@cross7fu how to you keep your water that hot when ever i change my water 2 days later it turns cold i have a ten gallon tank with a ten gallon regular water heater BUT HOW DO U KEEP YOUR WATER SOO WARM
do you have a uv light for them? im new to taking care of res turtles. some sites say to get just uvb and some say get both uvb and uva light for them.
@YawningBoy I got a exo-terra UVB bulb and a spotlight for heat and UVA, u don need to buy a reptile use UVA bulb, its the same thing actually
without heat, UVB is useless, and heat is one of the power sources for reptiles, spotlight also provide certain amount of UVA, which makes them become active
@orthacanthus1234 i'm doing that too because I had mine for about 2 years and his red ears aren't red yet. I'm guessing its cuz he's not healthy. His ears are orange. I just bought 2 clamp lamps and a uva bulb and i'm waiting for a uvb bulb in the mail.
@YawningBoy their body color is just like ours, people have different skin tones, its normal, but sometimes it is slightly affected by UV light and food, not to mention turtles skin color gets darker as they age and RES can mix with different turtles which makes different patterns and colors
@nidal23 theres always risk to put turtles together, but RES usually do fine together as long as in same size and the tank is big enough (they kinda need their own territory)
@xxsnipamonxx its made of plastic egg crate, its suppose to be installed to the ceiling to divide light, u can find it in hardware stores
basically I cut out some pieces, put them vertically as support and horizontally as platform, if u are gonna make one make sure to sand the edges so its safe for your turtles
You know putting stones at the bottom of the tank helps keep the water clean for longer cause it takes the waste in the stones and also stores food for him to eat later
@MarkDunne1698 hahaha turtles don stores food, I believe u mean they look for the food that sank into the gravels
well the waste goes inside the gravels doesnt mean they are vanished and dont produce ammonia, I have gravels in my tank now just to make it look natural, but actually its not good for turtle tank
u can see the water in this video is crystal clear coz I didnt put gravels in it, anything that drop to the bottom are removed by the waterflow
@cross7fu how long did it take to get them that big?mine is 3 inches. i keep him in a 15 gallon tank. he costs 5 dollars.mine ignores fish pls tell me how do you feed then fish. LOL
@oriongonzalesz to me it depends on the turtle's size rather than age, anyways I put shrimp and fish into the tank since they were like 5cm long, those were ghost shrimp and tetras meaning two-bite-size to the turtles at that time, I wasnt sure whether they would eat them or not but one day they were all eaten by my baby turtles, which means u can give them fish anytime, when they are really to eat fish u'll know, and remember the size of fish has to be proportioned to the turtles
@oriongonzalesz oh, its big enough for tetra and minnow, and never feed your pets flies or cockroaches, they may contain virus, insecticide or parasite, and I know a person who fed his turtle a fly and died not long after
Ok, my turtle is pretty small now but what do i do when hes "pond" size...i might be able to build a pond but if i dont what do i do. also, when or if i do build a pond, what do i do in the winter, do i bring them in? what size tank will fit MONSTA turtles. thanks plz reply
@UnknownGruunt first of all wt kind of turtle u've got? If its RES like mine then u can get a pre-formed pond or rubbermaid stock tank. Get a powerful filter depends on how many water your pond contains, u need a basking dock and UV light if the pond is indoor, if its outdoor then u don need any lighting, and basically thats all u need to do, it sounds simple but its not that easy when u actually doing it, so be4 it gets big u've got time to do the research of making a turt pond, hope this help
@omes7922 u can feed it fish when it doubled its size, the smallest feeding fish as I know is minnow, and its too big for your turt rite now
however due to the nutrition minnows are not the best feeding fish, guppies are better and really easy to breed, and most of them are smaller than minnows, easier for small turtles to eat
Damn, they are so fast!!! I put some in, and my turtle just met them, and then they were lunch. Try some ghost shrimp, those suckers are fast too, so fast the turtles wouldnt even know where they went.
u can buy a regular spotlight(50-60W) at home depot to provide heat & UVA to your turtle, for UVB u must buy the UVB bulbs thats made for reptiles, u can find it at petstore, the best brands are exo terra and zoomed, 5.0 or 10.0 are best for turtles
Today was the first day I fed my turtles live fish. They were noobs at hunting LOL now the bigger one got the hang of it. The small one was mooching off one of its wounded prey.
WoW cross7fu, your tank looks fine but you cant possibly keep 4 turtles in one tankl that size and they are all girls which means they will get HUGE, and you shouldnt be feeding them feeder fish because they have very little nutritional value and are usually loaded with a parasites. Your turtles must have been starving to go after the fish like that, whichwould imply that you are not taking very good care of them.
I know the tank is too small so I've upgraded their tank, pls check out my latest videos
Also they are all male, their claws hadnt grow long in this vid coz they were still small, u'll see their long claws in my other vids
