Well, I guess this video explains why the Romans didn't develop fully articulated armor. Its just hard to mass produce and the Romans were more dependent on mass, fully trained infantry rather than often individualistic knights.
Funny, due to today's mechanized nature of warfare, all soldiers of today have a somewhat similar number of support personnel to help him (manufacturers of the guns, equipment, etc.) More so for combat pilots.
