  • and this is why I play viola......

  • favorite instrument i prefer my 2007 strobel to my 2010 schecter any day

  • musica muy hermosa!!!, definitivamente.. el regeeton es un asco al lado de esta musica tan hermosa

  • The viola is by far the best instrument ever!!!!

  • O.o... wow.. i had no idea the viola was capable of such depth...

  • i really love this. my mom used to play viola so beautifully like this, but problems with her hands made her stop :(

  • is the coughing part of the piece?

  • A piece that truly brings out the strengths of the viola over the violin. Beautifully played. While the viola lacks the violin's sensitivity and nuances, it more than compensates in richness and depth.

  • i could never use my bow to that extent it has dead spots near the ends):

  • This is so beautiful! Brava!

I play the cello, although I'm not quite enjoying as much as I used to - I'd love to switch to the viola, it has such a rich sound.

The violin is too happy for me, if that makes any sense whatsoever. But I really love the sound of the viola.

  • @thekillers274 Same with me and my teacher i cant stand the happiness of the violin its too light but the cello was too dull the viola is the middle mark and has the rich sound of both together and is a very unknown instrument to the public

  • Sometimes coughing cannot be helped... (though other times it can...)

Let's not let it detract from our enjoyment of the music, however.

  • Always, always, always. Every single performance! There's either a hacking dude or a baby wailing! Where's the respect?

  • what is the exact name of this song you're playing? and by the way, its really good

  • speechless........that was certainly one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. don't ever stop playing the viola.

  • Wow I think ur amazing!! I don't think I'll ever play viola as well as you do!! I love the way you connect with the music like u follow the flow (if that makes any sense) =] amazing

  • Dear Olga Your playing is ethereal! I tried wikipidia to read about you but unfortunately your bio was'nt there.

  • great emotion with this piece...brava!

  • quem foi essa imbecil que tossiu no meio da apresentacao!!??!?!!?

    FAIL!!!

  • beautiful!

  • whats the name of this song?

  • @FERViolin2010 Look at the description you moron.

  • @zoranrosendahl bitch viola do not have alot of songs a tends to steel them from violin and cello i want the actual name so i can buy the damm sheet music, and i play violin also so im already better than you other violist out there

  • @FERViolin2010 Well, you can say all this, but if the song is arranged for viola, the titel is still the same :p

  • @FERViolin2010 Excuse me? I am a violinist myself, and I have to inform you, viola is HARDER.

  • @GothicalSOberhauser Woot Woot :) I play the viola. :D

  • @missme2much2468 YAY! :D I'm a violist also :)

  • @GothicalSOberhauser I play the viola too! (:

  • @violaz101 YAY! More violists! :D

  • @FERViolin2010 hater

  • y u keep choughing

  • This is Adagio from G minor Sonata for violin solo by Bach (not Grave)

  • I love hear you playing!

  • What A hole would cough, right?

  • what kind of viola is that and bow?

  • She has a nice tone but she always plays like a pedantic schoolgirl who did her homework with the metronome. If she could only use her imagination. This is beauty to be created and you don't have to look so serious but try to enjoy yourself. Should be apparent that playing is a source of pleasure not only delivering a bunch of notes. Please spare me "if you play it better" crap because I do. I think her frequent appearance here is not justified by her merits. She's good but a bit soulless to me.

  • @lekmioas I would like to listen to your playing then... Why don`t you post some videos?

  • @carvindc400 Don't worry, I will. Just remember, a critic at a newspaper for example obviously can not play better the interpretation they write about yet nobody questions their right to write, so to speak. In an ideal world everybody has the right to air opinios, be it condemning or praising. What's the point of having the option to post comments here if they're all supposed to be complimentory? I for one disagree with the 'say nothing if you don't have something nice to say" saying.

  • @lekmioas I'm waiting, but I doubt you will post anything. Well, nobody is putting a gun against your head and keeping you from commenting here. I also have the right of replying to your comments, and stating that the one who criticizes should do better. That's just my opinion, as valuable as yours...

