The tragic lost of Oscar Grant was an event that triggered this riot. There is a long history of police brutality. The community as a whole is fed up with the fact these injustices always end up being swept under the rug. It is (exactly) the legal system that isn't solving these issues. I'd expect people in the Bay area to muster a riot of a greater scale if Johannes Mehserles walks free.

The tragic lost of Oscar Grant was an event that triggered this riot. There is a long history of police brutality. The community as a whole is fed up with the fact these injustices always end up being swept under the rug. It is (exactly) the legal system that isn't solving these issues. I'd expect people in the Bay area to muster a riot of a greater scale if Johannes Mehserles walks free.

By the way, the "magic 911 number" doesn't work where I am from. I've dialed it 3 times since I moved here 2 years ago and I have yet to get through. Once there were gun shots literally right outside my front door. Nothing. One time my car go broken into. Yes, Mehserle was trying very hard for 30 seconds to arrest him, Grant would not give up his hands and put them under his body.
