  • Why blame the lack of management at GM, the horrible ideas of Rodger Smith? Just blame the Unions. Easy to blame the Unions instead of digging into the real cause of GMs fall, mismanagement. Did the Unions force GM to focus on SUVs and Trucks instead of small cars? Did the Unions force Rodger Smith to spend billions of dollars investing in robots that didnt work? Blame the Unions all you want but the people that ran GM killed it.

  • Cant Blame the Unions 100% on this! The blame is with the High Oil prices and the President dont seemed to interested in doing anything about it! Another thing that needs to happen is we need to stop importing so many goods! Its killing this country! People can go out and buy all this foreign products but in the end its the USA who's going to be hurt!

  • My dad died at the plant in 1990 after 27 years of service at GM. Although not perfect, it was the UAW, who negotiated the pension and benefits that has helped keep my mom alive today. Again, not perfect but, without the UAW, many everyday workerbees and their families would not have a voice at the table today.

  • How sad. I remember when the factory closed in Lyndhurst, NJ. I met a man who used to work at the factory while I was on my way to a job interview. I was young and about to graduate college and remember feeling so sorry that he was out of a job. Who knew what a year and half later, I would be laid off and in his shoes....

  • @TheDaviniumXX no one wants you either....

  • my cousin works for GM in dayton ohio

  • Job Security? Wake up, union turds. Job security is earned, not given. Try WORKING for a good wage, for a change. Skilled workers do not need protection or "organization". I'm smart enough to negotiate my earnings, are you?

  • @armyabn Really? How many days a week do you work? Do you get overtime/holiday/sick pay? Do you work only with adults, no child labor? Do you get health coverage/insurance? Without unions none of these would exist, people like you need to study a little history. Sure there are bad eggs in the unions just like anywhere else but to condemn the whole idea and the advances unions have made over the years is just stupid.

  • @armyabn dont choak on your teabag nutball

  • @TheDaviniumXX According to the local news WDTNTV (their news reports available on YouTube) The Moraine workers received severance packages and many of them were six figures and most were at least $50,000 including one year of continued health benefits along with their prescription drugs which even covers Viagra (the UAW insurance is the largest purchaser of Viagra). These assembly workers have a greedy sense of entitlement just as bad as the executives who mismanaged the company.

  • @SeymourButtz99 According to WDTNTV you dont know WTF your talking about.

  • until the uaw is gone, i am happy with my toyota.

  • @jjjazzycraig This was actually a IUE-CWA plant, not UAW.

  • Typical UAW workers standing around doing NOTHING!! Your own fuckin fault, and thanks unions!!!

  • Moraine Assembly was not a UAW plant.

  • Good to know. I meant unions in general, so yeah

  • @cnocher02 It was a funny thing! I was saying the almost exact thing in my head while watching and I scrolled down and saw your comment! It is true though! It's sad that people are out of work, but the unions don't promote "WORKING". Unions are unproductive, PERIOD! All union heads are in cahoots with corporate brass anyway, and all the little sheep follow these union guys like they can save them from the grim reaper.

  • Yup! Gotta love those obsolete unions who do nothing but serve to break down the companies they infect. Should be obvious now, more than ever.

  • You can thank that crook Gettlefinger and the rest of the UAW thugs.

  • Media propoganda has convinced the country that the USA worker is useless union "thug". So sad the corporations use and control the media so they can excuse them selves for using communist and child labor in aisa, The media propoganda is more complexed than you think,.

  • Damn. They had some hot chicks working there. Buying american didn't do us much good. They used the money to persuede the govt. to make it cheap to manufacture overseas. The profits from us paid for them to build overseas and reduce the workforce here. Thank you U.S. govt. for allowing imports in so cheap.

  • Thank you for building such a great truck!!

  • It amazes me that Americans don't buy American cars and trucks anymore. They are the only vehicles worth owning. I live in Finland and like most of my friends I could never even think of buying jap or european crap even if we have to pay crazy prices for the American cars. The world has turned into a sad place. Hooray for the Detroit three and all the American factories of yesterday that made the greatest cars on earth!

  • They no longer are LOYAL TO THE USA..... THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY.... IF THEY CAN SAVE 7 CENTS THEY WILL SELL THER OWN PARENTS.... WHY DO YOU THINK AMERICA IS IN THE SATE ITS IN? BECAUSE MOST OF ITS PEOPLE ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY!

  • Loyal to the USA? The Government and the unions are to blame for the sad state of affairs...along with the left wing media creating the lies that the products are not good. It is easy to lead the masses, the marxist US government is proof enough.

  • The american car industry went through the rough during the 1980's. Cars were very unreliable, and Mercedes, and Bmw surpassed.

