It should be noted that Roy Casagranda makes an EPIC WIN point making the corellation between payment for work=payment for time=payment for LIFE. This is an excellent rationale for a progressive income tax in that the rich should pay an EQUAL amount of their lives for the services of civilization that taxes pay for as poor people. After all, if all humans are created equal, then shouldn't we pay an equal amount of our lives for the amenities of civilization, instead of the poor paying more?
Since Capitalism requires maximum participation to sustain itself, those things that increase participation in the system like unions and labor laws that help ensure consumer-level wages to create demand actually HELP Capitalism survive, contrary to what the Tea Party/GOP will tell you. CONSUMERS are the job creators, since they create the demand that motivates hiring to create supply. Concentrating wealth in the hands of the few is what's killing Capitalism.
While Professor Casagranda made some valid points about time spent working to earn money is life itself, he did some mischaracterization of feudalism that seemed to romanticize its social contract the way Marx did, while not mentioning the unjust aspects of feudalism, such as serfdom, boon labor, slavery, etc. The problem with this is that the 1%, if people like the Koch brothers got their way, is to establish a neo-feudal society with its characteristic socio-economic inequity.
