One of the best Mr Howell lines in the course of the show was when the surfer guy Duke showed up. I forget the set up for the joke but Mr Howell said something like "You're not a duke. I doubt your even a Republican!'

During the beauty contest episode, the point was very well made about there being different kinds of beauty, and Mrs. Howells is one of charm and poise and knowledge and elegance. She is also a natural leader and protector. The other girls may represent "perfection of face and figure" but that is also most fleeting.

@royalDJjamie Makes me think of Endora on Bewitched. We all paid attention to the beautiful daughter, Sam, but just how elegant, poised and classy was Endora?! Who, by the way, was a bit of a beauty in her prime. I really started noticing her aged beauty when I appreciated her taste in dress. But what good is a beautiful outfit if the woman wearing it does not carry it well? There is something to be said about a quiet elegance!
