I agree. Sheryl has proven that she can be quite a capable singer throughout her career. But this song does not demonstrate that ability at all. I love the song, but the "singing" is simply awful. I remember when it first came out, a DJ on the radio commented that Sheryl could not sing. Thank goodness she was not a one-hit wonder. Otherwise, she would not have had a chance to prove that DJ wrong!

The difference between Sheryl Crow and all the young stars (I would guess. I don't know them) who you always see on the tabloids making asses out of themselves is that they seem to be in it more for the fame. Crow seems to love music. Also maybe she has a more solid sense of who she is. And the others are looking for something to make them whole (ie the fame and fortune.) When we lean on things in the material world to make us happy it fails and some us melt down from the sadness. Just a guess.