Feeding fish are all CB so it is nearly impossible to have parasites, I fed them pellets every 2 days when they were that small, they were so crazy about fish becoz I rarely feed them fish
Dude, how are you going to tell him what to do with his turtles, you dont even know anything about how s/he takes care of them. Thats the best turtle tank ive seen, their all healthy if they can swim that fast and have that much energy, and feeder fish are meant to be fed to things and if some do have parasites, they wont transfer to your pet unless its living with the fish for a few weeks. cross7fu isnt telling you how to take care of your fish,so y r u tellin him how to take care of his pets.
it is not necessary to take them out for walk, they need both land and water, but swimming is their major activity, land are for basking and laying eggs mostly
if they get really big and your home cant fit in a tank thats big enough, u may get a baby bath tub as swimming area, wood board on the side as a ramp, so they can get into water or walk on the ground, but water thats deep enough to swim is essential, u cant keep them out for water for long time
in my opinion, u can feed them fish whenever they start hunting them
I tried to feed my turts earthworm when they were like 6 months old, they were sooo scared of it and had no intention to eat the earthworm at all, then I put fish and shrimp in wif my turts, one day they realized those are food, since then they will go crazy when they see something moving in their tank
I feed mine twice a month, about 20-30 fish for my 4 RES, I think thats good enough
ive been doing research and thinking about getting a RES should i really be nervous about buying a baby because of disease....and stick with buying one thats over 4 in.? Or is the disease thing really just a scare
it is a good idea to start wif an elder turtle becoz of higher resistance, but in my opinion RES are really easy to take care of, as long as u provide appropriate enclosure and diet to them they'll be just fine, but if u fail to do that, even u start wif an adult its still gonna get sick
well it takes time for them to realize those are food lol
there were neon tetras and shrimps in my tank as well, one day half of the fish and shrimp just disappeared, then I saw one of my turtles swim across the tank wif half a shrimp inside its mouth
hey i had a res but it died, before he was goin to die some kind of bubble like liquid was cumin out of its mouth what could be the reason?..i have kept my turtles in a plastic container (a tub) and they get natural light as i have kept them near my big window.
it died 6 months back...anyways i have a new one now i feed them turtle food(pellets) what shud i feed them with which they can grow faster..they are abt 2 to 3 inches now.
Thanks for the vid and all of the information. I have a red ear slider that is about 6 inches long. He's always eaten pellets and dry shrimp. I have been hesitating to feed him fish but I now see that it should be fine. Best to you and the shell gang!
i have a red eared slider turtle i hav it 4 a while now 2 day i got it a new big fish tank (24 by 12). i feed it twice a day (normal turtle food... if i start to feed it fish what kind how often and how much
my large one got a furry (i don't know if it just food or not but to make sure) substance on it neck (think moss underwater)
and the other question, can turtle sleep underwater, because my parent's bill are very high and we we don't have a lot of money so we didn't get them a platform, we just leave them water (about the same height as yours) and let them swim and they are comfortable there
The moss like thing on your turtle is some kind of mold, let him bask more often, and make sure the water is clean
wt kind of turtle is it? only a few kinds of turtles don need platforms
my red eared sliders are like most of the turts they need platforms to bask and support in the water to rest, they do sleep underwater but it would be more comfortable for them if they can sleep in the shallows wif the nose stay above the water to breath
my uncle owns a pond he gave my some fish to feed my red ear slider the fish was a blue gillbaby i bite it the used there claws n riped it apart true!
yes but if u give them alot of fish be4 introducing them to the babies they will get scared, and it is alwasy better to feed both pellets and fish, not just one kind of food
sliders r great swimmer, as long as u give them platform and place to rest and take breath u can put as much water as u want
they used to sleep on the platform on the back and right side of the tank, then I added another platform on the left side, u'll see it in my latest turtle video, the water depth on the platform is same as the thickness of the turtles, so they can stay warm in the water and just stick the nose above water while sleeping
they are too big for my sliders, they have to tear the fish into many pieces be4 when they eat
i watched a goldfish got snapped on the throat, blood came out beat to beat till it died...so i just feed rosy minnows now, they can usually just swallow them, besides goldfish is not the best choice of feeder fish
Also Cyprinidae(goldfish, carp), Corydoradinae(catfish, pleco, cory) and minnows contains Thiaminase, it will break down vitamin B1 and cause paralysis. And turtles may drown to death. But turtle food has variety of nutritions, so it only applys to turtles that eat fish mostly like snapper and matamata
Tetras, guppies, swordtail, platyfish and mollies has no Thiaminase, they are better feeder fish for turtles
RES also like goldfish mine eats them like crazy