  • Americans buy american cars, it's just that lots of them think foriegn cars are more reliable, and cheaper. They also think German cars have more luxury.

  • i bet you all that worked there dont miss seeing willy jr. everyday do you??

  • Very sad. Good people.

It was not their fault. The media portrayed them making 75 bucks an hour. NOT TRUE.

The made 20-25 bucks an hour. They worked hard. God bless every one of them. I own a GM truck and it is SOLID.

  • With our insurance and retirement and wages, we made about $75/hr. It was nice while it lasted. My wife now pays $120 a week for the family.

  • Comment removed

  • Revolutionary? They built it before Al Gore invented the global warming is going to kill us. If you haven't noticed the EV-1 would have been just as good as the Gwiz in the UK. It didn't even have a back seat, so nobody with a family would buy one.

  • Most productive workers in the world! Next time your at a red light look around at all the AMERICAN SCUM BAGS DRIVING FOREIGHN CARS! THEY HAVE NO LOYALTY TO THE USA! THAY WOULD RATHER FEED A JAPANESE OR KOREAN FANILY THAN AN AMERICAN FAMILY! I DONT CARE IF HONDAS ARE BUILT HERE THE MONEY GOES BACK TO THE HEAD QUARTERS IN JAPAN. THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO LOYALTY,JUST FUCKIN SCUM. IT IS DIGUSTING TO SEE AMERICANS DRIVING FORIEGHN CARS, SCUM BAG SLOBS!

  • A lot of your so called Forieghn? cars are made in the USA and sold here.

  • 9sec......What brand of shoes do you wear?

  • I go out of my way to try and buy AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS, SOME THINGS ARE TOUGH TO FIND ANYMORE. CARS/TRUCKS ARE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUPORT YOUR OWN COUNTRY! OR GET THE FUCK OUT OF IT. WHAT THE LOOSERS DRIVING FOREIGHN CARS DONT KNOW IS, WE ALL THINK THEY ARE ASSHOLES! NOT JUST ME ASK AROUND. SCUM BAG AMERICANS BUY NEW FOREIGHN CARS. END OF SUBJECT!

  • This country was built on blue collar workers look at what the rich have done to this country!

  • Wheres these peoples bailout money Where s Dayton Ohios Money Are government only takes care of big corporate monoply america and China!

  • dayton is well into looking like a 3rd world russia. and getting worse, cooper tire right next to gm moraine closed down also if you didnt know. it is very spooky to see and sad. crime rate nuts

  • Thanks to the free trade agreement Walmart ,Big corporations and pure evil greed this is the future of the united states like Obama says we are not a country of christianity. And this is the result!

  • F'ing sad sight what's happening to this country. I watched the video and it's just regular folks like you and me that probably did their best and now it's over for them. You know what's worse, there ain't no serious solution to this, no real fix. So please, take it easy on the American workers, even if you don't like GM or how the whole thing is going down.

  • Id give anything to get my job back at that place.Such a depressing sight to drive down 741 and see moraine empty.

  • GM isn't paying their bonds on June 1, 2009.. they are eithe bk then or have a deal wioth thie rgreedy bondholders.. good luck!

severence pay, pensions , healthcare.. it's all on the line.. guess you should have been bankers.. then youd be getting bonuses for having never done anything productive.

  • I thInk i `Ve gto Smeothing wrogn wth Em ..U shldou not be embrrsseda abtou it ...I am making a reading and speaking programme so that everyome with lnaguage procesing needs can learn to read . Round me is alibrary to do it and in my head is free and relief for all ...so don`t look at the dust on my shoes ...try `em and walk a mile in them .

  • So sorry ..from AUckland NEW ZEalaNd

  • Disclaimer: Not everyone from New Zealand write like this person. Some of us realise that the capital letter preceeds a name or the word at the beginning of a sentence.

Bellpawt, apologies if you have cerebral palsy and struggle with the shift key!

  • You who say "F*** GM," i agree, but it's not the workers fault it closed. The plant backed out on contracts and other shit. You all who talk like your high and mighty and don't know anything! Do you have any idea how many people were affected, and how much lives changed. This plant was one of the few places that gave so many people jobs. Now you have thousands UNEMPLOYED with no fault of their. So don't you even begin to say shit like you know what is going on.

  • If GM built better vehicles and had better customer service, none of this would have happened....

    So long GM....$35.00

Hello - would you like fries with that sir? $8.75

  • my uncle worked there b4 he got the bail out. now he cant find a job and with a new house and 3 car payments and 2 kids it'll be tough.

  • Im so sorry, i wish ur uncle all the best, have a great new year.

