  • I love those orange & yellow chairs, its so 70's ... Bring that look back ;-)

  • There is an article at MSNBC called "Boys dying to be thin: the new face of anorexia" that says 1 in 4 anorexia and bulimia sufferers are male. I was never officially diagnosed as anorexic as a teen but had serious problems with self-image and eating was a problem, especially during my adolescence.

  • These films and their endings...hah... I've seen only one truthful anorexia movie where the girl died in the end. Nothing sugarish in that movie. Just raw truth. And watching that movie was one of the turning points in my healing back then. Made me think alot...

  • I love how he treats her. I wish I had someone who showed that much compassion for me. It has nothing to do with sex. Just nice to have someone who will always love you.

  • Is that.... is that the priest from the Exorcist?! The psychiatrist?

  • @DaliDahmerly yes it is, Jason Miller. good eye :)

  • My best friend suffered a horrible bout of anorexia/bulemia in, I think she told me, junior high/high school, but I don't remember how many years she suffered. She told me that she recovered when she "accepted Christ into her life" (her words, verbatim). She "accepted..." two decades ago and is, now, 230+ lbs. It is well known that if a person falls into ED, and for a long enough time, and they come out of it, the consequences they can face are life-long health issues of which she has many.

  • "Don't talk to your mother like that!"

Classic example of two people who have children to suit their own purposes.

  • Thanks for uploading this it really shows the plight people go through with the illness.

  • The relationship between her and her doctor in this movie is the best one displayed when compared to other movies

  • @AccordingToLo That's because it was based on a book written by a psychologist who specialized in adolescent eating disorders. He knew all about it from the doctor's side.

  • well this was a creepy/awkward ending...

  • that was so beautful

  • there's actually nothing wrong about the doctor...

  • I can't believe this film is thirty years old! Even though I'm a recovered anorexic after living with the illness for nine years, (and I'm only 20 now) I find humor in thinking the doctor should have had a group exorcism with Casey and her family, covering them in holy water yelling "The power of Christ compels you!" Gosh, that doctor was creepy at the end... But I loved the actor. RIP Jason Miller!

  • Wow, the book was waaay better. That doc was creepy & only got creepier w/ every ice scream spoonful he took!lol I mean, if I had to sit there & watch him eat I'd probably relapse. Eerie smile from him at the end & her reaction to it w/ the lick & all, not any better. How is it that I'm laughing at the end of an ed movie? lol

  • They rub the ice cream all over each other’s bodies...in a therapeutic sense of course

  • ...and then she sneaked out and purged everything she ate

  • Thank you for posting this. I've wanted to see this for 30 years. I've had disordered eating for most of my life, due to pressures of dancing. Yes guys feel just as much insecurity when another guy comes in to the studio with zero body fat naturally and you are left thinking "Starve" as the only way to compete. Creepy ending, but at least an important topic was brought to light. Thank you again for posting this.

  • She should of moved in with the doctor or something. I also would of pushed the mom and dad away

  • 4:10 The little pout and the come to bed eyes.. haha..

  • what a pedo

  • Is it really that easy to be cured? I know she went through a lot but is confronting her family and facing her problems enough to cure her?

  • @lemonde49 no. it is not that easy to be cured, but I think the point was to show that there is hope for recovery and just because she ate some ice cream doesn't mean everyday she'll be able to eat anything she wants. It was just showing that she was able to take a step towards wanting to recover

  • Charles Durning is positively thin in this movie. Thanks for posting this, it was one of the first movies to deal with anorexia and the reality of it.

  • wow tears loved that movie

  • Does anyone know the song name?It does sound sort of creepy but really good at the same time.

  • @gnrqueen It's "Songs to Aging Children Come" by Joni Mitchell. And it is creepy!

  • I am surprised her insurance didn't run out! Judging by "Thin", it seems to happen regularly and before the 'final cure'.

  • he has the tiniest mouth to be chewing so much ice cream who does he think he is eating so much in one bite come on now

  • i think I've seen this movie at least 100 times in my early teenage years, it marked me so much... i too had eating disorders... i was so obsessed with this movie, ironically instead of helping me fight my self-image issues and eating disorders, i actually made me more sick and weak.. watching this part and the ending with Joni Mitchell Songs to aging children come, very depressing and beautiful..I guess this movie represents a very dark, lost, sad and vulnerable part of my life...

