I know people are saying that this isn't appropriate because the songs about Bill "Bojangles" Robinson but that's just not true. It's very fitting as the song's about a white tap dancer Jeff Walker met in prison in New Orleans and not Bill Robinson. Love the song, the story behind it and of course the fantastic Mr Fred Astaire! Thank you LisaLaLisa92!
Ok I think your missing the whole point of this song, it is about Mr. Bojangles who was slighted his whole life, because He wasn't white now yet again you have managed to use the song meant to honor this black man, but putting nothing, but pictures of a white man performing, amazing. I have nothing against Astaire, but He has plenty of honor I don't think you should use Mr. Bojangles song which is talking against racism in this way which is the same thing all over again.
@Gowardh From what I've read online, the composer of this song claims it wasn't about Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. That it was about a white guy he met in a New Orleans jail that used the name "Bojangles" to hide his identity. Whether this is true or not (a figment of the orignal composer's imagination to make his song more accepted by the whites of the time) I do not know, but it was his claim.
@ShaytanBozorg NO WILL YOU JUST STOP BEING AN IGNORANT AND EDUCATE YOURSELF, YOU THINK JUST BECAUSE YOU CURSE AT SOMEONE YOU HAVE PROVED A POINT, BUT YOUR STILL JUST AN IGNORANT HICK. YOU DON"T LIKE WHAT I SAID DON"T READ IT!
@ShaytanBozorg Say Jesus is lord, and I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and arose from the dead fill me with The Holy Spirit instead of using Jesus' name as a curse word.
I can see this video was very thought out and an appropriate music to go with the title and the pictures everything was in unison...Great job was a pleasure to watch! Many times I feel the music just doesn't flow appropriately to the pictures with yours I walk away wanting to watch again and again. That's good because you should hope that the viewer would come back for more and hopefully send other viewers.
I remember entertainment, when it was based on the level of talent a person could bring to the table. Now ,it seems , every freak can have a TV show. When I grew I was told white people couldn't dance. Wow , the truth is not what it seems.
The real Mr. Bojangles was Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. An American tap-dancer who rarely used his upper body in his dance, and showed his audience impressive skills with his fast legs and expressive face.
@Ostenob According to the wikipedia, Jeff Walker, the writer of the song, indicated that "he was inspired to write the song after an encounter with a street performer in a New Orleans jail and does not refer to the famous stage and movie personality Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Walker said while in jail for public intoxication in 1965, he met a homeless white man who called himself "Mr. Bojangles" to conceal his true identity from the police."
Maybe I'm missing the point of this. Don't get me wrong. I'm the biggest Fred Astaire fan. I live in the state he was born in a visit often the place of his birth here in Omaha, NE.
But let's not forget that Mr. Bojangles was a real person. A man who was very talented but because of the time he was born in he was subjected to harshness and curlties. Yes he was able to be in a few movies but nothing on the scale he deserved. MY hat goes off to the man the song was about.
Excellent. You wonder where all the dancing talent has gone after watching Astaire. Sammy Davis, Jr. and Robbie Williams have the best Mr. Bojangles recordings on the tube that I discovered, too. All the photos of Sammy and the Rat Pack are great. What an era!!!!!
that was awesome. Fred Astaire definitely deserves a tribute. he was amazing. too bad we don't have people like him today. entertainment was so much more sophisticated back then...
wooooooooow this guy was amazing they cant like that today , they dont have that thing that makes you say wow anymore, its more like look at my tits im a singer and whites guys are thug rappers black guys are golf players , hahaha dont ask me what happened
estan muy equivocados mr. bojangles no es fred astaire!!! fue un enorrrme bailarin q no tiene nada q ver con el, informense mejor, aunque fred astaire fue muy bueno tambien
i know what ur saying...peeps with this kinda talent mezmerize me....check out my vid of "Paulo Nutini new release pencil full of lead with Al Minns and Leon James dancing"
I really love this montage. You really know the Astaire movies and selected just the right image. Did you know that in May 2009, it will be Astaire's 110th Birthday. It will also be the 75th Anniversary of the Gay Divorcee. Join the world-wide celebrations in any way you choose.
