  • I'm thinking to do this for becoming a dentist. I have an 87% average in highschool and will go to a good university and take a program on Dentistry (dental degrees), once finished I will apply for Dental College at the same university and then take the test! Sounds good?

  • Real interesting , I'm a 12 year old boy and my dream is to became a surgeon, but a dentist is also not bad.

  • Which is NOT BAD .

  • hey whats your number guy?

  • @limegreenqueen1996 M god, if you want to go to a 4 year college and dentist school, learn to speak properly first.

  • Holla! Have you thought about the intellitus cash system (search on google)? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my buddy made a ton of money with it.

  • @limegreenqueen1996 You need to seriously work on that grammar of yours. Not intelligent at all.

  • @123DROCK If you want to make big $ as a dentist, you should aim on becoming an oral maxillofacial surgeon. This means 4-6 additional years of residency, PLUS placing at top 5-10% of your dental school class. VERY competitive but the only dental specialty that I know of that has an average salary approaching half a million. But honestly, if you did a 6 yr OMFS residency for the $, you might as well have gone to medical school where the specialty salaries are all comparatively higher.

  • @123DROCK I'd say within 5 years of graduating, a 180K salary should be reasonable for a dentist who isn't living in California or New York (too many dentists/competition in big cities). But take that 180K salary, take away 40% for taxes, then lop off a chunk to pay back your student loans/small business loans/mortgage, and you will probably be living off of 40-60K. Comfortable life? Very. Ultra rich? Nope. BTW, orthodontists dont make big $ (anymore), avg salary = similar to a general dentist.

  • @123DROCK Yeah, there is quite alot of bogus information floating around about dentist salaries. You need to realize that there are huge discrepancies in salaries of dentists: young, new dentists are paid much less than established dentists who own their own practices. On top of this, dentists who own their own practices are really small business owners so their salary is quite dependent on how well they run their business.

  • no phone number....??

  • Dental school tuition in the US averages 250K-300K over 4 years, not counting the 7.8% fixed interest. Most dentists start at 90-100K/yr for thier first few years. If you take out taxes and loan repayment, you won't be taking home much. If you want to make more than that, you will probably need to own your own practice, and that will cost around 200-500K with 7% interest. You will probably never get rich practicing dentistry.

  • people who have had everything in their lives are the ones to say "if you do it for money you wont make it." but i think many of us do it for the money so our family can have a better live than what you had growing up. i think that for what ever reason you may have if its for money or just for the love of teeth you can make it as long as you try and always try to be better than the best and that will get you where ever you want. im doing it for the money and im not ashame.

  • If you get into it for the money, you will make it. :D

  • awesome video content dude

  • I appreciate the helpful video content, nice to meet you also

  • Does Orthodontist make more?

  • become an ENDODONTIST (root canals)....it's a license to print money

  • @PHXSUNSNASH13 No problem, always glad to help,

Well, getting into Orthodontics is very tough since it's the most competitive Specialty in Dentistry, if you're getting into Dentistry with only Orthodontics in mind, you may end up hating it.Be open minded and always have a back up plan just in case Orthodontics doesn't work out for you, remember that there's also Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Endodontics and more recently, Oral & Maxillofacial Anesthesiology.

  • @PHXSUNSNASH13 You basically take out more loans to set up a practice if you decide to go solo, that means around 300-500k in debt, but if it all works out, you can make around 150 to 250% of that income in first year, and overhead will cover most of it, it's risky, but can also be rewarding, strong management/business skills will be required for success.

Otherwise, you can Partner up with other Orthodontic grads or already practicing orthodontists and split costs/income, less risky.

  • @PHXSUNSNASH13 Here's the steps:

    1)Finish High School.

2)Enter a Science program and complete prerequisite courses for Dental School.(3.6 GPA +)

3)Enter Dental School and do it for 4 years, keep grades high and shadow orthodontists + do research assistance.

4)Do your boards exam and ensure you got at least 95%.

    5)Apply to Orthodontics programs.

6)If you get accepted, it means more debts and 3 more years of your life wasted down the drain, it may or may not worth it, it's all market rate.

  • i've been checking a few of these sites. they are way off on incomes. a lot of specialities make minimum 500 000 eg surgeons, radiologists, derm, ophto.