  • Wut a very... Disturbing ending

  • watching him eat makes me uncomfortable lol

  • i hated it when he said delicious!

  • 4:14 I can't stop repeatedly clicking it.

  • the mom annoyed me throughout this whole entire movie! >:P

  • I eat ice cream like that when Im trying to get my boyfriend to fuck me to be honest..

  • He's so creepy. Then again, Levenkron is a bit of a tool and he wrote the source book. Huge messiah complex. His theories on self-injury also are very narrow and biased - they don't fit non-eating disordered injurers.

  • That Guy looks like such a creeper eating that ice cream lol

  • What you don't see is when they finish their ice cream, sneak into the janitor's closet and fuck.

  • ppl are being so stupid about their relationship! back then ppl could show affection and care about one another with out there being a dirty reason for it. we now a day have a very screwd up perspective on human relationships and it makes me very sad and omg the movie is from the early 80's some of the music was strange get over it! lol

  • @TwatSwab couldn't agree with you more

  • @TwatSwab My best friend, from when we were both 7 years old, take walks around my old neighborhood and reminisce about old times, and onlookers/passers-by stare at us as though we are doing something wrong. One time we were taking a walk, I got so fed up with the people staring that I made a comment about how rude it was that they were doing that, and she told me that she thought it was because they thought we were a "couple". Times have certainly changed and, in many ways, for the worse.

  • @TwatSwab *clap* *clap* *clap* Well said.

  • I cant see the tears she should of moved in with a friend or something

  • I watched this movie at school a few years ago, but I remember her having to go to a rehab place or something with all these other girls.

  • what a disturbing movie! the therapist is a perv! and the song at the end! AHHH!!!

  • They so wanna fuck each other.

  • It's like they're frenching via ice cream at the end scene.

    Like frickin' get a room.

  • omg so laughably creepy hahahahaha <3

  • I feel just like this girl!!! I`m slowly wasting away i know i have to eat i just cant tho!

  • What a creepy ending. Starting with the pervy grins and ghost singing and ending with the picture. I must say that was THE most depressing movie I have ever seen in my life. I am scarred for life now and I am never watching another e.d. movie but this was by far the worst.

  • THese parents might as well not have ears. they dont hear anything she is saying

kinda creepy music playing as they eat their ice cream

  • THese parents might as well not have ears. they dont hear anything she is saying

  • Almost wet myself when he said "delicious" oh shit that was funny!

But I really do love this movie :)

  • @littleLOLkat I laughed so loud. It was so creepy, but I love the movie as well.

  • @Justlov4

    I laughed too

  • I actually thought this ending was sort of adorable, haha. And if you'll notice, she sort of let the ice cream touch her teeth! Obviously it doesn't mean she's "cured", but she took a big step.

  • His face when eating the ice cream actually makes me LOL

  • the ending music makes me wanna dance!

  • @PhourQ makes me wanna jump in an early grave is what it does

  • By the way, my comment about being cured after the insurance runs out was a sarcasm. But unfortunately, that's how it works in many of the ED units. Eating disorders last a lifetime. They are never "cured", even after they seem to get better. I call it "remission". Like alcoholics, they are either lapsing or recovering

  • According to IMDB, "with medical supervision, Jennifer Jason Leigh wasted down to 87 pounds" for this role. THATS RIDICULOUS!! That's like Barry Williams becoming addicted to nicotine because his role on the Brady Bunch episode to persuade kids not to smoke called for him to actually smoke! How ironic.

  • They really didn't know how to treat eating disorders back then, did they? In most of today's facilities, they wouldn't let either one of the ED patients alone in their rooms for a second. They'd be on them like leeches...until their insurance ran out...then they were cured.

  • I cracked up laughing when he said "Delicious." I thought that was funny :L

  • WOW creepy icecream scene. Her smile is evil , his eyes are deranged.

  • I think this movie was great! How many of us feel like our family don't notice who we really are or would even care to know..I love how the movie showed her start and progression into this disease

  • That stupid face hes making then that music! its horrible

  • It actually was a good movie but, I honestly didnt like the last scene the acting didnt seem right.

  • amazing movie.

  • I find it ironic that this movie was produced by Aaron Spelling..because just look at Tori Spelling now.

