The Rams would upset the favorite Giants up in Jersey 19-13 in overtime when Jim Everett hit Flipper Anderson for a game winning touchdown as the Rams would play the 49ers as the Niners who steamroll the Rams 30-3 by then the Rams just ran out of gas after playing two consecutive playoff games on the road the rams just ran out of gas and ran in to a team that was on their way to winning their second straight Super Bowl to establish themselves as a dynasty for the 1980's
Not to mention because the Rams beat the eagles they would have to the Medowlands in New Jersey in the second round of the NFC playoffs because two teams from the same division could'nt play each other back then until the Championship game for both Conferences when the there were five playoff teams for both Conferences until they expanded the playoff format the following year to six in 1990.
As a 49ers fan looking back the Rams beating the eagles in the wild card round assured the Niners they would not have to face the Eagles in the NFC Divsional playoffs instead the Niners played the NFC Central Champion Minnesota Vikings had the Eagles beat the Rams in Philly? the Eagles would had to play my Niners in the Divsional playoffs who already had beaten the Birds up in Philly back in week 3 when Joe Montana threw three 4th quarter touchdowns in the 38-28 come from behind win for SF.
to all you Eagles fans who think you have the worst luck, think about it for a second...from 1973 to 1989, a 17 year stretch, the L.A. Rams went to the playoffs 14 times missing the playoffs only 3 years...in those 14 playoff years they also went to 7 NFC title games, making the super bowl only once...shit, talk about heartbreaking, yeah? probably one of the most consistent winning runs in NFL history to never win a championship...
Im a big rams fan and i got this game...i transferred it from vhs to dvd....And that next week we did beat the giants at the meadowlands....Thanks for posting!!!
I remember, man. Ouch. We were gonna get them for that damned Monday Night football game. Freakin' Rams were blow-its back in them days.
What hurt the Rams, though, in the NFC Championships was the injuries. I remember they had to bring Johnnie Johnson out of retirement to fill in for safety.
Everett obviously suffered because of it. He was a great quarterback for the Rams.
If the eagles won that day, the next game vs the giants would have been memorable win or lose

It's still hard to believe how the Rams fell apart in the 1990s until Faulk and Warner arrived.
Throughout the 1980s, with the exception of 1982, 1982, and 1987, they were a very solid football team that was a perennial playoff threat.
How did it all go so wrong?

@chrisuncleahmad "How did it all go so wrong?"
Easy. They had an owner who dismantled them to move them to St. Louis.

Buddy always choked in the playoffs, as a head coach.
nealp19078 3 years ago 6
Yeah he did, it sucked.

@nealp19078 i wouldn't call it choking...the Rams just beat you...live with it...

I wouldn't call this a stunning victory- IIRC, both these teams had the same record.