  • What kind of grades do you need to get into dentistry as well as how high your GPA is in high school?

  • I am not insulting the dental profession by any means, but it is very surprising that some dentists, or ortho's specifically, make more than a common surgeon which is in my point of view, a much more strenuous and difficult occupation.

  • @thedirkslam41

What world are you living in? When was there ever a correlation between a strenuous and difficult occupation with how much money they make? In fact, orthodontics is probably one of the least stressful healthcare fields in existence. Orthodontics and dentistry in general is a highly regulated field. This allows them to command higher salaries. If anything, the competitive nature and the limited spots in the field influences salary...definitely not difficulty of the field.

  • why do dentists make so much money?? because they prey on people's fears. They tell you that you 'need' work done when you don't. In the UK, the average dentist doesn't see a human come into his practice - he sees dollar signs. He finds things that 'need' to be done, and in his mind, he's already decided how much he's going to make that day out of someone. The profession is sick.

  • @key2kingdom ...preying on people's fears? You either never had a dental emergency or are visiting "strip mall dentists" that are production based rather than health based. Your oral health contributes to your overall health. Healthy gums, healthy hearts. We can make shitloads of money because people don't take care of themselves. Last time I looked, floss costs under a dollar. Yet 10-20% of people floss daily. See you in a few years for a denture fitting!

  • @key2kingdom it's really like anything else... like auto repair...plumbing, home repair etc. You have to get some recommendations from people....friends, co-workers as to finding an honest dentist. The dentist I have been going to is virtually a walking saint. He is very devoted to his patients and does not charge as much as he could.......and yes....I got his name by word of mouth,,,,from friends. There are fine dentists out there, you just have to really look hard

  • whoever is getting into this profession just cause of the money will have their lifes shatteres. im a 4th year dental med student, and studying this is stressfull and time consuming as hell. you gotta love it, or you wont make it.

  • I want to be a cosmetic dentist they can make 500,000 a year

  • @brookeheartspie1234 Your best bet is becoming an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon,it's a specialty given straight out D-School.After the residency, you can do a Fellowship in advanced cosmetic procedures such as Rhinoplasty(Nose jobs.),Jaw procedures, under ears replacement surgeries, complete maxillofacial reconstruction...

You life will be BALLIN'after you get certified, guaranteed.

  • mmm - life is all about how much money you can make. It's a rat race and you've got to beat everyone else to the punch.

  • lool i thought i was the only one! i loved getting my teeth pulled out

  • Its really easy to pull teeth when they're in the exfoliation process but permanent dentitions actually have roots so do it for a little more than fun

  • what the hell??.. 300,000 dollars a year ?.. that can't even buy me a house here in canada ..in canada dentists make about 1 to 2million dollars a year from all the patients.. i swear to god

  • 1 to 2 millions ?No.

The average salary for dentists in canada is 110-150k/year.

    A dentist-specialist (surgery,orthodontist) makes about 200-250k/year....

    An hygienist makes about 40k/year.

Well...dentist or doctor...they all make enough money to live a decent life...if you're getting into med or dentistry school for the money, you won't make it.

  • @WarrenAch they could also make more depending on the prices and if he owns his own place or not

  • @WarrenAch lmfao of course in canada dentists are going to get paid less, however they are also going to be much less qualified. Because you all have healthcare which you so happily gloat about to the rest of the world, you also fail to realize the consequences. This means doctors get paid less, which means the smarter doctors leave Canada and move somewhere higher paying. Less qualified surgeons are performing on you instead. So while my healthcare may be free, I don't plan on dying anytime soon

  • @tremanrolls679 The "free" healthcare systems does not benefit dentists in any way. There's less saturation here in Canada,so a General Dentist can end up making about 300k/year FASTER and EASIER than a U.S. Dentist.

The Medical Doctor salaries are comparable to U.S. salaries, except for Quebec.

The shortage is only for family physicians, same goes for U.S.,there's enough surgeons here in Canada.

  • I agree. If you do Dentistry for money you will have trouble dealing with the fact you miss out on so much of life to be a dentist.

Then, if you graduate and are not that busy and not making much money you may wonder why you wasted so much time.

