I loved being a mother, but it is NOT a role that is valued by anyone but OTHER Mothers for the most part.
Men do yardwork a couple hours a week and maybe change the oil a couple of maintenance jobs that take very little time after work. Then they seem to have all this time to golf, fish, hunt, boat, play sports or get out with their friends.
And then a house and children (which is way more work to run) is left to the woman to upkeep and that is a never ending cyclical job.
NOT equitable and it must change. Otherwise one sees more divorces.
Women work hard at being mothers/housewives, but society and men don't really see it. Men don't DO it, so they do not know the day in and out work. And he insults her more saying she does not deserve a "break" , because she "stays home all day".
That is societies fault and parents fault for demeaning the role of women as nothing.
Now there are rare families where the roles are valued and father pitches in more. But those are anomolies. Even with both of them working.
The father can pitch in more and then there is better balance with running a home, caring for children and how the children then view the importance of fathering and mothering.
When society gets on board that a father can parent just as good as a mother, then mothers roles will not be OVERBURDENED and children will see that a mother and fathers role has substance and meaning.
Until then mothers (who work at home for their family for free) will be denigrated.
I am 55 year old woman. Was formerly a professional banker for over a decade, the moved into teaching for a while. Have been married for 35 years to the same man.
I had 2 girls after 10 years of marriage. I stayed home for 10 years to raise them.
As an older mother I saw a lot different. Most Men refuse to learn how to raise children is the problem. They stay stuck in the mode that you are presenting in stereotypes.
Women and men parent differently. But MEN who are educated about child development take the TIME to parent their children well. Same goes for women. Now many women are TRAINED from age 2 or 3 when little girls to learn to be a mother, but boys are not. That is one of the main reasons women are better at parenting.
Society demeans being a stay at home mom. I know - I lived in both worlds.
Boys are not TRAINED and being reinforced how to be a father. They are just allowed to do whatever they want, be adventurous, the world is their oyster attitude. Then when reality sets in about love, wife and marriage and children, They feel restricted and put upon.
Men are tied down or fear marriage too soon, because they LOSE their freedom.
Whereas, women lose their "freedom" too, but they were TRAINED otherwise.
Training our children to NOT respect both roles is the PROBLEM.
As it is boys play with trucks, cars, planes, boats and are encouraged to role play being a construction worker, firefighter, or astronaut. Boys are TRAINED that their only role is to work and at something adventurous. Unfortunately with that comes a big let down when they become husbands and fathers that some of their activities of single life are curtailed. But many men do not let that stop them from acting like single men in a married home.

I moved many times - I attended 10 schools from those many moves. Uprooting and HELPING with the moves including cleaning.
Babysat and CARED fully for siblings before and after school.
Helped CARE physically for our mother many times when she was in and out of hospital. Cleaning wounds and more - wiping behind - hold head while she vomits and then cleaning it up. I worked in strawberry fields, waitressed drive in theatre, dry cleaners in a coal mining town, and a bank.
1. I have ploughed fields, gardened, cleaning rocks first and then helping plant and weed. I designed and built my own home (with help of course), with money my husband and I earned. We have bears, racoons, deer, living nearby.
2. cared for pigs and chickens at one place we rented. helped kill the chickens and clean them.
3. know how to fish, garden, propogate seeds and SURVIVE in the bush.
4. wiped plenty of bums from poop in my life - that stands as an extremely HUMBLING job.

Working moms do 90% at home after work.
Men do yardwork a couple hours a week and maybe change the oil a couple of maintenance jobs that take very little time after work. Then they seem to have all this time to golf, fish, hunt, boat, play sports or get out with their friends.
And then a house and children (which is way more work to run) is left to the woman to upkeep and that is a never ending cyclical job.
NOT equitable and it must change. Otherwise one sees more divorces.

Now there are rare families where the roles are valued and father pitches in more. But those are anomolies. Even with both of them working.

When society gets on board that a father can parent just as good as a mother, then mothers roles will not be OVERBURDENED and children will see that a mother and fathers role has substance and meaning.

I had 2 girls after 10 years of marriage. I stayed home for 10 years to raise them.
As an older mother I saw a lot different. Most Men refuse to learn how to raise children is the problem. They stay stuck in the mode that you are presenting in stereotypes.

