I also have a 3D tv and really if you didnt see avatar in the theaters you missed a chance of a lifetime its ok on your 3d tv but nothing like the real deal
actually spoony (video game/movie reviewer) talked about avatar with his brother and he said that it sucked, plot wise was unoriginal, and the amount of impossibilities pissed him off.
but wait... wasn't there butt loads of people that killed themselves because they thought things would work out the way they did in the story line? I didn't watch the movie, but that storyline must be pretty messed up if tons of people killed themselves because of it.
Someone died while watching a Twilight movie in theaters; those movies sure as hell aren't masterpieces. Just saying. If someone dies when watching a movie, either it's so badass that us mortals cannot compete nor comprehend its quality, or it's so mindblowingly terrible that Satan would cringe at the thought of it.
Avatar is to date pretty much the best cinema experience I ever had. Doesn't matter if the story isn't like inception and what not. The EXPERIENCE blew my mind. I had to see it 3 times in Norway's best cinema Colosseum, which just happens to be the best cinema in Europe, and the worlds largest THX system. :P
If a movie is gonna revolutionize CG effects then I must see it, after all, my future jobs will be in that field anyways.
You've probably seen it already but I saw it 3D in the theater and it was AMAZING o.o' I really don't think I've ever seen a movie that was that epic......(other than Inception...and the Dark Knight...lol ) but the whole storyline was really nice and I never found a dull moment with it. The effects that they did for the movie made everything look like something you'd only see in your dreams, which in my opinion is awesome lol. Anyways, I hope you enjoy(ed) it! c:
I fell asleep watching it. lol BUT I was really tired. When I first started watching it, it was fun. I liked what I did see of it. Even though I didn't finish it, District 9 I think was better. now since the blu ray is out (and is the most successive Blu Ray release ever), you should watch the Disc. I probably wouln't have watch the movie in the theatres for the very same reasons you told us.
But i think i will change my mind for Tron Legacy which will be indeed my first 3D motion picture i'm going into see in the theatres.
Idk if you have seen it yet, but it was VERY good! Better in theatres with the loud volume and sounds. And there wasn't a single soul making a sound because they were so concentrated on the movie. No one even got up to go to the bathroom. I hope you saw the movie. If you haven't, I highly recommend it ;) Very epic.
to be honest I thought the movie was very predictable (The story I mean) the visual effects were good but I came to watch the movie for the story and understand what its about. But the story is like comming from a Fanfiction. So if your like me who likes to watch a movie with stories this is your average movie but if you came to look for great visual effects, then go ahead and watch it.
Ok, I'll try to review the movie in just one comment.
Story: "Heard it before and I can predict what's going to happen"
Length: Kind of long, but not 'Lord of the Rings' long.
Clicheness Meter: 100%
Visually stunning: Yes, but in the end, you care less how it looked.
Overhyped: Yes
Final thoughts: If I were you, I would wait until it comes out and then either rent it, or torrent it on Btjunkie or ThePirateBay then burn it to a Blu-Ray Disc.
3d glasses work with the pirated? if it does, then im pirating. It was really good. Now, it wasn't orgasmically good like Live Free of Die Hard, but it was REALLY GOOD. Its like a 4.5 out of 5, but even though it is better than transformers, I still enjoyed transformers more. And mean transformers 1.
I thought that as a film it was absolute dogshit. I mean, the 3D was incredible, but I thought the film was mind-bendingly terrible. So many plot holes. Such a weak story. I'd be really interested to hear what you thought of it.
The movie does not make care if the anyone in the movie lives or died and it was way to long for what little plot it had. Some of the acting is like of a b mobie
If you haven't seen it yet archfiend, do yourself a favor and go see it if its still in theatres. I saw it in 3D and I was just like "WOW." And I have a 55' LED HDTV so I could've waited for it on DVD or Bluray but in 3D its just a totally different experience. I think you would like it.
i understand your point here of watch it at home, but... were talking about 3D here, and its mindblowing (i can assure it, ive seen it myself, and even that guy died by a brain damage from the overexcitement).
at first my father didnt give a shit about it, but after we went to the cinema in 3D he is supporting the movie for the oscars.
look it doesn't really matter if you have your freaking 60 inch Samsung 1080p television with the amazing sound system and the blu-ray player, the theater is BETTER. Not a surprise. A guy around my area got a heart attack from watching Thirteenth Ghost in the theatre. An ambulance came and they have to stop the movie. This was years ago.
Maybe people with high blood pressure should stay away from theatre.
i love it how theres so many ppl trying to get the same exact message across, no one cares unless its made into a movie has spectacular effects and sound quality. Thats a little sad DX especially for our society, anyway yes i did see the movie i liked it, wasn't bad, was pretty good, but, nothing original about it honestly. I left feeling like ive seen the same crap over and over again : / especially since months prior i saw battle for terra. But anyway hope you enjoy it on your tv :D
I'm sure this movie will look great in Blu-Ray but it wont compare to seeing it in 3d IMAX. You almost feel like you're in the movie...Pretty Cool. I plan on buying a 3DTV just for this movie (and some 3D porn of course :)
avatar is a very important movie...it has a strong anti imperialist message along with many others....represents spirituality and so many other elements that are lost in today's society....there is so much to this movie....and the special effects are only a minor highlight. Shallow people keep claiming it's only about the CGI, and effects, they are too stupid....this is a phenomenal movie in many ways....and people judging it based on the trailers are total n complete idiots ignoramuses morons
