thats what this was?

  • Andy Kaufman had some issues too, that was also a response to how crazy hollywood and celebrity gets. After all they are just people, people that can put on a good show, but still just people. A good example of someone who rides off of this kind of attention from bizzar antics is Richard Simmons, watch some of his stuff. He wins the crazy award, but i think he knows it.

  • hell yeah letterman is a alien snake thing like the royals

  • your rite ol cunt!

  • Do you score your smack in the same hood as Joaquin? lol

Note: he did one good film the rest are mediocre at best!

  • Nice video, good comments. J did seem to be taking huge breaths during the interview,to calm himself down. His manager or "people" shouldn't have let go on in that state.

  • somone has psych 101 syndrome......its all an act and the rap career is part of a new project, that is why he says he is done with acting but cannot give a clear reason why.

  • you rock zemper i have an axiety disorder aswell so fuck letterman and all those hollywood fuckos

  • hell ya bro, keep it real for real

  • ur a nice guy for saying that =) in a way its true.

  • r u okay? you seem to be depressed or something?

  • are u commenting on the wrong video ?

  • dude, you are really gay for phoenix aren't you?

  • Fuck yea!!!

  • This guy has got to get out of the apartment!!

  • i agree 100% with you zemper. the other assholes who commented don't know how to tell when someone is being sincere like joaquin.

  • Joaquin is an actor. Was he acting during the interview? Hes made an impact with his hijinks.

  • im scared......help me.....please.....

  • Go hug a tree and cry me a RIVER!!!

  • this guy is more awkward than joaquin

  • agreed..

  • LOL!

    very true rofl

  • it was part an act part real, thats why this guy is such a cool guy, cus he is who he is, very self aware. i hope he comes out with some really good music and shows everyone off, talent aint about being who people what you to be, but about being who you are and trying your best.

  • I heard that he was but the mockumentary is probably going to deal with how he truly feels about all the fake hollywood stuff. This is probably closer to how he really feels than any other portrayal youve ever seen, you cant fake that kind of emotion, and Im sure the documentary will probably be in the same tone, and if its not either way I would have sympathy for someone in that situation if it is indeed real, if not I guess great performance Joaquin, you fooled me

  • im pretty sure he can fake that emotion, he an actor for god sakes and one the best out there, you must be really gullable if you think that was part real.

  • hmmm since when exactly did joaquin become one of 'the best' actors? in what context r u using this evaluation?

  • name one bad movie of his... enough said

  • Can't wait for some more stuff to get posted on youtube about it. Good Response!

  • Comment removed

  • whoa whoa whoa wait a minute LOL, u must be out of your mind stupid, you know that was all an act right? hes doing a "mockumentary" with casey affleck and thats going to be in the interview, notice at the end of the interview he takes of his glasses and smiles and letterman. also notice he takes the gum off from under the desk before the movie clip.. you really cant be that clueless can you?