  • @lekmioas Classical music has known to be somewhat limited and restrictive. She is playing whatever was written on the music sheets. How do you know she isn't feeling it? Just because she looks like she isn't doesn't mean so.

  • @lekmioas I'm not sure what kind of expressions you're looking for, but I see quite a bit of emotion in her performance. Watch her eyebrows, man. Watch her mouth.

  • @lekmioas dont listen with your ears, listen with your heart. I almost cried at the beauty of her playing.

  • @ChocolateLuver426 I did cry.

  • lastima tanta reververacion...

  • wooaah i play viola 2 for about 8 months already and i love dat instrument and now i'm good at it :)

  • I play the Viola!!

And I really thing she is really good!!

  • enough with the coughing shxt

  • it's Adagio, not Grave

  • Violin is better!!! She's totally succed playing this part!

  • @stomentendo

perhaps her interpretation of it is more grave than adagio... i think so, 'grave' suits the colour of the piece.

  • @damiaen92 it's still Adagio

  • I think the viola is more majestic and powerful than the violin. I prefer the lower tones than the highness of the violin.

  • @violinistx100 VIolin has a role that violas cannot portray.

  • @violinistx100 well said man... well said

  • Very beautiful sound!! its amazing how she can make it sound so good!! I can play the viola 2 it is a very beautiful instrument

  • whats the name of this song?

  • Alors, pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas l'alto, si si c'est possible de faire des nuances avec....

  • Lol someone laughed in the middle of it.

I hope i can play like her even though ive only been playing for a short time...

@edguyrocks: It depends on where you live i guess... but i have to agree with WatcherofTrends.... You have to use your ears.

  • Can someone point me in the direction of where to find/purchase a good viola? Best tone for the buck? Thanks in advance.

  • Stentor?

  • To be honest, you're going to have to put a bit of work into finding the perfect instrument at the right price. Don't follow a brand name or popular maker. Only go by what you hear. Often times a newer maker will craft instruments that are just as good, if not better sounding than established luthiers. You can get them for cheaper, then, when they become better know, you can resell for higher. Price does not equal quality; USE YOUR EARS.

  • @edguyrocks i would suggest an andreas eastman

  • fishburn violin shop. they are the best but not the cheapest. depends where you live thats where i got mine. ( they sell all insterments ) (:

  • Comment removed

  • she's such a great viola player, I hope I can play like her eventually =)

  • I play the viola, and I absloutly love it! I personally find it an intriging instrument, because it can hit the higher notes and the somewhat suductive lower notes. It is such a lovely instrument, and I think its waay better then the violin! :) The violin is a little bit too sickly sweet for my taste.

  • haha!!I so agree with you.I am also a violist and viola is way better then a violin. We can actually play notes that people can hear and enjoy that arent to high.Weve got depth.GO VIOLAS AND THEIR PLAYAS!!!!<3

  • @PianoChick1231 you got that right, im a viola player and they are awesome :D

  • @ThanksfortheObvious wait, this is a viola, right? i mean, it's not a violin xD

    ... right?

  • @maxi36440529 lol XD yes, it's a viola.

  • love it also

  • beautiful trills.

  • Somebody needs Robitussin DM.

  • she's a nice viola player ;)

  • I have just switched from playing the violin for eight years to the viola for a bit of a change of pace, and it truly is a beautiful instrument. I agree that viola is relatively easy to pick up form playing the violin - I can play the viola fine now after a month. This piece is absolutely beautiful - I agree that viola is highly under appreciated, and I'm looking forward to playing more music on this wonderful instrument.

  • The viola is beautiful I just started playing it (I switched from violin to viola.)

I LOVE the deeper sound, the violin pierces my ears!

  • Cello is fun too. I have played cello. I should pick it up again . . .

  • I used to murder this piece. Strange to hear it played properly.

