it all depends on your very own style. Thats what all martial arts grow on, not that you learn what they teach you only, but that you can grow own style which works best for you. The basics are there to get your started.

in wushu grading do they do belts or ribbons?

Chinese don't have a ranking system but, sashes are used. Not for ranking but, to hold the intestines in place. Really helpful...
