actually really helpful... "keep your ribs expanded" isn't really something you can voluntarily do but the image of an inner tube helps a lot. thanks!

Hi, quick question. I sang a song to my girlfriend (because shes a good singer)
She said that i can't sing it this moment in time but i have the potential (she would tell me if i could or not) Apparently its to do with my breathing that i cant get right. so i hope this helps.
Your voice is going through some natural changes. Keep singing, and when you get a bit older it should work itself out and you'll know what you're dealing with as far as your voice goes.
I'm doing vocal lessons but there's something i want to ask XD!! you should breath through ur mouth or ur nose, and why ?? plz i wanna know really bad
Well, it's probably a matter of personal preference. If you can take a breath in through your nose, it'll probably be a cleaner breath, (because of your nose hair, you have a "filter") but you may not always have time to take a breath that way. It's whatever feels most comfortable for you. :)
Try lifting your arms above your head and inhaling... then bring your arms down WITHOUT exhaling... you should be able to feel your ribcage expanded. When you exhale you'll feel it going back down again.
I have a question, I inhale start to sing but i lose breath fast how should i be doing this inhale and slowly exhale and singing at same time cld you mybe make a vid of that it might sound a bit ridicolus. Thanks for your help :)
Hey there, I think you just need to practice "holding on" to your breath. Don't let it out so quickly when you're singing, and you'll be able to sustain it through your phrases.
Thanks for the great tip! I'm gonna try that.. I think lifting the arms & inhaling works for me to recognise the posture :)
Breathing is something I need to work on- sometimes I "get it" & sing from my 'stomach' but sometimes, I just end up singing from umm..somewhere else lol.
Hey, it happens! It's hard too sometimes, when you're singing a really fast-paced song to take a proper breath each and every time... but keep trying your best to use the right posture and you'll be in good shape! :)
Well, if your shoulders are rising and falling when you're inhaling, it could be a sign that you're taking a "chesty" breath. You should try to concentrate on inhaling from low down where your diaphragm is. Expand your ribcage all around you and let your lungs fill up with air. Your sides should be expanding outwards, not up and down.
Well, if you put your arms up, and it works then, just practice slowly bringing them down without moving your mid-section at all. Remember, it's natural for your ribcage to come back down a bit while you're singing, you want to make sure you're not holding yourself too rigid. The idea of this is just to hold your ribcage out so your lungs have decent capacity the whole time, but don't hold yourself there too tightly or it could be uncomfortable.
Question. Breathing with your stomach right. Well, does that apply to Pop, Rock, or R & B singer? or just for classical singers or broad way? Because I see these pop, rock, r & b singers taking off their shirts and they stomach is not out at all and almost no movement.
Yes, breathing should definitely come from your stomach, for all types of singing. Especially in rap, they have looooong phrases that they go through, and they have to take really quick breaths sometimes.
You probably won't notice their stomach's going in and out a lot, it's more the ribcage that should be expanding... sideways, not necessarily forward. And it shouldn't be too exaggerated either, or you could end up holding yourself to rigidly. Just a natural expansion of the ribs. :)
Hey, thanks for your reply. It is really cool that you replied. Wow ~ but I just sing now without thinking about it. I just sing it sounds much better. Just singing comfortably is great. Thanks