  • i hate to see him eat... but the idea behind this whole movie is soooo great!

and yeah i like joni mitchell and Jeniffer plays Casey very good - in my opinion!!!

lets hope all those who suffer today (including me :S) will get better some day!

let's eat that icecream together - some day! :P

  • Jennifer Jason Leigh is worst actress in hollywood she and Robbie Benson

  • How annoying is that last scene? She's a horrible actress and that guy is just CREEPY! "Delicious'" ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

  • @judewishedhimselfout She's actually a pretty good actress.

  • @GEhotpants101

Actually she is the same annoying, monotoned, depressed, and mopey person in EVERY movie she is in! I wouldn't call that a good actress.

  • @judewishedhimselfout

i love her. she's a very good actress. Always been that dark and creepy, geeky and vulnerable character, she embraces it very well

  • The doc is totally giving her the "pedo" smile at the end! @_@

  • Spelling always had the good stuff.

  • The screenwriting is poor. The acting is mediocre. Its a good first role for Jennifer. She's done much better films. I'm glad her skills improved.

  • @2cruiz4vr

but its supposed to be a somber, depressed movie... i think it was perfect for that time, it did have this 'educational' angle to it... i know it marked me for a many years ... When i see her in this movie, I see Jennifer Jason Leigh today as she was back then. Just like Jodie Foster..

  • God, that music makes me wanna kill myself...WTF?

  • Casey should of been put in a foster home, anyone agree

  • CREEPY MUSIC!

  • @DarlingKaya I dunno, but all I can think of is Anne of Green Gables or that weird family movie with a singing governess. XD

  • @MisakiModel I see where you're coming from-the whole idea is that she has to be living for herself and not for the approval of her parents and everyone else. But I disagree-I think she ate the ice cream because she realized it was okay, not to please Clay :)

  • she let the food touch her lips!

  • She eats the icecream to please him.

Because she said she wants to get better.

Hmmm. Not the right reason to eat (because of him) she should do it for her

  • The end was so awkward and creepy. Not to memtion unrealistic.

  • ice cream ???? are you kidding me???????? that's the last thing you'd start learning to eat again.

  • @chattychar :

AGREED! Seriously, he'd be lucky to get her to eat toast. At least that would be WARM! I understand what the movie/book/author is trying to get across, but it's so inaccurate in some ways. You don't just magically start eating again - and definitely NOT ice cream! Not to mention the creepy music, lol!

  • @hollyann79 I see your point but this is a movie, it's fictional. In real life he would have most likely started with something non fattening, like bread or rice.

  • Yummie... this films make me hungry....

Nice film, and still very actual in thematic. Indeed, today this theme it's quite of more a concern than in the time of the film's production.

  • My therapist is great. She's really helpful. It's taken about a year of trying about four different counsellors to find one who actually seems to know what in heavens they are talking about. Just keep pushing for help. :)

  • Omg what a great uhh cyh ffs uhh tht dude is really good :) probs best anorexia movie u have seen and she looks like hermione

  • @Imhungryhm I was just thinking she looked like Hermione too! :)

  • ewww omg them eating looked so gross!

  • this movie triggered my ana, i wanted to throw up when i started watching it. so i ended up forcing myself to eat a fry and some chips. i feel like a fatty. 5 days and i eat all that..=(

  • i love the music! idk what u guys are talking about hahaha

  • I really wish my psych would be that good and normal and showing sympathy and all I mean, this can't be in real life, can it? are there any psych's this good? I wouldn't believe there're this kinda psych's. there's only normal people you could meet daily that are as nice as he is being nice to her.

and OMG he said: I love you to her. right! now that's getting a little too nice if you ask me. perv?

  • @pieces2lose u should be glad u even have a psych. i wish i had someone who would listen.

  • that was good except for the ending

  • i dont like this movie is not true maybe half of the movie kinda of half FAKE !!

  • I wish my therapist was as good as he is. I just used to sit there and nod until I could go home. She wasn't clever like he is, she wasn't interested.

  • She has a really pretty smile

  • Great movie..

  • Rest in Peace, Jason Miller (Dr. Clay Orlovsky). He passed away from a heart attack in 2001. If alive today, he'd be 71 years old.

  • About the ending...remember when she was saying that she used to eat food without it touching her lips? He was just trying to get her to enjoy eating the ice cream.

  • I diddn't know Aaron Spelling produced this! Hmmm, interesting :)

  • i see what yall are saying about the movie now =) hahahahahaha. so creepy it makes me laugh =)

  • @iheartsjonas th ending i mean =)

  • he looks cute in the end,i wish my doctors where like that!

