It's scene from "The Slim Dusty Movie"...iIts on DVD and well worth a look...It follows Slim and his band as they tour around Australia...great scenery and music....Slim told me once that he used to tour for eleven months of the year and each trip he would travel over 40,000 miles....not many (if any) would do it today - an era long gone....RIP Slim
@shaggyfeller That wouldn't be surprising to me ... Tom T. wrote several songs for Slim, one of the best known is "The Man at the Side of the Road" ... so for Tom T. to do a "Yank" version of this wouldn't be astonishing.
@verticalsmurf I have a recording of Gordon doing this song...It was recorded live during a tour he was on in Tasmania....I might upload it to my channel one day..it's nice to hear his way of singing it....
@verticalsmurf Will do...It's interesting to note, that Gordon was actually performing this song long before Slim recorded it. According to Slim's book, he was looking for a song to put on the "B" side of a 78rpm record he was about to do..he asked Gordon if he could use this song...the rest is history.......
That was just great. I am a old Aussie-Migrant-German, living again back at home, in Germany, wishing I coud be back... in a Pub with no beer... bloody good time I had, when I was still joung... Prost sagt Joost und packt die Mutter bei "de Juchei".
Only 3 comments? We need to do something about that.
I made a comment on FB, that I really missed my Slim Dustys' 50 cassette, which I'd bought in Albany, WA during a US Navy port visit in '82? I loaned it out several years ago ...and never got it back.
An old high school friend responded with a couple links for Man From Snowy River and A Pub With No Beer. From there I linked to this clip. Really liked it. True Australian and Slim Dusty flavor. Sorry to read that he's no longer with us.
@Riccardo90x Slims were he was great I grew up in a little place called Homestead and his friend Ronnie Boyd lived in town for a few years and when he came through town he would stop and sing. A truely great man.
saddest song in the world, i can't even imagine a pub with no beer
