Secondly, Mormons believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ (even if they don't interpret them just the same way you think they should). They believe he is their teacher, their example, and the Saviour of humankind. They believe he is the Son of God. They seek to become like him. All of those things are what makes them Christians. I am an ex-Mormon. I left 2 years ago after 30 years in the Church & will never return. But even I can say with confidence that Mormons ARE Christians.

Firstly, what you've said about Christians not discounting anything in the Bible is kind of silly, because you must be aware that Christians across the world interpret the Bible in various ways and do discount parts of it (including a lot of the Old Testament). Mormons for example believe that people will continue to BE married, but not GET married, in the afterlife. That is what they believe that scripture means.
I'm a convert to the LDS church and one of the books that really helped me when I was investigating the church over 30 years ago is A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, by LeGrande Richards. I had read the Book of Mormon, but it didn't answer my questions about the DOCTRINES of the church, and what made Mormons "different" than the regular mainstream churches. Richards' book really helped explain everything! I highly recommend it. I can't imagine being a member of any other church.

We don't discount the Bible. The BoM is another testament of Jesus Christ. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it has been translated correctly, and Joseph smith made some translation corrections in it. The bible we have today was compiled and translated from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to German back to Latin and then to English all with out the power of seership and revelation. I think we know so little about "god" or how we got here and why we're here that we can't even begin to have a conversation. Nobody knows what happens when we die and that's it. @lonewolfM16 Shellfish..... well it was Hebrew custom to not eat shellfish as they were seen as unclean because they were bottom feeders... but in the new testament, just as many old pointless and redundant customs were put to rest, Paul had a revelation and Christ told him about many other animals that were good to eat. At a time their may have been a reason why God had told the Israel not to eat certain foods and that may have been because of their cooking habits were more primitive.

They believe he is their teacher, their example, and the Saviour of humankind. They believe he is the Son of God. They seek to become like him. All of those things are what makes them Christians. Firstly, what you've said about Christians not discounting anything in the Bible is kind of silly, because you must be aware that Christians across the world interpret the Bible in various ways and do discount parts of it (including a lot of the Old Testament). Mormons for example believe that people will continue to BE married, but not GET married, in the afterlife. That is what they believe that scripture means.

I'm a convert to the LDS church and one of the books that really helped me when I was investigating the church over 30 years ago is A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, by LeGrande Richards. I had read the Book of Mormon, but it didn't answer my questions about the DOCTRINES of the church, and what made Mormons "different" than the regular mainstream churches. Richards' book really helped explain everything! I highly recommend it. I can't imagine being a member of any other church.

Here is something to think about: In Matthew 18 Jesus talks to his disciples about how to deal with a sinner within the congregation. Then, in verse 18, he suddenly explains: "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
What does that mean? You can also ask your pastor. I don't think he will have a really good explanation.

None of the passages cited negates the need for family relationships in heaven. What they say is that, in the resurrection, no weddings will be performed—no "marrying" (the traditional male role) and no "being given in marriage" (the traditional female role). But that no more bars the CONTINUATION of marriage relationships in heaven than a ban on performing marriages in some sort of building (a meat-packing plant, say, or a nuclear power station) would forbid married people from entering it.

We don't discount the Bible. The BoM is another testament of Jesus Christ. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it has been translated correctly, and Joseph smith made some translation corrections in it. The bible we have today was compiled and translated from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to German back to Latin and then to English all with out the power of seership and revelation. Thats why people differ on doctrine. Marriage takes place here, not in heaven. we speak no other gospel

All I can tell you, first before reading a verse straight out the Bible you should find out the context in which this was said. Then you find out that most early saints were bombarded by greek philosophers, free thinkers, not forgetting Jews erudites of the time. It was not easy for them. I think we know so little about "god" or how we got here and why we're here that we can't even begin to have a conversation. Nobody knows what happens when we die and that's it. Why can't we just be happy with not knowing the answers and just live our lives in harmony. I don't need a book that was written by men to tell me right from wrong and I'm insulted by the notion that the bible is a vital tool in finding a moral compass. Do onto others as you would want done to you: the golden rule.

MORONS, oops excuse me, I mean Mormons. I am always amazed at those incredible Mormons who claim to be christian when they don't even believe the bible to be a sufficient guide. Elder Russel nelson (Mormon apostle) said in a Mormon general conference in 2003 that God does not give unconditional Love, he also said that Christians were the antichrist...

With the definition of Christianity, we're really looking at two different definitions. The Mormons version is the simple one: if you follow Christ then you're a Christian. However, the Christian term is usually meant by: Christs ones are those who have, with deliberation, chosen to receive Christ and eternal life by faith, having become born again of the Spirit. "
The moments where the BOM seems to contradict the bible are usually disregarded as incorrect interpretation.

But kudos for intelligently and respectfully asking questions to the source, rather than calling us idolaters and devil worshippers and "judging" (really christian thing to do eh?). People of whatever denomination judge others all the time calling them devil worshippers etc...,but this girl had the wisdom to ask for an answer from one who is a Latter-day Saint! That you are or are not a Christian is irrelevant. But once again, as I see from your comment respecting others (even if it had been a misunderstanding) is not one of your strong points.

On the comment on Marriage in heaven. My response is: We are not married in heaven, we are married in our mortal life, on earth, and we are sealed to our husband/wife for all eternity. This means that we will be together in heaven with each other and our families. Easy concept huh? I think so.