  • @moppettshow hahah

  • That's so cool! I also play the viola

    \

  • very nice!...love the viola!

  • Viola is harder to play then violin, while violin already has all the high notes, on a viola its harder to find, because of its more beautiful mellow tone

  • If you already know how to play violin, viola is relatively easy to pick up. If you're interested, I'd say go for it!

  • SHUT UP WITH THE COUGHING or get out of the room, you insensitive git!

  • @beckyberridge

lol it sounded like it might have been the camera operator

  • Wow. What a beautiful viola!

  • in september I'm starting with the violin, but I was not sure whether to learn viola or violin, but at my school they only teach violin so the choice was made for me =( but if I ever get the chance to learn to viola I'm going for it

  • I play clarinet and if I ever decide to take on a second isntrument im going with viola. ;-] that was beautiful

  • beautiful... and I suppose the music isn't bad either... =P jk, this is very nice, played very well.

  • viola is my favorite.... though underexplored... ;((

  • what type of viola is that?

  • nunca falta el hijueputa que toce, que arruina todo ¬¬

  • I've never heard Bach with such a pressing urge to kill the viola before. As Bernhard Michael Reichmann's said,

"Bach is German and what are the German's about but anger?" Brava...

  • Ok, so I just bought J.S. Bach's six sonatas and partitas arranged for viola, because I thought that was the book this solo would be in. However, not one of those solos in there is this piece!(or at least, none of them start out like her's does). Can someone tell me if I got the wrong book? If so, which book does this piece come in? I want to play this one for my junior year in high school for solo and ensemble and I cannot find it anywhere!! Can someone help me?!?!

  • You have the right book. The video starts in the 10th bar (halfway through the first beat) of the adagio of the first sonata (BWV 1001).

  • Beautiful, like all the other Goija performances on YouTube!

  • VIOLAS ROCK!!!!!!! i love the viola i have been playing since i was 7 my dream is to be as A-M-A-Z-I-N-G as Goija!!!!!

  • Est-il permis de jouer aussi faux, en concert de surcroît ?

  • i just wish that lady would stop coughing... ruining the moment!!!!!!

  • im a cellist right now... but i want to play the viola so bad!!

  • wow! i never thought i would see or hear a cellist actually say that! viola rocks alright!

  • I am a violist, but I want to play the violin so bad lol

  • go right ahead...I play both...I started with Violin though and it took me about a week to learn since I took my viola out every day. I LOVE being able to play and keep up with both of the instruments just don't drop the viola completely since Orchestras need Violists and In my opinion Violins can be very competitive.

    - VIOLA POWER!!!!

  • Dont do violin...I just switched to viola...i play viola in youth orchestra and violin in adult...but my violin sounds horrible compared to the viola....please don do it...its not very kind to the ears

  • Wow i love this. I Play viola and i have to decide what piece by Bach I want to play... it's so hard. They are all so beautiful. She makes me want to play this suite. GO Golga...!

  • wow it sounds so awsome does anyone know where i cand find the music sheet for this song!!!!!!

    PLEEEAAAASSEEEE I REALLY WANT IT!!!!!!

  • i'm a violinist, about to turn violist, it's pieces like this that really make me want to make the transition!

  • aquairiq: Sorry if I misunderstood you, but are you aware that this was originally written for solo violin? Unless you are merely agreeing with me that it sounds better on viola =)

  • i play the violin but i have to admit that this piece likes me more whit viola .... the sound is so warmly.....

  • I love this vid. :)

I absolutely adore the sound of the viola, which is why I chose to play it.

Rofl, the coughing kind of killed it for me, but oh well.

  • Anytime someone even compares a violin to a viola, I am TOTALLY offended!! I hate it so much!! And yes I agree one hundred percent about that whole, "But arent they the same thing?" Its like, NO THEY ARE NOT!!! Ugh! I'm getting flustered about it right now!

  • Hahaha Yes I know what you mean!

