As for the guitar, it's a cheap early 1990s Yamaha fg-400a. I don't think it sounds as nice as my newer Masterbilt that I use on my more recent videos, but, for the price, that Yamaha is hard to beat.

Thanks for the comment :) As for the easy question, I've been playing on-and-off since the mid-90s. As for tips, I don't really consider myself much of a guru when it comes to original stuff. I wish I was ;) My 1st piece of advice would be to maybe check out guitars101 <dot> com. They have a bunch of forums that talk about a variety of those topics.

The 2nd piece of advice would be to start simple. Just record a simple I-IV-V progression (ex E-A-B) and practice playing various E scales over it to try to hear what sounds good to you.

For example, this song uses a I-V-IV progression in E (E-B-A), I used the Emaj pentatonic scale for the solo. If you are familiar with that scale, you can practice playing it over the length of this whole song.

Hopefully, these little nuggets of knowledge have given you a few things to try. Good Luck!