youre a pathetic moronic arrogant twit....if u havent been to the movie u dont have a right t comment us tupid moron...MORON hate people like you cuz ur are sooo fuking stupid!!! u cant judge a movie based on the TRAILERS....what an idiot...
The best thing to call Avatar is "cliche." A ton of cliche moments in plot that's been done many times. The visual is thrilling, but the story just really lacked for me. It's not bad - but it's not a masterpiece like everyone claims it to be. I suggest you wait for the DVD.
You really should see this movie Archfiend. Make sure you watch the 3D version because you won't get the same experience on your TV. You may think you will but no... no you wont. This movie is meant to be watched in 3D in the theater.
If u r a big fan of World of Warcraft u well love this movie...but jus makesure that u anit a person who has HIGH BLOODPRESSURE n not a HYPERTENSION...that dude die becus over exceting himself...OVERALL love the movie it was EPIC...
Frankly "we've" been doing that for decades. Look at a lot of 80s action flicks. Basic script, acceptable story. But is that what people were there for? Nah, they were there for the (then) badass visual effects.
i dont mean picture quality. i mean experience. and considering you purchased a 60in plasma, 15 bucks for a movie is nothing. for me theres no picture quality that can compare the the theatre experience. but thats just me.
I haven't seen it, and I don't think I will. I mean yeah, I want to..but I've heard it's only good for the CGI..I mean, that's cool and all, but apparently it's like Pocohuntus/any other Cowboy film. I know, I can't say it's crap until I've seen it.
DUDE! I have the similar size TV and a full surround sound system, BUT you do not understand what a major difference it makes by watching Avatar in Theater. This movie needs to be seen in theater at least once, not on DVD or Bluray
Definitely go see it in 3D, its well work the money... also, they're making a 3D TV now, so you might want to buy that before watching it in your home.
Go watch it, see it the sci fi is awesome 3D affects are just for to make depth to the picture and yeah the story is cool and thoughtfull best of 2009
With all due respect... can't you link any movie to another? All I keep hearing that this movie is like another. That should be a given and I always expect that.
Avatar was extremely predictable. There literally were not any scenes that shocked or surprised me. It does do a decent job of fleshing out the Navi and making them feel like a real group of people, however, but that's really the only good thing I can say about it...
LOl u want to be surprised? but a beer bottle up your ass, bet that will surprise u. Movies are suppose to be entertaining, u arent supposed to be thinking, i know aht will happen next, or oo i know how it will end. You just need to sit back relax and watch it. Retarded wanabe smarts like u piss me off (no offense lol) . Anyways u want mystery suspense? there are movie genres for that, avatar is not on that genre.
So you just like cheap thrills? You don't like to be kept guessing? You would rather know everything that is going to happen? Seriously, the writing was fucking garbage. If you like visuals so much, go to an art museum. And for your information, I like thinking and becoming immersed in the experience rather than sitting the slack-jawed and gaping at the flashy pictures. I want to see some creativity put into movies. And hell, I didn't even have to think during Avatar to know the end.
Almost every movie concept is derived from something already in existence, post apocalyptic films, hero films, man vs nature, nature vs man, man vs man, all movies are linear but it's about the cinematography, music, acting and story that make it great. Pocahontas isn't original, look at history.
Me and my fiance' went to see it in theaters the second week it was out. He was pleasantly surprised to find himself tearing up at one point in the movie... and let me tell you, he didn't even cry when he smashed his hand practically to pieces. So for him it's one of those "as long as you're comfortable in your manliness" movies. For me i cried multiple times from the sheer beauty and the raw power of the messages it held... The visuals were superb as well making more of an impact.
I saw it three times... I spent the $9.50, to see this movie in the theater and I was not even close to being disappointed... I too have a large high definition TV with the Blu-ray player, but that is no match to the awesomeness of this movie on the big screen... And as for the "shit to put up with in a theater", I've gone to see this movie three times, and I haven''t experienced any of that common Movie Theater bullshit... Go See It. I promise you won't be disappointed.... - Chocodog55
I saw it and I was entertained, I loved the effects and the story was cliche, but it worked. You MUST watch it in 3D in the cinema because the moment you open your blu-ray cover it will contain a pair of those shite green-red 3D glasses.
Avatar was shitty as hell. It is easily one of the most predictable and generic movies that I have ever seen. The plot was fucking garbage, the writing sucked, the acting was bad (besides Sigourney Weaver), the villain was ridiculously generic, the hero was just as generic...
It's a damn shame that so much money was wasted on such a piece of shit.
Don't see it at all. It sucks balls other than the visuals. Visuals don't make a movie...especially not an Oscar-worthy movie. The story is norm, the writing is terrible, and the acting is iffy. If you wanna see a good Oscar-worthy movie from this year see Up in the Air and The Hurt Locker. Both have brilliant writing and directing and acting.
I'd say it was pretty darn good for a movie but then again I never seen the movies that Avatar based itself on so I was genuinely thrilled while watching the movie. I feel bad for the person that died of course but yeah, the 3D blended well with the realism to the point you sometime forget its 3D.
Even if people wouldn't like the movie, the villain of the movie alone makes it worthwhile to see, he has to be the most badass and over the top villain I seen in a long while.
Visualy, Avatar is fantastic however the story it had the recycled 'tech v natur' thing to it. But they pulled it off really well. Definatly worth seeing
Im going to go see Avatar this weekend. Avatar also has a very good chance of surpassing Titanic as the number 1 grossing film of all time which would be awesome. Damn I never heard of a movie Killing a person.

