Unless that knife is Differentially tempered or hardened, which I doubt it is given that it flexes so well (Meaning it is TH), it is hardened all the way through.
@79outlaw Shows what can be done when a steel is made to perform to the peak of its abilities, rather than used to be cheaper. 440C is highly underrated. It was the first "super steel"
Outstanding blade! I was impressed by your tests and comprehensive review. Thanks for sharing. You've sold me on what would otherwise be an uninteresting knife for me (because of the steel).
No idea. I mean most places are fine accepting my card (cheaperthandirt,cabelas,budk,walmart,ammunitiontogo,sportsmanguide...ect) But some sites just don't like my card for some reason.
Ya Can't wait to get it,Me you and jeff would be the only 3 on youtube with videos of them and we all have a different model so That's good
I keep seeing knives I want all the videos of them on youtube I am going to be broke I got a Cold steel Recon 1,and Scrap yard Son of dogfather now I need an Entrek and Rat RC4.
I am sure it can, didnt try, but I highly doubt it would be a problem. Although it is thick, I think the forester would do better for pie cutting :P lol
alright i really love the desing of the survivor but ii want to know if its a good knife for like chopping, batoning, and a good utility blade. cant wait till i have enough to get mine
the patoning convinced me for sure but not so much about the chopping idk if it was cause of the fast forwardingbut now i do see how much damage your doing while chopping.. well thanks...again cant wait till i get mine
They are great knives, and different models will be better at different things. It is a good chopper, but obviously a knife like the destroyer would be a better chopper with its weighted tip.
wow you were right about it being above the regular 440C thats amazing stuff. I would like to see how easy it is to make wood shavings with the edge it has. I Have a maxam knife with the same blade steel and it keeps in similar condition but fails in sharpness at the end of batonning
Yea even with a fresh sharp carbon steel morra knife i have a hard time making feather sticks. Still don't know which dirrection to slice: into the grain or against
To be totally honest, after my testings, and not being biased remember I paid for my first ones and don't really make a profit selling the knives, I think it compares more with D2 but tougher, I couldn't chop into a steel bar with D2, but edge retention wise I think it is on par with my D2 knives.
Not trying to blow smoke or sell knives, they are just that good with the heat treating and sub zero quench they use.
Watch the other testing videos with the flex test and the steel bar chopping. You will see why I am so impressed. I think that their 440C makes a great survival blade, yea it may be harder to sharpen, but that is why they make those little pocket sharpeners and miniture stones.
I always found D2's edge retention to be phenomenal but it was way too brittle to be used for the outdoors. glad to hear this, i'll be keeping entrek in mind! :)
I have found it a little brittle, but I think that people underrate it and say it is more brittle than it is. The brittleness comes down to manufactures not knowing how to heat treat it properly to the right HRC.
Depends on who you ask. Some people say no, some say yes.
TK Magazine did an article entitled "Tactical Customs at the Oregon Knife Collectors Show" where they featured the Ranger MKII - "There are some knives that just shout "this is what I want to have by my side when I'm up to my knees in empty magazines and grenade pins."
So, TK magazine says they are, I would say they are semi custom.
Entrek - Replace or fix no matter what you do period, forever, even if you where stupid
Cold Steel - They stand behind their knives 100%, that is why have only 5 years on fixed blades, and foldings for one year, only against defects in materials or workmanship.
SOG - against defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the original purchaser. voided by misuse, abuse, improper maintenance, or alterations of the product (anything but cutting/puncturing)
Awesome man, thanks for the sub, I am glad that you liked the new Entrek! Stay tuned for the new Badger review, and be sure to watch the further testing of the Survivor that I did (dont miss me whacking at a steel bar and flex testing in a vice!)
440C looks like its a pretty well blanced steel some stain resistance nice edge retention. Corse that could just be from the shape and gind of the knife but I am pretty impressed.
440C is a very prooven and balanced steel. However, the great edge retention on the Entreks is better than most 440C, and that comes from the sub zero quenching that Entrek USA does.
Most 440C does not perform this well, testing continued in the videos I am uploading now.
I talk about that in the description, heat treated then sub zero quenched, which is why the edge holds up so well. (very expensive to sub zero quench)
I would love to give it a try, but the knife rules in GBUK would seriously hinder the list of blades to show, I have chosen the best "second" option and that is to have the best Vid Provider / s on knives etc Subscribed to, and lots of play lists to watch over and again eh! I always say in my play lists, please give sub, rate and comment to originator of vid for their hard efforts type of thing. Publishers such as you deserve the recognition.
I was just waiting for a comment like this one! LOL looks like I didnt have to wait for long! (Thats why I put the "I get the feeling that you are starting to want an Entrek as well!" in the description area!)
If you dont like the design, all their knives are heat and quenched the same, so all designs should preform relatively the same way, of course with the non tanto perfoming a little less well on the tip strength, tantos just have a stronger tip because of the design.
Great Video Bear, i like seeing people putting items to real tests., looks like a awesome knive, withstood all your test brilliantly, looks like a beauty too.
It certainly did withstand my tests, which I think are pretty realistic tests for a knife in a survival/utility need. I love the looks, and this is coming from a person not a fan of the tanto point.
I, however, am anxious to see (if he can get it) how it performs to Noss's tests, as he is much more in depth. Regardless, I dont think it will change my opinion of the knife, even though I do think it will perform very well, I think it will perform great for the average user. Thanks man!
I am diggin that someone knows who they are. Originally the entire video was with P86 in the background segments, but the youtube nazis wouldnt let me cause of copyright and whatnot, (all the stuff from Truthless Heros Album wouldn't upload), so now it is how it is.
Took me three tries to get it uploaded! Was annoying considering how large the file was.
Certainly do! I think it would make a great Bug Out Knife, I certainly want them to make them in a high carbon alternate though, even better for striking flint or fero rods!
if my grandad saw you using a stone for a base ,he'd kick your ass ,,,,,,gee you love the knives you sell ,, go figure

Plus compare the warranties.
QuietBearr 2 years ago
I guess I just noticed that a lot of their knives are $200-$300.
NeoLudditeDave 2 years ago
A lot of their larger knives are, but dude, you have to compare knives with what they can compare to, either custom or production:
Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri (SK-5 High Carbon) - 300
Entrek USA Destroyer - 300 (and I guarentee that it will beat the pants of the CS)
Cold Steel Black Bear Classic - 490
Entrek USA Sub-hilt Silhouette - 300 (again, beats the pants of CS)
SOG Daggert 2 - 175
Entrek USA COMMANDO MKII - 150 (and totally blows it out of the water, better steel especially)
See?
QuietBearr 2 years ago
Nice knives, but the Entreks are crazy expensive.
NeoLudditeDave 2 years ago
Not really compared to most custom knives

If you think a hammer is nuts, you may wana close your eyes for the new ones!
Thanks man, but I agree, I would never use a hammer on a knife in real life situation, but I do think a knife should be built to withstand it!