Do dentistry because you like working with your hands and helping people. Rewards will come if you are good and you care about your patients.

  • @SuperSasha43 Also, if you're in for the so called "Prestige" or "Swaggy" life, wait until Medical Doctors practicing Surgery call you "Just a Dentist", i guarantee you will regret getting into Dental School after hearing this.

  • @WarrenAch If a person regrets the decisions he/she has made in life just because of what other people might think of them, he/she will end up wasting his/her entire life worrying about how other people want him/her to live his/her life. So, really, an adult would have other stuff to worry about life other than how people would see his/her career choice! I suggest you start doing the same thing.

  • @Dentfly1 A lot of people say "Do what you like most, don't let other people bother you", until they can't pay their bills or afford to retire.

So, you have something against people who care about money and Prestige ? Go ahead, become a janitor, show me your commitment.

  • @SuperSasha43 how do figure they miss out on alot yea its alot of schooling but when u get out u work 9 to 5 and u have weekends off

  • Comment removed

  • @WarrenAch i love medical stuff like antaomy but i cant handdle pruser and lots of blood so i am choseing to be a dentist. help please! do you think im going in it for the right resons? how hard is it?

  • @WarrenAch i've been checking a few of these sites. they are way off on incomes. a lot of specialities make minimum 500 000 eg surgeons, radiologists, derm, ophto.

  • @longdog33 False, R.O.A.D. Specialties are not paying 500k for most...

The average is around 280,000$ and the private setting for Derm/Ophto/Plastic Surgery is getting more and more competitive, therefore income for average Specialists in this area will decrease.

Oh, and most Physicians work MINIMUM 65 hours/week, boring if you ask me, income per hour is definitely higher in Dentistry/Law/MBA-Level Business and the stakes are a lot less demanding.

  • @longdog33 depends on what part of the country you live in. I live in the Boston suburbs and dentists charge a fortune here. They are all driving $80,000+ cars

  • @WarrenAch wat do you mean by, "you won't make it?"

  • Well, I got into dental school for the money and I seem to be doing juuuust fine. -2nd year dental student.

  • @WarrenAch Decent? In USA that's a lot of money

  • @WarrenAch lol you could make it.. if money motivates you so much to make you work hard and get through med school , you could easily make it..

  • @gaga2bechillin wow. thats all I can say. wow.

  • Hahaha. So $90k isn't great?

  • If you start with 90-100k/year...you can feel happy, seriously, most bachelor majors who finish usually get under 50k/year....

After 3-5 years, your salary as a dentist will raise alot.

  • how much bad karma does a dentist generate. Pretend a cavity exists when none is there. Call for a root canal when a cavity filling will suffice. And then when root canal fails, pull the tooth and put an implant in. The job of a dentist is to continually cause damage and charge for the temporary solutions to that damage. The solutions of course only cause more damage. What a scam dentists run.

  • Wow are you kidding you must be going to western dental or some really bad dentist i'm really sorry for your suffering

  • hun, you need to quit going to whatever dentist you're going to.

  • @nealadamsdotcum...Have you ever witnessed dentistry in 3rd world countries. If you have, you would appreciate your dentist. There are 150,000 dentists in the states with 6 billion people. Do you really think they need to fraudently misdiagnose a simple procedure like a filling?

  • @mabdenno Indeed I do, 5 years ago, a dentist tried to talk me into a root canal. i went to another dentist(one whose kids were out of college, weddings paid for, etc) who made it a simple cavity filling. 5 years later, the tooth is just fine.

  • @mabdenno LOL....you think 6 Billion people live in the USA????? LOL.....the population is a small fraction of that....about 300 million. Thats a riot.....where the hell did you get 6 billion?,,,,LOL...LOL

  • Hey Im from Jacksonville, Fl and was wondering what steps I should take in becoming a dentist? Im a freshmen in High school.

  • type in Occupational outlook hand book in google and you'll get plenty of info... Trust me do all your homework and learn to really love your science classes especially biology the better the GPA the better scolarships you get and easier the process will be-you are the future

  • lol where a smile is contagious. i like this guy. and dang, a lot of money. that is great for me because what i will do with the money is important. yeah, i would like to live the rich life, but i am more interested in what i am going to do. and i can contact him for any information. that is just great. :)
