I actually have been hurt by quotas, affirmative action(?), etc. It was perhaps tolerable (I ,at least tolerated it, right or wrong) for the first 10 years of my work life, but it has been a discriminatory force in my life for the last 25 years.

judging from your eyes and light skin and hair color, i wouldn't call you african-american exclusively. you obviously have a lot of white in you too. i think we need to get over calling people black if they have any black in them (ie: obama). people can intermix, that's what defines a species. everyone needs to be treated equal; for better or worse.
People are so hard-driven on extremes. It's much easier to say that "blacks act this way" and "whites act this way" than it is to see people as individuals. And I just never got the discrimination thing. I'm white, male, and grew up in the generation that was taught that racism and sexism is bad. And more than anything now I experience moments where I'm meant to "feel bad" about being white because of American history.

But there IS alot of reverse discrimination in America. I do hope that a number of younger black americans take notice of how this poor woman feels to understand that yes... it DOES suck being falsely referred to as a racist. This happens alot.
I think these days racial tensions are higher and far worse than it was 50 some years ago, its safe to assumed that discrimination takes on many forms, I mean its even a textbook subject on wiki, even though wiki is not a reliable source of information but you cant help but noticed how people in general are using the race card for their own selfish means and advantage. I have to say that I think that all races have hard working peoples and lazy peoples. All races. I agree with equal rights. But I don't believe in giving special rights to minorities because they are a minority. This takes away from everyone. As of late, it takes away a lot from white males. It's also funny how i have a white friend and a black friend that both attend U of I in urbana champaign. They are from the same town and have the same major. They r good friends... They both went to the same schools their entire life. Except my white friend who has a 4.0 gpa lost his scholarship this yr... and our black friend with a 3.0 kept his... neither scholarship is financially based. One of the greatest things i can say about a family mem, friend, white or black is "das ma nigga" it expresses a certain level of kinship or a bond. I lived in Brazil, everyone I knew, even the "whitest" looking people had a little African heritage. I'm not trying to say that racism doesn't exist in Brazil, but I noticed that color terms that they use are different from ours. For example, I, a tall, white part-Italian, part-Irish guy, was called "negao" (sounds like: nay-GOWN) all the time, even though the literal translation to English is "Big Black Dude". Any goodlooking woman is referred to as a "nega", no matter how blond she may be!
I have worked in a hotel that had a large African workforce and I attend a community college with a diverse population. What has surprised me was that I experienced a total lack of racial tension from non-Americans. Yet I am way too familiar with the racial slurs that I hear white & black Americans fling at eachother. Anyway, it is refreshing to have experienced cultures that don't obsess about race.

Well alot of blacks are very religious so I think that is where it comes from but I for one am against it. I actually have been hurt by quotas, affirmative action(?), etc. It was perhaps tolerable (I ,at least tolerated it, right or wrong) for the first 10 years of my work life, but it has been a discriminatory force in my life for the last 25 years.
Discrimination has been a hurtful force, redistributing income and breaking dreams. Families are involved...innocent children.

People are so hard-driven on extremes. It's much easier to say that "blacks act this way" and "whites act this way" than it is to see people as individuals. And I just never got the discrimination thing. I'm white, male, and grew up in the generation that was taught that racism and sexism is bad. And more than anything now I experience moments where I'm meant to "feel bad" about being white because of American history.

Very insightful! One of my life goals is working to eliminate poverty traps. White and hispanic poverty traps I think are solvable, but black poverty traps are insanely terrifying, since a few black leaders keep sustaining them.
Black men and women like you make all the difference. In the end, there is only so much someone like me can do, being white, against enemies like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. You, however, will do immense good simply by being who you are, proving them wrong.

But there IS alot of reverse discrimination in America. this video brings up a good point...discrimination goes in every direction and you have a valid point to when you say that often races put boundaries upon themselves as in what they can listen to, wear, how they talk, etc. oh and about the word 'nigga'. a lot of words and terms in society that were once bad were actually used by the minority group and given a different connotation. for instance...chicano was once a highly derogatory word...now people sometimes use it to describe mex-americans...

I have to say that I think that all races have hard working peoples and lazy peoples. All races. I agree with equal rights. But I don't believe in giving special rights to minorities because they are a minority. This takes away from everyone. As of late, it takes away a lot from white males. I have fallen victim to this a few key times and I don't like nor support minority "rights". Merit is no longer a subject, it is just race. IMO

It's also funny how i have a white friend and a black friend that both attend U of I in urbana champaign. They are from the same town and have the same major. They r good friends... They both went to the same schools their entire life. Except my white friend who has a 4.0 gpa lost his scholarship this yr... and our black friend with a 3.0 kept his... neither scholarship is financially based. One of the greatest things i can say about a family mem, friend, white or black is "das ma nigga" it expresses a certain level of kinship or a bond. I lived in Brazil, everyone I knew, even the "whitest" looking people had a little African heritage. I'm not trying to say that racism doesn't exist in Brazil, but I noticed that color terms that they use are different from ours. For example, I, a tall, white part-Italian, part-Irish guy, was called "negao" (sounds like: nay-GOWN) all the time, even though the literal translation to English is "Big Black Dude". I have worked in a hotel that had a large African workforce and I attend a community college with a diverse population. What has surprised me was that I experienced a total lack of racial tension from non-Americans. Yet I am way too familiar with the racial slurs that I hear white & black Americans fling at eachother. Anyway, it is refreshing to have experienced cultures that don't obsess about race.

