  • torch song ....to all the torch songs and the romantics that sing them!

  • Awesome woman. My favorite singer of today. No exceptions! :D

  • ...& class? I'm a gemini-- so there's always 2 sides 2 a story....

  • Unbelievable Chaka !

    Nobody finer...

  • The most amazing song in the world by Rufus and Chaka.

  • This brings back such a memory. Back in 1984 the woman who turned me on the Chaka's music was a USN ensign who worked with my roomie on Okinawa. Ensign Finley was tall, curly blonde, with a fresh peach skin, and she could hit high all the same high notes as Chaka singing along to the album.

    Enchanting

  • Agreed..studio version a little more true to the melody plus hadincredible high notes on "make your mark..." portion of lyric. (Stompin at Savoy has about 4 studio cuts--besides the live songs on there) I love Chaka, but cannot quite get into this version as much as the studio version from 83' --It truly had a 1950s feel, much like "End of A Love Affair" from the 1989 "CK" album.

  • @KwikTee I hear you Tee but listen again as if you never heard the original khan version. IT is scintillating. But I agree the original needs to be posted.

  • Can't compare anyone today to the greats.

The technology has people out there who couldn't hold a note to save their lives.

Things are never going to be the same.

  • could not agree more on the studio version of 'don't go to strangers" Paddey...

    where the fuck is it?

    :)

  • I too prefer the studio version, but this is good too. Just my own preference. Who can possibly compare to Miss Kahn today? No one.

  • Amy Winehouse can

  • @suestev07 Yeah right lol

  • @backofhouseadmin on the "Stompin' at the Savoy" double album ;-)

  • Just AWESOME! ! ! Can't get enough of this.. Another 10*s =)

  • Sarah Vaughan and Chaka have the same slurring technique..both are AWESOME jazz singers.

  • Hit the nail right on the head! She also has Ella's groove! 10*s for this awesome post! =)

So who says Chaka can't sing Jazz? She definitely KHAN! =)

  • This is one of the gifts you have given me in the past that I marvel over every time i play it or hear it played. Thanks!

  • I have always loved how Chaka sings "Don't Go To Strangers". Her adaption of this song is BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!

  • this is a VIRTUOSO performance!!!

  • the scale she did from 4:20 is another reason why she's dubbed as a "perfect contralto voice"..each note in that descending scale is perfectly pitched!!! AWESOME!!!

  • I love the audience's reactions!!!

  • i started to shake at the end

  • when was this she sounds very young here

  • The 80's - THE APOLLO - New York - I think !

  • can you post the studio versions of "dont go to strangers" and "i'll be around" Robbie?? those two songs are among her best jazz Masterpieces!!!

  • @cmelmoneyman no baby...you just too young.hehe...but you'll get there eventually

  • wow!!!! her jazz interpretations are amazingly AWESOME!!!!! genius songstress CHAKA KHAN!!!

  • one of the best jazz pieces ive heard her perform