  • thnx

  • That is, after I sobered up.

  • I'd file a grievance with the union, that would show gm.

  • Thank you so much for putting this video together. My husband worked at the plant for 11 years...took the buyout in july. My dad retired from the plant 3 years ago. I never in my wildest dreams imagined the moraine plant closing its doors. Its a devestating loss for this community and an even bigger heart break for the workers, and the families...past and present

  • oh heaven forbid u guys might have to get a college education! OH NO!

  • bp you know absolutly nothing. Those people worked their asses off. Trust me when i tell you that those people are very intelligent. THey bust their asses to build the truck that you people put your families in. I worked the as college help and you couldnt even begin to imagine what they do on a daily basis. Get you facts straight dumbass

  • Tell em

  • Your a very sick person...HOW DARE YOU !!!!

  • some hot looking chicks worked there

  • where? I didn't see one

  • Doctors charge too much. Lawyers charge too much. Insurance companies charge too much. Utilities charge too much. Colleges charge too much. Drug companies charge too much. All those services that make a modern society modern charge too much. They don't produce a solid, tangible product. They take advantage of those who do. Why don't those damned conservatives go after the aforementioned rip-offs in their rabid, frothing at the mouth attacks against ordinary Americans.

  • i tell you what when you have to work 12hrs a day 6 days a week just so i can afford health insurance for me and my wife and set aside enough money for my retirement because i do not have a gravy pension then we can talk. sorry if i pissed you off just my inaccurate opinion.

  • if they're making twice as much as you you must make minimum wage...which probably involves no manual labor

  • lol

  • Hey Grazz, Sounds like you need to "Get a real job" if you are struggling so hard... The people affected by this plant closing are highly skilled - the line jobs are very tough, not to mention the problem solving aspects of thier teams. Try to do the same exact sequence of steps 500+ times in 8 hours with no defects, it ain't easy by any means! The problem they have is the limited job market for this skill set, given the decline of US manufacturing. I hope you and they can find good jobs!

  • Yeah nice one mate try the exact sequence op steps 500 times in eight hours .From a UK GM worker

  • TOILED?! the line workers make twice as much as i do i bust my ass for what i make and i could be fired at any given moment because i have do not have a union watching out for my best interests. but when a factory shuts down holy crap the government needs to give gm a loan so we can keep making cars that i cant afford.

  • Your a sorry ass hole too!!

Do you know how many jobs were lost? DO YOU?

Your a sorry son of a bitch...

A plant closes and people are upset because they dont have a job, its been there forever....THERE GOES ANOTHER AMERICAN MADE ITEM!!

YOU CANT PUT YOURSELF IN ANYONES SHOES WHO WORKED THERE SO YOU WOULDNT UNDERSTAND

  • the gravy train ends! GET A REAL JOB

  • Gravy train??? What do you know??? What is it that you do for a living because please don't even sit there a compare some desk job to what these people do everyday. You wouldn't be acle to hack in a place like Moraine Assembly.

  • A lovely job on that video. Thank you for making it. I have never worked there but I have gotten to know some of the terrific people who work there and who will be there till the last day. Good luck to everyone, you will have a good future because you have guts, determination and a great work ethic.

  • A great video ,and as a GM worker from the other side of the world(Australia), I feel sorry for all you folk!, lets hope that the U.S. Government wakes up before its too late for not only GM,but for ford and chrysler. If the Government dont bail out the big 3 automakers you might as well say that the whole country will be screwed! ...Just consider the worldwide implications of the USA losing its biggest industry sector, which employs millions of hard working people.

I just hate to think about it!

  • damn it hurts to see anything close

  • omg that song hits it right in the heart...damn this is sad hope all is well with everyone who is in a hard place right now!!!!

  • nice video, I recognize so many people, even though I hated management and some of the jobs, I will miss so many great people who have been like my second family! You did a good job with this Kim, Mike from Chassis 3, B crew, last job worked, the brake deck;-)

  • Man, It hits home when you look back at your friends and coworkers after hearing the news from last week... I was lucky, I got out of Moraine last year before the fall. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the IUE members who will face hardship as a result of poor decisions by GM. Great pics of the GA crowd, I miss working with those men and women - hard working people making a great product. Even though I work for, um, Brand X now, I still have a Trailblazer SS... Best of luck to all!

  • *****

    Awesome tribute.

We are going through the same at

Newark Assembly Plant in Newark, Delaware.

    Keep The Faith!

  • That was well done.....including the goofy pose I had. Loved working there and sorry to see it close down. Dayton isn't the town it once was. It's sad to see it wither in front of us

  • i worked at plant! lots of wierd people! GM was good to all of us but we must move on!
