  • dark and beautifull

  • Alison is a real talent. Just love her voice

  • With Jessy Norman, you can also hear the words ! But Alison has an incredible voice, that's a wonderful song for her !

  • @daz3406 Totally agree!

  • Her voice is almost jazzy, so rich

  • Just listened to the Waldbuehne Berlin performance of Sasha Waltz which was fantastic. Still - for that aria I prefer this deep voiced, non-operatic interpretation - Alison, I love You for that - a music one would like to die with

    grand admiration perlaurent

  • A very nice non-operatic version ... but the famous Janet Baker performance makes me weep.

  • So far I have to go with this version... Alf rules

  • The most moving version of this aria I've heard.

  • @yourforte

yes, I think Alison did it better than operatic singers

  • @radiussong Yes, I agree. So much more emotion.

  • @yourforte try Jeff buckley's version of Dido's Lament

  • @CattailsandRoses Thank you, I've just listened. Hauntingly beautiful.

  • this is not a song, it's an aria from Henry Purcell's opera "Dido and Anaeus"

  • @radiussong don't be a prig - opera is made of songs. Some "borrowed" from the popular canon of their time while others become standards. Just because we call it an aria don't stop it being a song

  • @bronskilx That's the first time I've seen someone use the word "prig" outside an Enid Blyton book - and you're quite right :) I can't stand pedants.

  • :'(

  • wow this is one unique voice. i've never heard anything like it before. Its sounds almost if she was a male tenor. The most deepest rich alto voice I've ever heard<3

  • wow!!!!!

  • fantastyczne wykonanie !

  • Wonderful, this is such a sad song, and Alison brings a fresh approach - much nicer than the usual operah singers who crucify this fabulous melody with tons and tons of over done vibtrato. ,,,and you can hear the words....Bravo!

  • @hootersnooter vibrato is crucial to healthy singing.

if you heard straight tones i guarantee you wouldn't like it.

  • is there anybody who knows where we can buy the cd VOICE, its impossibel to get it...please help!!!!!

  • @hafoko - it's available from independent sellers via Amazon - I just ordered it via Amazon-Germany

  • I've been a fan for years. Her voice gets better and better. This always makes me cry.

  • Jeff Buckley sang it at the Meltdown years back, amazing.

Best song of the 17th century.

Sure they'll be saying the same about 'shad uppa ya face' in a few hundred years

  • @tinmccool Your post was actually pretty clever and funny.

  • wasn't joking, but hey ever listen to Roy Harper singing 'Another day', similar heartbreaking sniffle music. This Mortal Coil (Blast First records) do a version and all, just a thought

  • one of the best versions!

  • what an emotion,,,she sings it so beautiful.....great................i know here songs, but this is farout the best,,,her voice is breakable and yet son strong

  • She's amazing! I want to buy her CD :-)
