@ubsme2 I feel you pain. My older brother of 2 years died when he was 17 and 2 years my dad died. Most difficuklt time of my and my mothers lives (was only the 4 of us). My mother's health has never been the same. And even now over 30 plus years ago it still hurts so I can imagine the pain you and your mother went through. I pray for you and your mother. God bless

I just hope you and your mum have the strength to continue with your lives and not waste precious time..after all, at least you still have your mother to hug at night :'(
This song is sooo sad... But I'm strong. My father passed just recently, He left his wife heartbroken. They were married for 12 years He was only 60 years old when (ALS) deadly disease took his life away too early. But he is resting now in the Heavens with Angels watching above us. I love you..DAD

I just took a random CD that my dad had and put it on, and was not disappointed. It was a "best-of" Cd by Gilbert O'Sullivan. This was track number 2, and I had heard this song many times before but had no idea who it was. I'm gonna borrow random CD's from him more often.

Thank you gosmusik. I don't understand why do so many morons think there's something wrong with original recordings so they feel licensed to "improve" the sound with booming bass and loud harsh highs. What's even worse, the recording industry re-issues songs with the same crap eq.

i've just had a listen to electric avenue by eddie grant, and it's a brilliant tractk (i live in Brixton) but I can't see the connection with this song. But please enlighten me.
The connection between the two songs isn't necessarily anything specific, they just both share a similar lyrical and musical dissonance. For example, if you weren't really paying attention to the lyrics of Alone Again, you might think it's a generic love song, because of it's tune. It's not at all a sad tune, and yet the first verse mentions suicide.
Similarly, Electric Avenue is extremely up-beat, poppy, catchy; and yet it includes lyrics about being unable to feed one's children.
Yeah, it must have taken incredible self control to sing this song without balling your eyes out! But Detheger you are right, it's not a negative song, it's positive, I can listen to it over and over. This is a perfect song.
This song reminds me of the song "Electric Avenue" by Eddy Grant, in that it's a really up-beat song, and yet the lyrics are actually very sad. Of course, this song is more poignant than Electric Avenue.
Gosmusik, this is the best recording on youtube, please repost it without the slash and the brackets around the naturally.......more people need to here this lovely version.