  • He makes the creepiest faces EVER! If my doctor had ever done that I would have called him a freak lol

  • Right...she hasn't eaten for months (at least) and after a single family therapy session she's eating ice cream, fries and a burger. The rest of the film is good, but come on! If it were that easy to recover I would have recovered 4 years ago!

  • @missapril90 lol I don't think she ends up eating the rest, she probably just makes a start on the ice cream or something. I mean, if he "cured" her that fast, I wanna know his secret (studying psych)

  • I think the weird ice cream face thing was him teasing her for the way she was eating it--not letting it touch her lips.

  • What's up with that ending? "Delicious!" wtf

  • The end part by eating ice cream and him makeing those faces was just showing her getting better

  • i love the way she asked

  • he looks like a pedofile!

  • haha he actually kinda does lol

  • I don't want to sound rude but what was with the ending?

  • what song is this??

  • Who in the hell is gonna feed an anorexic a cheesburger and ice cream? That will just want to make them binge.......seriously.

  • Yeah, I didn't get that part either.

  • @InFromTheVoid

This is an old movie. Anorexia was not broadly "understood" at that point. Things like that did not occur to doctors and psychologists at that time.

  • what did she say after you never liked my friends cause she sounded blury

  • @cookidoh093

    I thought she said"now I don't have any friends.'

  • That guy is creepy the way he stares at her.

  • @TheAshtraygirl101 absolutely , that's exactly what i thought when i saw that... "what a creep, looks like a perv"

  • heh i just wanted to say that. He has scaaaary eyes.

and he feeds an anorexic cheesburgers. not. a. good. thing.

  • this music belongs in The Graduate.....that weird ice cream montage i could do w/o too

  • @hardkor11 haha yeah that guy's creepy faces were disturbing!! Great movie though!!!!!

  • wth is with the end?? so weird...

  • @xoxuhmandaxox the end is ment to send the message that she is starting to get better by eating .. just dont know why they kept looking at each other so suspiciously

  • I can't stand that music! Arg! The ending makes me laugh so hard!

  • Shit...the ending is kinda creepy

  • Jason Miller and Jennifer Jason Leigh are such a class actors!

  • I love this film so much, thank you for uploading it, it's the only place i can find it! x

  • That doctor is a peadophile !

  • When my brother and I watched this movie he started to cry. I had never seen my brother cry before. He told me "If you wont eat to keep yourself alive for your own sake than do it for mine. I can't take loosing my baby sister. Please, I beg you eat!"

  • @sumle85 I had always wished I had an older brother. You're fortunate to have one and one who cares so much. =)

  • @sumle85 Are you Anorexic ?

  • That was the creepiest ending ever haha

    Good movie though :)

  • ROFL! the music is hilarious!

creepy much when he said delicious?

  • god this is fight kinda sloww. good movie tho.

  • I sort of liked the song.. sounded a bit like Kate Bush. It was sort of creepy.

  • I remember seeing this movie with my mom and the part where that other girl dies creeped me out but see it now doesn't scare me anymore. I haven't seen this movie in like 20 yrs, how scary is that??

  • Same here, I remember this movie being much scarier---started with the part when the dad when nuts and I just realized now how the other girl died. It still is scary, but not in the same way---Btw, thanks for uploading gabbyjw!

  • the music is truly crap.

  • it touched her lips O_O im taking it that was meant to happen?

  • WTF! The music is fucking annoying!

  • that man is a creep lol

  • his face at 5:15.

  • it creep me out xD

  • naw what a nice fella, takes someone special to not give up and keep going, trying to connect with people in that way.

  • who eats like that?!!!!

  • When they all started hugging her, she looked like her mother almost knocked her on her ass.

  • Good lord, that music is HORRIBLE!

  • @snapedinhalf :

I *KNOW*! That's the first thing I thought when I saw this. I read the book a million times a million years ago (recovering ana...how about you?). Book is so much better than the movie. But seriously, the music is just plain CREEPY! lol!

  • i think the therapist is sorta hot! :)

  • @krystalstarr01 defo an OMILTF

  • he eats kinda gross.

  • does not!

  • its because he is making fun of the way he eats to make her smile if you actually noticed his eyes he makes a bit of a funny face and then she laughs.

  • The doctor kinda gave her a creepy look at the end.

  • did not!

  • Question:

Is the thereapist the same actor that played the priest in the "Exorsist"?
