Why is the ref calling a penalty for lifting a stick? What really bugs me is seeing these guys who fall down then look around for the ref, rather than battle for the puck. Its embarassing, and its ruining hockey.

I live in Vancouver,and believe me, I have seen it. Bettman is trying to sell hand warmers to Arabs. Hamiilton, Winnipeg and even Quebec City would sell out every game, but where is he looking ? LAS VEGAS! That hotbed of hockey. Look for the worst ice in the NHL after Dallas and Anaheim

@berezin99 Totally agree! It's hard to get emotionally involved in the NHL compared to these days. I'm not even from Alberta but when I watched these games as a kid, I would get so involved. Maybe it's because I am older now, but I still think the rivalries were way more intense. The players now tend to be buddies with each other in a way they never used to be. That's just my take on it. Well not quite...As an American I love "old-school" hockey that we had seen throughout the 80's, and into the early 90's.

As a die-hard fan of the Red Wings I certainly do miss having some guys on the bench who can defend themselves (as well as defending a teammate) instead of hoping the refs/linesmen stepping in to save them.