Women and men parent differently. But MEN who are educated about child development take the TIME to parent their children well. Same goes for women. Now many women are TRAINED from age 2 or 3 when little girls to learn to be a mother, but boys are not. That is one of the main reasons women are better at parenting.

New abuse cases in Brazil as of last year.
Some are old abuses brought to light, but some are new. But if the numbers are not significant, they are not reported in the press. It takes YEARS and the child, teen or even woman to report the cases. What kind of reports will emerge a decade or two from now when the new generation grows up? And of course sex abuse covers across all areas, not just the catholic church.

But a temporary measure to control how many children one can raise in a healthy way is valid.

You seem to be mixing up "abortion mentality" with direct correlation to "secular".
Whereas, many Christians were on board to see "abortion laws" in place in early 60's 70's. It would not have PASSED otherwise. For Christian population was by far a majority in the US back then.
Education about a womans body and cycle is critical, but also her respect for her body and sexuality goes hand in hand with that notion.

To wit: my mother.
She had NO clue about anything as was the conditioning back then.
She was pregnant with my sister in first year of marriage who was born 1953.
She got pregnant right after, then she miscarried that baby.
One month after her miscarriage she became pregnant with me.
She got pregnant 1 month after I was born.
She had the next girl 10 and a half months after I was born. We are "Irish twins"
In the meantime my dad in the airforce had moved across county 3 TIMES!

My mother did not HEAL well and I wonder why.
She was told by doctors and the priest to suck it up. But she was malnutriioned from all the work of moving and having one baby after another.
She begged the priest to help her learn how to not have babies so fast. The priest was kind enough to give her a book about "rhythm control" which is natural.
And thank God it gave her a break.
She had 4 more children starting 3 years later and 3 more miscarriages. That is another story.

They married young, my father basically from a stringent Catholic upbringing - was still not ready to settle down, so he went out, while my mother tried to care for all the babies.
The TRADITIONAL male dominance in effect. Men worked, played and women stayed home with babies and were forms of servants.
Society, government, church all sanctioned women as unpaid servants having one baby after another.
So, us older girls ending up caring for babies because my mother ended up SICK!

Putting a woman back in the kitchen, laundry room, and changing diapers for 18 years is NOT longer a necessity for her survival.
I am appalled that anyone would take away a womans right to live her God given "talents" and a maid servant is not neccessarily one of them.
Men and women can both contribute their talents while raising a family. It does NOT have to be women who are remanded to stay in the kitchen and raise children. A man is quite capable of that job too.

Women should have the flexibility to choose to WORK at being a doctor, lawyer, scientist, researcher about cancer issues. The HUSBAND can stay home and FATHER the children while she works after they kids are about 3 years old.
Men have every capability of raising their children! They don't WANT to because it is MENIAL, labourious etc. not many accolades without benefits and wages. Survival of society is not affected if a man stays home with HIS children and cares for home and all.

I moved many times - I attended 10 schools from those many moves. Uprooting and HELPING with the moves including cleaning.
Babysat and CARED fully for siblings before and after school.
Helped CARE physically for our mother many times when she was in and out of hospital. Cleaning wounds and more - wiping behind - hold head while she vomits and then cleaning it up. I worked in strawberry fields, waitressed drive in theatre, dry cleaners in a coal mining town, and a bank.

1. I have ploughed fields, gardened, cleaning rocks first and then helping plant and weed. I designed and built my own home (with help of course), with money my husband and I earned. We have bears, racoons, deer, living nearby.
2. cared for pigs and chickens at one place we rented. helped kill the chickens and clean them.
3. know how to fish, garden, propogate seeds and SURVIVE in the bush.
4. wiped plenty of bums from poop in my life - that stands as an extremely HUMBLING job.

SADLY, Housewives are NOT counted on the census as PRODUCTIVE members of society!
Some suggestions:
1. husbands should PAY their wives and then have it fully tax deductable.
2. Men and women have a choice to work at home or outside the home.
3. There is a huge imbalance of taking care of a home and children and the man SHOULD be pitching in way more. Until that happens most people will not see the value in a stay at home mom.
