Got a great aircraft here but with BAE Systems announcing 3000 jobs to be cut on top of the 15000 already cut globally I wonder just how much more the company can take! I mean is this how BAE thanks its employees ? The article was in the Sunday Times 25/9/2011. It talks about BAE wanting to secure new business in the future....but if you cut jobs - that will make it even harder to recruit new staff because fewer people will want to be associated with the industry and will not take courses!

I mean just like the RAF they are cutting staff - even discharging new pilots after 5 years of hard work and training - and with Hornets nests that we have disturbed in the world - and the new conflicts which are breaking out globally is this perhaps not a very wise desicion? Eurofighter is a very advanced airplane - what happens when the current crop of pilots retire and can't fly these planes anymore? We won't have enough manpower because we discharged them after training because of politics!

@TheF16luva - It's good news. Especially if the 2 HMS Queen Elizabeth were built, which I still hope, and remained in British hands.

And if the carrier variant had some additional tanks under the fuselage to replace the lost space in the wings? Less armament - do you mean that the fact to fold the external part of the wings would weaken their strongness? But maybe a additional, removable frame on the wings could bring it back to the basic payload!

@ALB437 well a new airframe could be produced so it can carry a good amount of fuel and better armament , the HMS Queen Elizabeth is gonna be used with the F-35 but if the Eurofighter Naval variant can be produced, the aircraft carriers will be equipped with the Typhoon Navy Variant

@TheF16luva - I was not talking about a whole new airframe for the Typhoon, but just a removable structure that could strengthen wings. (I called it a frame). I would imagine this fitting in the fuselage just above the wings, and rolled out on the wings,( sliding out of the fuselage), when used for full armament. Still remains the question if the actual frame could stand additonal tanks under the fuselage? I think F-35 and an eventual Marine Typhoon should work together.

@TheF16luva - In my eyes the F-35 is by far too expensive to be used for all types of interventions. He should be deployed when really needed. So a cheaper Marine Typhoon, or a future upgraded GRS 11 Harrier, or new Ospreys (faster) could build an interesting team.

@ALB437 i agree that the f-35 is too expensive but i think the f/a-18f would be the best alternative. The harriers should not have been taken out of service so early, osprey's would be good to see and i think are a pretty good option, marine typhoons are still an idea in goverment but whether they start production is another story...

@TheF16luva - You are right, I had forgotten the Hornet. Maybe the F-35 is really 100-130 million $ worth, but who in Eur can afford that? I would prefer a Harrier GRS 11 instead of the museum, but....... I think many things are tried with the Ospreys and it seems to be the future in many ways. Doesn't look too good for the Typhoon. Have even read he might finish in the Coast Guard. In wonder wheter the 2 Nimrods will come back to life one day! And hopefully no HMS Q-E will be sold to India!

Both carriers will be in Royal Navy service. At any time one will be in active service and used while the other will be inactived and kept mothballed for cost reasons. The in-use ship will be rotated between the two, and in the event of a war both can activated simultaneously if the situation requires. While the possibility was mentioned for completeness in the Strategic Defence Review, it's not now intended that either will be sold or shared with the MN.

Had been looking forward to seeing this routine. While it lacks the "stunts" favoured by other modern jets the full warload makes this seemingly carefree handling very impressive. Given that the Typhoon was unlike its namesake supposedly a pure fighter it looks well set for its swing role with local and other air forces. How many modern machines could show off like this with four LGBs underslung I wonder.