hey i had a res but it died, before he was goin to die some kind of bubble like liquid was cumin out of its mouth what could be the reason?..i have kept my turtles in a plastic container (a tub) and they get natural light as i have kept them near my big window.
salluabubhai 2 years ago
when did it die? maybe it had a cold
cross7fu 2 years ago
it died 6 months back...anyways i have a new one now i feed them turtle food(pellets) what shud i feed them with which they can grow faster..they are abt 2 to 3 inches now.
salluabubhai 2 years ago
u may also feed them feeder fish and shrimp, sometimes they eat vege too but mostly only adults are interested into it
its not a good thing to let them over grow, one meal per day for babies, one meal per 2-4days for sub adults and adults is good enough
cross7fu 2 years ago
so u mean i shud just feed them once a day....and how many pellets shud i give them per serving?
salluabubhai 2 years ago
yes
about twice of their head size
cross7fu 2 years ago

Thanks for the vid and all of the information. I have a red ear slider that is about 6 inches long. He's always eaten pellets and dry shrimp. I have been hesitating to feed him fish but I now see that it should be fine. Best to you and the shell gang!

i have a red eared slider turtle i hav it 4 a while now 2 day i got it a new big fish tank (24 by 12). i feed it twice a day (normal turtle food... if i start to feed it fish what kind how often and how much
dudeclape101 2 years ago
my large one got a furry (i don't know if it just food or not but to make sure) substance on it neck (think moss underwater)
and the other question, can turtle sleep underwater, because my parent's bill are very high and we we don't have a lot of money so we didn't get them a platform, we just leave them water (about the same height as yours) and let them swim and they are comfortable there
animalresercher 2 years ago
The moss like thing on your turtle is some kind of mold, let him bask more often, and make sure the water is clean
wt kind of turtle is it? only a few kinds of turtles don need platforms
my red eared sliders are like most of the turts they need platforms to bask and support in the water to rest, they do sleep underwater but it would be more comfortable for them if they can sleep in the shallows wif the nose stay above the water to breath

hey man my red-eared slider has a lump on it's left side of her face, whats wrong with her?

my uncle owns a pond he gave my some fish to feed my red ear slider the fish was a blue gillbaby i bite it the used there claws n riped it apart true!
lemoncouch1 2 years ago
can baby sliders eat fishes like that???
jju3 2 years ago
yes but if u give them alot of fish be4 introducing them to the babies they will get scared, and it is alwasy better to feed both pellets and fish, not just one kind of food
cross7fu 2 years ago
isnt sometime bad to have that much water?
since they struggle to swim up for air and how woudl they sleep?
cuz my tank is only filled just above their shell and when they sleep their heads are above water
how does ur turtle sleep?
xSleepy1 2 years ago
sliders r great swimmer, as long as u give them platform and place to rest and take breath u can put as much water as u want
they used to sleep on the platform on the back and right side of the tank, then I added another platform on the left side, u'll see it in my latest turtle video, the water depth on the platform is same as the thickness of the turtles, so they can stay warm in the water and just stick the nose above water while sleeping

cool yesterday i got my slider a mix of both comets and rosy reds there are still a couple of comets still left lol
darkslider989 2 years ago
I keep one comet goldfish as pet fish, it goes really fat now lol
cross7fu 2 years ago
do you feed your sliders comet goldfish? cause i do
darkslider989 2 years ago
just once, not gonna try again anymore...
they are too big for my sliders, they have to tear the fish into many pieces be4 when they eat
i watched a goldfish got snapped on the throat, blood came out beat to beat till it died...so i just feed rosy minnows now, they can usually just swallow them, besides goldfish is not the best choice of feeder fish
cross7fu 2 years ago
what kind of feeder fish do you reccommened?
americanidolkid 2 years ago
I do not recommen goldfish and pleco, coz some breeders use chemicals to make goldfish more colourful, and plecos got hard and pointy scales
cross7fu 2 years ago
Also Cyprinidae(goldfish, carp), Corydoradinae(catfish, pleco, cory) and minnows contains Thiaminase, it will break down vitamin B1 and cause paralysis. And turtles may drown to death. But turtle food has variety of nutritions, so it only applys to turtles that eat fish mostly like snapper and matamata
Tetras, guppies, swordtail, platyfish and mollies has no Thiaminase, they are better feeder fish for turtles
