This is in line with every dance class I've ever seen teaching West African dance from Guinea. Every master teacher I've seen teach would never be so harsh with their comments as some of you have. I think this is a great referance. If you had watched more of the videos she refers to this and to the dance being a Doundounba type of dance.
Wow! I'm sorry to have stumbled upon comments with such discontent to this series. I come across the same types of arguments in belly dancing studies. All I know is, it's dancing, and it feels good to do. If there are people who are hung up on titles, try saying "African-style, or Middle Eastern-style" dancing. May that can work as a compromise. Peace & Blessings!
@MTurtle13 I agree. And sometimes I think people are so critical of other people because their just happy that they know something and wait for any excuse to spout their "knowledge." It's childish. An adult would be more respectful and would know when it was appropriate or not. Youtube is full of these jerks. Youtube would so much better without comments.
She is sharing what she knows and what she knows is something that was taught to her form someone from west africa. She is doing a great job and people need to learn how to appreciate people's creative and artistic abilities without criticizing. Remember someone from the continent of africa taught this to us first.
Dont think its that great but, leave the woman alone she is trying her thing at least. For her, she feels she is good. Also - you surely dont expect her to dance every African dance style do you? How long would that take, within all the countries and nations in the continent? If she does not dance them, does not mean she does not know them.
This is from western Africa and it goes along with the drums such as djembe and dununs. The music and dance are really powerfull, it's a beautiful culture!!
Before writing all kinds of bullshit here, please, try to learn something usefull first.
@bettinamd The reason why we are writing is because we have knowledge, and we know crap when we see it. The difference is that in your limited knowledge, after you hear on little thing, you think you know everything.
i am not an expert in african dance styles but i totally agree with these comments... she does not say what style of african dance these moves are from.
this...no you.. are sucha joke. but i guess ur getting paid for making a mockery out of alll ''traditional'' african dance moves? ....were did you get your sources from.
@layowilliams the problem is that american people general call a mix of steps "african dance". what they forget is that africa is composed of many countries and in the same country you can find several nations, cultures and music. therefore, the dances vary a lot from a country to another AND, within the same country, from a region to another. i.e. sabar is danced in senegal, mutuashi in congo and it is not the same steps, music or groove...
It does look like the scene from "Beneath the Planet of the Apes," but in the movie they danced better & their mouths weren't full of mumbo jumbo coon gumbo.
Why is everyone so harsh to her.......