You know, and in Spanish the direct translation for viola is rape (can also be to violate something but not how my family used it)... so when I first started playing my family called me the violator aka "la violadora."

Let's just say they don't do that anymore...

  • AHAHAHAHA!!! I was eating skittles and when I read that, I started choking on one!! That is so funny!! :DD Haha, the violator! That's hilarious! I'm never going to forget that one. That's one of those jokes you just never forget! Can you say, knee slapper?! :D

  • Damn that coughing woman!.....lol

  • I wish music was a little more focus on the viola part. All we get is the background all the time. This is so beautiful, it's such an inspiration to listen to this.

  • Whats with the coughing? They cough in almost every single one of her videos.

  • I hate how people think the violin and viola are the same thing! Violas are always forgotten even though they also sound so beautiful! I play the viloa at school and will also in hight school!

  • Ur such an inspiration Olga :)

    woot go viola

  • Oh how i would love to see you play live! :)

  • You're truly my idol--I'd love to have a masterclass with you, there's so much that you could teach me.

  • Wow! Very smooth. Love the ending, nice dynamics. Makes us appreciate the viola. Thank you!

  • violas are very amazing, i play one myself. I think they are looked over very much and should have more appreciation. When I tell people i play the viola they are like, viola? what is that? The girl in this video really shows what a viola can do.

  • I play viola and am proud of it (although I can also play violin). I believe that we viola players are much unappreciated, ESPECIALLY since we were the first member of the "violin" (hem, hem) family. Bravo for this video!!!

By the way, everyone go look up "Viola Poem" on Google - there is a poem talking about why viola is the greatest instrument of all time. And it's true. :-)

  • me: *carries case to class*

idiot: "why are you carrying your violin to class"

    me: "i play the viola"

idiot: "is that how they say violin in spanish" T_T i go through that alot also lol

  • yea same here. i bring my viola to school and here's what i usually get.

    girl: is that your violin?

    me: no. i play viola

    girl: no, that's a violin.

me: um no, it's not it's a VIOLA!

girl: no! there are 4 different types of violins in strings.

me: uh no there's cello, bass, viola nd violin

girl: but they're differnt types of violins

by then i just leave all pissed. my conductor notices us more now. weve been getting the melodies and she called the viola the "perfect intrument" VIOLAS

  • lmao four different type of violin...Epic i'd have laughed in her face...but that's good for u.. violas in our orchestra are still background ;( like this one violinst is trying me to come to this youth orchestra...they have NO violist i was like :o but we have to get more popular *determined* xD :P

  • Comment removed

  • Lol!!!! I know EXACTLY what you mean!!!! One time, somone asked me what instrument I played and I said viola. Then we both went through the same convorsation you described, and then in the end, they said "Oh, okay. But it's actually called V(eye)ola, right?" And I said, "No, it's vEEola." Then they said, "Well, it's pronounced either way." And I'm like, well, you didn't even know what a viola was until I told you, so don't tell ME how to pronounce it!!!!

  • haha I know what you mean. someone asked me why I was taking a guitar to school once and I was like "um this is a viola." and then I had to explain what a viola is

    people can be so ignorant

  • Hmm..

maybe viola and violin's a little bit similar for amateur...

    I plays violin,

    but I love viola's voice too :)

My school orchestra can't stand without our violas player :)

  • I know.. its so annoying! my orchestra teacher kind of overlooks the violas too. The teachers seem to always focus on the violins. I am taking violin private classes this year, but I'm still going to play viola.

  • unffortunatley, teachers are kind of forced to pay more attention to violins, (curse those violins...) seeing as almost all orchestral music is written around the violin, for some unknown reason... personally i hate it, but it also makes violas some of the highest payed orchestral players since there are so few of us... and if you havent figured it out, I play the viola also. And as a side note, I get the whole violin and violas are the same thing, even in highschool...