It's one of those movies that better in theaters. But If you have that awesome TV, then hell ya watch it at home. That movie blew my mind! I cried!
Lythenna 2 years ago
I agree with liljon2882; it was an alright movie but I didn't think it was anything special. I'd recommend waiting for the Blu-Ray to come out.
rodrigtf 2 years ago
watch it in the movie you can only do that a few times you can own it forever.

Hey Arch in my honest opinon get the Blu Ray. That HD stuff will be crazy. lol

You really should see this movie Archfiend. Make sure you watch the 3D version because you won't get the same experience on your TV. You may think you will but no... no you wont. This movie is meant to be watched in 3D in the theater.

Go see it, the film is a lot of fun!

Frankly "we've" been doing that for decades. Look at a lot of 80s action flicks. Basic script, acceptable story. But is that what people were there for? Nah, they were there for the (then) badass visual effects.
croblesky 2 years ago
wow i 100 percent disagree with you thoughts on watching movies in the theatre.
RubiconJohn 2 years ago
Yeah, that choppy frame rate when action starts moving quick looks fantastic compared to the smooth flow of a good 1080P Hi-def TV.
TheArchfiend 2 years ago
i dont mean picture quality. i mean experience. and considering you purchased a 60in plasma, 15 bucks for a movie is nothing. for me theres no picture quality that can compare the the theatre experience. but thats just me.
RubiconJohn 2 years ago
I haven't seen it, and I don't think I will. I mean yeah, I want to..but I've heard it's only good for the CGI..I mean, that's cool and all, but apparently it's like Pocohuntus/any other Cowboy film. I know, I can't say it's crap until I've seen it.

wait for the blu-ray release tbh it was a good movie but for me doesn't deserve all the attention it gets.

The reason this movie is so good can be summed up in 2 words. James Cameron.

Tv doesn't compare to the theater for a movie like Avatar, in 3d.
Watch the comedies on TV.

