I think you should of left the candle in the can. It would be insulated so the can wouldn't burn you and it would make it very handy to carry around and to set down. I would boil the meat for sure right in the can if I had to and just drain the water off. Where would the can come from? Would you already have it with you? I just don't see many cans in the woods where I'm from.
My question is would that have not been easier to boil that meat and let the fat rise then scoop it when its cooled? Way less than 6 hours and in a survival situation you would not likely have a oven only a way to boil water. None the less very cool experiment and thanks for sharing!
I don't seem to be able to find any instances of people in LA hunting after Katrina, looting, rioting, waiting for FEMA, but no hunting...hmmm... do you think that could mean that the majority of urban dwellers do not know how to hunt?
ok maybe you could find a bee hive and use its wax....but get real dude if its survival mode your gona eat every ounce of that meat including the fat and prob even boil the bones for marrow...
@TheClownCentral I disagree with you. If I've just taken a Moose, Bear, Elk, Deer or other large animal there is going to be a ton of meat and a lot of fat. There are lots of priorities in a survival situation with hunger being just one of them. I live in the Rocky Mountains and there is an abundance of wildlife here, it wouldn't be far fetched at all to expect to take one of those large animals. I appreciate your comment - I just have a different opinion based on the environment I live in.
@phil801 Ok sure there is an abundance of wildlife right now and do you know why? Because only 1 percent of our population hunt game. In survival mode after all processed foods are consumed, all living creatures would be extinct in just a few months. lol but that’s my theory

@TheClownCentral I fully respect your opinion but still disagree :) I believe it is probably a circumstance of environment. From my house I can be in the Wasatch Mountains and if I so desired, I could literally walk all the way to Canada from those mountains. The game is extremely plentiful and the area is not densely populated - and we have a lot more than 1% of our population hunting. I have no idea where you're at, but I'm sure your assessment of your environment is accurate!
That was cool, for an experiment that turned out really well. Hmmmm.....now you got me to thinking...........LOL. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing. Take Care :-))
@SurviveN2 Thanks man, I was pretty happy that it turned out so well! Mostly I was happy that I was able to find a way to make a candle with materials I can expect to find in a natural environment.

@phil801
While you are out there living on wild animals be aware that they harbor worms and parasites like trichinosis in their muscles and other tissues.
That means NO rare meat. Always wear gloves, and don't eat organ meats, especially liver which can give you vitamin A poisoning.