Well, technically yes. It's called null copula. In linguistic terms, it means that the adjective "stupid" is actually a type of "static verb". This is common in BVE (Ebonics) grammar. In order to kno sum shyt lik that u would have to kno ALL languages and every word in each language. Honestly i wouldnt even call english a language because it jus made up of words that hav been cut & pasted from other languages. Think of a painting, u cant copy sections of multiple great masterpieces, put it in your painting and then call yours a masterpiece

yea it's really sad. People keep saying the sanctity of marriage the proper union of a man and a woman....the sancity is gone. Over 50% of them end, alot of them aren't out of love anymore and the whole thing is just tainted. If Mary & Bob can get married in a freakin casino in Vegas & then divorce the week after when they get over their hangover why cant Joe & Bob get married, the logic behind prob 8 is very unsound.

Well alot of blacks are very religious so I think that is where it comes from but I for one am against it. Like as african american's we know or our parents & grandparents know what its like to not have opurtunities just because of something you were born with. I doubt gay people say....you know what I think I am going to go gay. Like I'm Christian and I'm not going to say that i'm thriled about the idea but at the same time I know i shouldn't be the one making the choice.

I don't know if I agree with that, you need to understand that the bible was man written an translated thousands of times and just a book in english class up to interpatation, thats why there is so many variations of Christianity, because they all have diffrent ideas on what it means. I do think that people will manipulate people with the religion but I don't think thats the fault of the bible its the fault of humanity.

I agree with that,Bush is a great exampe...he say hes a good christian but then he starts an unjust war killing thousands of people...thats an extreme case but still people say they are Christian but they distort it to what they want christanity to mean and then turn around and say its what in the bible when in reality its not. Or when someone says you cant do something its a sin and it might not be anywhere in the bible but they use it as a tool of manipulation. Jesus is real but religion isn't

Chris ,I agree with you on the first part , but in my studies the Jesus of the bible may not be real. I grew up in Cocoa Beach Fl to a Scientist for a father and learned to research every thing before I decicided anything. I do however respct your wish to believe in any faith you chose. especially being that you are so darn polite.

I'm actually really into science myself but I guess the topic of Jesus is left to faith because it canty be 100% prove by science nor 100% disproven but at the same time I realize that its my personal choice not my choice to make for everyone elses. And even if I ddi know with out a doubt that my religious views are true their is nothing in my faith that says judge people for not following what I do.I think people need to learn to let people live as the choose espically if it wont hurt them

well when you really think about it most religions are explaning the unexplanble...little kids believe in Santa because there are gifts under three tree the logical explanation is their parents put them there. But in things like how we came on this Earth, why we are hear, where we go after we die thats something that has yet to be proven and you can look at it through a spiritual or scientefic point of view but nether one can be proven and nether explanation is more logical than the other.

Here is my Point, if I have zero evidnce in a higher being wether it be the great JU JU on the mount or Woton the viking god ,or Zeus or Apollo, and the hundreds of other gods. None have any proff ,,not even bad proof. There is no evidence of miricles, have you ever seen a limb grow back? When any evidence comes to pass I promise I will be the first to say I may be very wrong.

I really think that we as americans need to steop fighting over trivial things, Joe & Bob being married or Joe & Bob living with each other is the basically the same thing but now they are given the same opurtunities. I don't think its races thing but I think the fact that a large amount of blacks are so religious is why they are for proposition 8, but it doesn't make it right, its not their life, it's not their children, who are they to say who can't get married just because of their values.

thanks for this video. im very open minded & live in a very liberal city. i live in boystown in chicago (gay neighborhood) and everyone is VERY accepting but nothing makes me more uncomfortable than when a black man or woman calls me a white girl or a cracker. i understand they may have 2 deal w/ racism but im a firm believer in treat people how you want to be treated, & this isnt about EVERY1 but i just hate that bc im white, i'll be considered to be a racist. i dunno, thats my own opinion

Thank you. I live in the heart of racism, Montgomery Alabama, but the roles have reversed. You and me are like minded. I can't stand racism on either side. I'm just trying to live my life, but here's an example of what I go through, and yes it REALLY happened, and it's stupid: I walk out my front door going to my car in my flipflops and 200 feet away from across the street I hear, "Look at that whiteboy. His foot stank!" Why? And I get that if anywhere I go here. We've got to let all of this go.

I've noticed that alot of blacks think that its owed to them to be able to talk about whites because of everything they've gone through but it doesn't work like that, plus if you keept that type of logic going it will be a never ending cycle of one race treating the other poorly, I know that there are still whites that are racist but there are always going to be racist people but its no reason to treat an entire race badly because of a few bad people.

I for one have to go thru reverse discrimination everyday because I go to an almost all black school and I'm a white kid and I feel that if you feel uncomfortable in any way because of what you are and what color skin you have then you're not in America and I think it is unamerican for things like that to currently go on. I proposed to my school that they have manditory anti-racism courses for all children starting in elemantary school to get kids educated about