  • I'm a violin player, who hated how mundane the viola was. Until I actually picked up one, I didn't appreciate it. It has such a great low sound. If it weren't for the the nasty alto clef I would actually play it.

This song just really shows how beautiful a viola can be in the right hands (:

  • the alto clef is actually really easy i think, it only took me two weeks me two weeks to get it to a side reading level.

  • where can I get the sheet music for this? I must practice and mater this!

Also Viola is awesome and unappreciated.

  • very much agreed

  • You're doing very well!

  • i need to start playing again. :] wow. amazing

  • wow i wish i could play my viola as well as you do and nice vibrato mine is kind of shaky lol

  • i love this im no where as good as her yet so im going to keep working on that

  • wow you are amazing

  • I'm no expert but I'd be prepared to bet that that instrument is a viola, not a violin!

    Any takers?

  • Well, it is a viola. What brought this up, though?

  • doing the vibration thigy is really hard..

    sigh

  • enjoyable - but not really a pro-performance

  • I just don't find real depth, understanding, layers and artistic profoundness in her playing. These are the greatest masterpieces we are dealing with here and they are not meant to be played so you can set the metronome to them. Where is freedom and originality? Bach backfires when performed by eminent schoolgirls.

  • lol - nice

  • Comment removed

  • xXAltoGirlXx u should start. it is really fun and its just another viola player out there to prove we are more than the "big violin"

  • I think ur right

  • im thinking of starting viola...thoughts??

  • somebody smack the person coughing and sniffling for me.

  • *WHACK!!!* THERE YOU GO LOL!!! FreeCapital

  • I love the viola. I play it at my high school, I hope to get this good. hehe

  • That is to keep the sound ringing and to make it resonate better. The sound still continues after the bow is lifted. If you watch a concert, watch the cellos. They might do it for 20 seconds "after" the note. It might bother you now, but when you get better, you notice soluble differences like that and appreciate it better. Keep up the playing! Another viola, another nice instrument!

  • are you talking about the trills or the 32 secound notes

  • I play the viola, and this is very well played. The coughing person in the background is very annoying though.

  • i play the viola too and the coughing person is annoying

  • The strings still vibrate, even after the bow is lifted off. It just makes the 'end' of the sound more beautiful... and doesn't cut it off.

  • An amazing performance.

  • wow. that was mesmerizing!

  • anyway I admire Russian musicians as many of them have an oustanding musicality

  • Intonation isnt good? You shmuck, its in a different KEY.

LOL. and theres no imaginable way to play this in anyother way than whats provided. aand musica da camera just means chamber music you idiot. and in chamber music; music was played for its own sake & pleasure.

    great viola playing.

  • I don't want to be as rude (and wrong with his silly 'key' comment)as our friend ervin, but I do largely disagree. It's a very full and sonorous sound, much lower in pitch than a trumpet, and while her intonation isn't spot-on, it's pretty good in this very hard piece (the Sarabande from the 2nd. Partita for solo violin). Of course you can play in authentic style and that is very rewarding (Rachel Podger, for example), but I think Olga Goija does well here, and she gives me a lot of pleasure.

  • fuck at 1:08!!!!!

  • ack I know!!!! -_-. Stinking coughing person.

  • WHAT A GROSS!!!! god

  • Goija and the viola get in an spiritual music relashionship, that is what its make a real viola player.

  • Excelente violista!...

    Felicitaciones,!

yo soy estudiante de viola y quiero ser

    una gran violista!!!

  • Tambieen soy estudiante de violaa.!! me encantaa.!! Buenoo. cada dia quiero ser mejor

  • Yes viola is SOO much better. Has a beautiful deep low string. Violin has a high squeaky one. I am a viola player and I know a violin player. How can they live with a violin. SO LOUD!

  • violin is over rated. The viola has such a rich, unique sound. Absolutely beautiful. People don't realise it has such qualities.

  • Agreed, I used to play the viola, until I finally realised I'm no good at the strings, but I love it!
