It sounds weird but I always like watching exhibition and demonstrations because it's amazing how much work is put into their style. That and it's so graceful it reminds me of a well thought out choreography. Odd way to think about it
yeah this is awesome. i need to learn more about this guy. this is a very valuable form to see executed so well. perfect balance of power, speed, intention and grace. so is this an essential form of the seven star system or is it part of the plum blossom style? i study eight step myself its always great getting concrete facts about the forms and the organization of the forms and their meanings.
this video was filmed in a kung-fu studio in Florida operated by GrandMaster Chan Poi. I had the honor of taking a seminar with the late GrandMaster Lai in 7-star Mantis at a tournament of Master Tony Yang's, when it was being held in Canton,Ohio. Lai Si-Fu tong-long kuen hai tai ho aah'!
man, i know this form and white ape exits cave too, the thing that i dont get about martial arts is that different schools have different sifu's that teach the same form but really differently, so it's never presented exactly like the same
the story of Tarzan. Each publisher will have editors who will edit or re-interpret the old story of Tarzan to make young people understand the story of Tarzan.
Each Sifu will teach the form according to their idea of what the student should learn. Each school has it's own recipe of kung fu.
The Grand Master is the keeper of the knowledge. It's the difference between a Sifu and a Grand Master.
Most teachers usually have their own way of performing a form that goes slightly outside of the traditional movements. He does several movements differently here and adds several hand motions.
White Ape Steals the Peach, it's the first form of record that I do under my Sifu. He likes to make sure we are good enough to earn our next rank, since we are a smaller class.
the peach in Chinese culture is often used to represents long life, so it is often in reference to 'stealing the life' which in the case of the form means it contains a system's particularly lethal techniques, rather than techniques for maiming or incapacitating=)
hey this set is a real good set i have it !!!! and i like it alot and thx for posting this its awesome to see brendan lai perform white ape steals the peach !!!
|Re: GQplaya2k| In all seriousness... yes. It is from the Northern Praying Mantis boxing system. The late Sifu Lai was from the Won Han Fan line (HK). This is a real treat to see, and have archived for others to observe as well. Thanks again for posting this!
In all seriousness, is this a form in praying mantis or is it an art in itself. I'm asking because theres a video of this same guy doing praying mantis.
Brendan Lai was a grand master of the Northern 7 star praying mantis system. This is the 7 star version of the empty hand set "White ape steals the peach" which is a form found in the praying mantis systems.
I've seen this reference to elbow strikes to the face (combined with hooking behind the neck) in Plum Flower Mantis, so I think that interpretation may be particular to some schools in that branch of mantis.
i doubt this was a legitimate question to begin with, but as someone else said, steals the peach is a motion which uses a negative gou (hook) fist to attack the groin... it's a common motion in qixing tanglang q'uan sets
not enough GiNG. 2 stiff.

What this video shot in Sifu Lai's school?
If so has the school closed down or is it being operated by one of his students?

It's like each form is like a book. For example,
the story of Tarzan. Each publisher will have editors who will edit or re-interpret the old story of Tarzan to make young people understand the story of Tarzan.
Each Sifu will teach the form according to their idea of what the student should learn. Each school has it's own recipe of kung fu.

I've been told that stealing the peach refers to an elbow to the face. I suppose it refers to the direction of the energy.

GGplaya2000 u can't use English logic to understand Chinese words.
Stealing peach could mean attack enermy's sex organ in this case.
wlpoiacb 5 years ago
Tru. But u got to admit that in english it DOES sound funny...
And before u guys rip my head off, i'm just pokin fun at the ENGLISH name, and not the martial art itself;)
Keep stealing those peaches; they'r good for u ;)
