What a prick! I used to ride my bicycle to and from work every day when I lived in Phoenix, AZ. My husband and I only had to have one car at that time and what a money saver that was. This douche needs to be educated. What in the hell is "clean coal"?!
Urrrrm go to ANY major city on earth and its swarming with Bikes. They re MUCH quicker around cities than cars, as well as providing all the obvious benefits to everyone and the individual. But do republicans see that, noooooo because that involves logic and reasoning.
You Americans sound like Rednecks if you ellect idiots like this guy talking. Bicycles are efficient, and many of you fat Americans could do with the exercise. Bicycles are part of the solution, particularly if you start building cities on a people scale. Bicycles are more efficient then cars in terms of energy being converted to moving a person forward. I know of 2 80+ year olds and they can hardley walk and they still ride around on bikes.
The biggest idiot in the House of Reperesentitives is....hold on, wait a minute,....Patrick Henry. I kid you not, listen to this man shoot sh!t out of his mouth!
If you live close enough to work then you should cycle, you can cycle to the store for that small item you forgot while shoping. If more americans cycled and lost weight that in it self would save tons of energy not to mention the savings in health care.
What?! Bicycles?! You mean, a clean, cheap way to get around in town, and that is also a form of exercise?! DURRRRRR DA DEMUKRATS R SOSHULISTS!!! FOX NEWS TOLD ME SOO DURRRRRRR. Grow up.
Hey, genius. I don't think anyone is advocating people fucking commuting on interstates on bikes. And no one is suggesting that decrepit 63 year old men like you be forced to ride a bike to work. Jesus chill out....
Perhaps we need to rethink where we live in relation to where we work. The best cities are those that have made it easy to live downtown and stop expanding into the suburbs. By living close to where you work bicycling would be an option. So would walking. We as a society need to get out of this suburb/freeway mania.
This guy is a jerk !! what a bag of hot air and obviously is the hip pocket of the oil companies. this is the same guy who got pissed when he was turned away from a security point in Bagdad, and called the soldier a "two bit security guard".
He also reported the locations of mortar shells being lobbed in the green zone-- giving the enemy a chance to correct their aim..... What a moron!
WOW a whole 1 million dollars this guy is a total asshole and not only that a fucking moron. The oil companies make more than that in a week. I ride almost everywhere and save soooo much. he doesn't mention that riding a bicycle burns calories and increases cardiovascular fitness. besides there are provisions for energy investment>
I know plenty of Republicans that would consider this guy an idiot who is serving narrow self interests. There is no single solution and while McHenry fantasizes a single solution (such as sending more troops to Iraq) many Republicans and Democrats agree that cycling is one of many ways that we can economize, reduce waste, reduce pollution and reduce one of America's most common disease factors, obsesity.
I moved close to work and take a bike now... instead of driving my Grand Cherokee. That's 800 gallons of gasoline a year I'm not using. And this douchebag ridicules it as a ludicrous idea. Unbelieveable.
A man who hates the bicycle, sheeeesh... it's politicians like this that will lead the the extinction of the republican party. The young get it, and that's why 70% of them voted for Obama...McHenry got in this time, but he is going to find DC a rather lonley planet for his ilk in 2009 and more so as the years go on.
Yep, that's all the democrats have got in their energy plan, "ride bikes." As a part of an overall plan it's crucial, seeing as we have about a million goddamn hummers cruising city streets. Watch out for those mud holes, yuppies! Christ.
To the tune of $1million? Oh wow thats like .003% of our total highway spending (see death and taxes). I'm sorry congressman, but if 1 million dollars is a major component of an energy plan, it would have to be a very very small one. Thanks for complaining about giving the cyclist anything, the one person who will stand up and actually do something about oil prices and pollution. Bicycling is alternative energy!
Umm pnematic tires are a bicycle innovation and the League of American Wheelman lobbied strongly to have paved roads. It would be hard to drive without those two things. And when your brakes go bad on your car you have to take it into a shop for a $300 brake job. New brake pads for a bicycle: $15. Bicycles dont change much because they work well enough already. As for the Internal Combustion Engine, well its complicated.

On, clean coal? Great! Now lets see the Righties cough up money towards alternative resources exploration instead of bulking up our nuke collection.

The guy's right. If you live in a big city and it's
a long ways to work, a bicycle is just not
practical. I have a 40m round trip to work, and
there is no bicycle lane on the freeway, plus, it
would take too long to get to work even if my 63
year old legs could make it. Better idea?
BEVs and PHEVs and EREVs.

Bicycles or obviously limited in range, but they are, along with public transportation, a feasible solution for those living in urban areas.
But yeah, hybrids would be a great solution.

McHenry, get out the sticks. Hickory sucks, everyone drives trucks. Come see what a real city is like and how real people get around.
I haven't payed for gas in over 2 years. Been riding and will be riding til I die. (knock on wood).

What's preferable, douchebag? Bombing foreigners to secure their oil and natural gas supplies?!?
Patrick McHenry was neglected by his family, and presumably dropped on the ground as an infant.

His reasoning/ideals instead of adult/leadership is why we have an energy crisis in the first place. Pathetic.
