@ozziejbr97 easiest way would be to order a foam thin air press from them, but if youre lookin for something cheap you could just make a ribbed wood press.
Does it matter where I get the styrofoam?? I would like to make my own mold, but am wondering if there is a special styrofoam.. Can I just use insulation sheets that I get at home depot??
I find it pretty amazing that a company hasn't answered this question in their own YouTube channel... but if you still want a press, have a look on the roarockit website.
Someone else asked about cost - it looks like they weigh in at around $50 to $60 US.
Looks like a decent enough kit to me - I might get one if I decide against a more DIY approach.
Vacum bags like this (or any other) can't draw more than 1 atmosphere - that's just shy of 15psi - so you may not get as good a lamination with one of these as you would with a system that used mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic pressure instead.
I'm not 100% on how much pressure is needed for a skateboard, so maybe a vacum bag is plenty, but it's something to consider.
One thing's for sure - this is the simplest system I've seen yet.
@thirteenfingers ahh i've read alot of articles and sources sayin that, cuz i was gonna get a big electric driven vacuum pump to do this, but everyones say the max depression is around 14.7psi anyway, still aint got my head around that concept yet haha, gonna go do more research now loll
In a vacum bag, you're using the weight of the entire atmosphere above your workpiece to provide the pressure. Average atmospheric pressure (1 atm) is +/- 15psi.
The most powerful pump on the planet can't draw out any more air than is in the bag to start with, and if you draw it all out - you'll have 1 atmosphere, or 14.7psi pressing down on the bag from above. The only way to go to a higher pressure is to provide more via a press.
ahhh yes, so i suppose the only advantage of having an externally driven one is speed, but then thats a downer on the electricity bill leaving that on for a few hours everyday lol so unless i get myself an £8000 autoclave, the max pressure exerted is the good old 1 atm, thanks alot anyway mate!

Here's how I see it - maybe it'll help:
In a vacum bag, you're using the weight of the entire atmosphere above your workpiece to provide the pressure. Average atmospheric pressure (1 atm) is +/- 15psi.

That any clearer?
