Exactly, it's an upside-down righty control plate. Apparenty Hofner didn't make special control plates for left handed instruments. What you see in 3:45 is neck pickup solo'ed position. You can also see that the plate is now held in place by four screws instead of the original 2.
Wow, great instruments! However, the interviewer knows maybe too much, and should let Smith answer, and limit himself to questions...even though, as a fellow Beatle freak, I'd have trouble restraining myself too!