DUDE! I have the similar size TV and a full surround sound system, BUT you do not understand what a major difference it makes by watching Avatar in Theater. This movie needs to be seen in theater at least once, not on DVD or Bluray

There is a change they will give you red and blue glasses with the blu ray, don't take that chance! Get premium 3D in the theater!

That would be the biggest complement you could probably get ever.

Definitely go see it in 3D, its well work the money... also, they're making a 3D TV now, so you might want to buy that before watching it in your home.
himo2785 2 years ago
The 3D experience is one that can't be matched, even with your super rad set up. ^^
Check it out in 3D, then buy it when it's released. You won't regret it man.

Dancing With Wolves + Smurfs = Avatar
Why is that considered 'epic'?, fuck that movie!
MurderCapital666 2 years ago
With all due respect... can't you link any movie to another? All I keep hearing that this movie is like another. That should be a given and I always expect that.
TheArchfiend 2 years ago
Dances With Wolves was actually a good movie.
Avatar was extremely predictable. There literally were not any scenes that shocked or surprised me. It does do a decent job of fleshing out the Navi and making them feel like a real group of people, however, but that's really the only good thing I can say about it...
sojirokaidoh2 2 years ago
that's exactly what i told my girlfriend after i saw it
alexisironman 2 years ago
LOl u want to be surprised? but a beer bottle up your ass, bet that will surprise u. Movies are suppose to be entertaining, u arent supposed to be thinking, i know aht will happen next, or oo i know how it will end. You just need to sit back relax and watch it. Retarded wanabe smarts like u piss me off (no offense lol) . Anyways u want mystery suspense? there are movie genres for that, avatar is not on that genre.
omarct 2 years ago
So you just like cheap thrills? You don't like to be kept guessing? You would rather know everything that is going to happen? Seriously, the writing was fucking garbage. If you like visuals so much, go to an art museum. And for your information, I like thinking and becoming immersed in the experience rather than sitting the slack-jawed and gaping at the flashy pictures. I want to see some creativity put into movies. And hell, I didn't even have to think during Avatar to know the end.
sojirokaidoh2 2 years ago
Almost every movie concept is derived from something already in existence, post apocalyptic films, hero films, man vs nature, nature vs man, man vs man, all movies are linear but it's about the cinematography, music, acting and story that make it great. Pocahontas isn't original, look at history.
Nogard229 2 years ago
Me and my fiance' went to see it in theaters the second week it was out. He was pleasantly surprised to find himself tearing up at one point in the movie... and let me tell you, he didn't even cry when he smashed his hand practically to pieces. So for him it's one of those "as long as you're comfortable in your manliness" movies. For me i cried multiple times from the sheer beauty and the raw power of the messages it held... The visuals were superb as well making more of an impact.
only1ofme382 2 years ago
I saw it three times... I spent the $9.50, to see this movie in the theater and I was not even close to being disappointed... I too have a large high definition TV with the Blu-ray player, but that is no match to the awesomeness of this movie on the big screen... And as for the "shit to put up with in a theater", I've gone to see this movie three times, and I haven''t experienced any of that common Movie Theater bullshit... Go See It. I promise you won't be disappointed.... - Chocodog55
Chocodog55 2 years ago
I saw it and I was entertained, I loved the effects and the story was cliche, but it worked. You MUST watch it in 3D in the cinema because the moment you open your blu-ray cover it will contain a pair of those shite green-red 3D glasses.

Avatar was shitty as hell. It is easily one of the most predictable and generic movies that I have ever seen. The plot was fucking garbage, the writing sucked, the acting was bad (besides Sigourney Weaver), the villain was ridiculously generic, the hero was just as generic...
It's a damn shame that so much money was wasted on such a piece of shit.
sojirokaidoh2 2 years ago
Boy, I'm getting alot of comments that are on par with this and then alot that are the exact opposite.
Guess it's coin flip time.
TheArchfiend 2 years ago
Visually its incredible, but in terms of story I can see why people dislike it
MonkeySpank100 2 years ago
Don't see it at all. It sucks balls other than the visuals. Visuals don't make a movie...especially not an Oscar-worthy movie. The story is norm, the writing is terrible, and the acting is iffy. If you wanna see a good Oscar-worthy movie from this year see Up in the Air and The Hurt Locker. Both have brilliant writing and directing and acting.
XFLOST 2 years ago

$20 to enter. $25 for premium seating.
