These kind of 'touching' songs are just touching, if you sing it decently. You do not have to sing them as great as freddy did, to give you the shivers. It's not actually the voice that does that in alot of cases. People often hear someone sing and think:" This voice gives me the shivers", while it's actually the 'melody/harmonie' that gives them the shivers. Take classical music for instance. There is no voice, yet it can give you the shivers. And of course, there are the lyrics....so yeah
