Peter Finch should have won the Emmy he was nominated for here. His portrayal of Rabin was brilliant. His facial expression and body language in this last scene really conveyed to the audience the incedulity and "barely able to believe it" emotions that Rabin must have felt as he saw with his own eyes that the hostages really were free, and home.

A perfect conclusion to a great movie about the most daring rescue operation in history. Only Israel can accomplish one like this. Peter Finch's interpretaion of Rabin in the movie is impeccable and deserves the honours he received for it.
Do not exaggerate. Not only Israel. One year later in october 1977 german GSG-9 special forces released the hostages of the hijacked Lufthansa "Landshut" airplane in Mogadishu (Somalia)
Not to undermine the Mogadishu rescue, but there is no comparison. The logistics of landing 4 planes at night in a hostile country in total darkness as opposed to the cleared to land at Mogadishu cannot be underestimated. Not to mention all the vehicles they were carrying and the destruction of Idi Amin's air force at the same time of the storming.
I'll never forget this scene; Even as the aircraft land the Government officials are still incredulous at the sight of the freed hostages and the success of so perilous an operation.
I wasn't in Israel. I was reffferring to the very dramatic conclusion of the movie.
I remember the actual day well tho. It was all over the news and current affairs programs, there were even a few impromptu street parties here in Sydney.
No doubt there is much I don't know of the Gaza situation. I can only go by what the media tells me, and the war has been presented in a very negative way by most journalists etc.

A perfect conclusion to a great movie about the most daring rescue operation in history. Only Israel can accomplish one like this. Peter Finch's interpretaion of Rabin in the movie is impeccable and deserves the honours he received for it.

Not to undermine the Mogadishu rescue, but there is no comparison. The logistics of landing 4 planes at night in a hostile country in total darkness as opposed to the cleared to land at Mogadishu cannot be underestimated. Not to mention all the vehicles they were carrying and the destruction of Idi Amin's air force at the same time of the storming.

I'll never forget this scene; Even as the aircraft land the Government officials are still incredulous at the sight of the freed hostages and the success of so perilous an operation.
I am moved to tears every time I see it.

I wasn't in Israel. I was reffferring to the very dramatic conclusion of the movie.
I remember the actual day well tho. It was all over the news and current affairs programs, there were even a few impromptu street parties here in Sydney.
It was a very big thing.

Then it must be true. So perhaps it is time for the Israelis to try a different approach. De-islamize the Gazan society. Protect Gazans who leave, Islam, make it easy for them to embrace other religions. Make it safe for them to criticize Islam and so on. What is really needed is to destroy that Islamic society. Killing a lot of people may only make it stronger.

Sorry.I am probably being more critical than I should be about a situation I have not experieced,but everyone seems to be down on Israel at the moment, and that is not a good thing......
There are many issues facing mankind at the moment, terrorism and war (as bad as they are) are diverting us from addressing the world's problems
I really don't see an answer or an end to all this violence.And this distresses me greatly.
I have both Jewish and Muslim friends and regard them all equally.
