That is what happens when you think that you are the best and such a country like little Lithuania hit the shit out of americans, gave them a lesson and maybe lost the game, but earned all worlds respect and usa was a shame... welll but in 2004Lithuanians stil won againts them..
LTU always has a great team. The 2000 game was no joke. USA was lucky to win. Since 2004, the USA has gotten more used to FIBA zones, and started understanding that international teams are good now. USA has beaten LTU every time, by double digits. USA teams that sucked lacked outside shooting and couldn't hit free throws. They've fixed that - USA now 49-1 since '06.
Lithuania seems like a cool country to me. Very impressive that a country that size can compete with the big boys, and demolish countries like China, who have over a billion people.

For example, this year Lithuania managed to win the bronze with like a B/C-ish team also, there were no Jasikevicius, Macijauskas, Siskauskas, Ilgauskas, Lavrinovic brothers, Kaukenas, Songaila... I mean it's ridiculous... And this shit happens every year, not just with Lithuania, but also with Serbia, Slovenia and few others of the best European teams. Basically, the only team that consistantly bring their best team is Spain - it's maybe the reason why they win so much.

If only rules wore different and if it would require that a loser of grand finals would play against the winner of loser final and if 2 teams never played against each other in a given tournament i think it would be a bit better cuz Lithuania never even had a chance to play against Turkey in WC2010. The team we had this year would have run over turkey we was definitely second best country in WC2010

@Mcwolfkiller I agree. LTU was playing great, and could beat Turkey. Not the USA, but nobody has since '06. However, if the USA did not have Durant, the LTU game could have been VERY close.

@cr500rebuild it wasn't just Durant i think the reason why USA won was the defense that was something out of this world. I watched some games of USA team and they didn't look unbeatable really didn't but than they come out to play Lithuania I thing they wore playing their best game I mean they shut down Kleiza completely that alone is a huge deal I'm gonna quote a commentator who said "It's like they have faster processors installed just for this game".

@Nonadievis Great point. However, it is not population size that determines how good a country can be at a specific sport. It is a great developmental system with great Teachers & basketball academies that emphasize a system of Basketball that works on an international level. Those countries who are able to implement that concept to perfection will undoubtedly do well in any kind of international basketball competition. China has over a Billion people and they aren't good. It's about effort.
