Hi Jer I didn't realise what the significance of k6tpl was until now - it is your call sign! I'm not an amateur radio nut per se but I do know that without amateur radio enthusiast Hollywood actress Hedy Lamarr and her invention of spread spectrum we would not have broadband internet and you tube would be a dream in some sci-fi pulp novel. So good luck to all the amateur radio enthusiasts around the world who keep the spirit of Hedy Lamarr alive. Cheers for now, Harry (Ruff Ruff)
Profound Radio History! Harry much in electronics would not be here today if it were not for Amateur Radio. Sad that they are making the licenses so easy to obtain. Lacking the knowledge could really stop the advances being made by this great hobby!
No offense Jer. It's a common mistake by many. And you are so right. Spelling is not a major thing in Radio. Remember if the first letter and the last letter are in the word, anyone can read it. Keep on goin' my friend.
Well check this out three dits four dits two dits Dah Happy Birthday RAW RAW RAW. More Morse code to add to your knowledge base. Test tomorrow! That would be right in there with that SOS.
There was a time that I could receive CW at plus 21 words per minute! Today even with the super keyer Jer is able to limp along at around 15 words per minute!
Dad along with an Uncle were both somewhat into Amatuer Radio. What really did it for me was the morse code. My dad was a radio man in the US Navy. Korean war. I still have his flag cards. I do wish I could find or remember his Amatuer Radio call numbers. :)
There's a site QRZ follewd by a period and a common three letter extension that will get you name search or call letter search results for just such a thing.
too bad you did not stick around til it got cooler ... about 1:30 -2:00 am when we had the wind gusts kick up and topple the antenna trailer... then the generator ran out of gas ... a truly eventful night
If only I would have been there this video could have been much more dramatic! Was anyone in the antenna Trailer when it toppled over? Bet that got every ones attention! 73 Jer
The trick to not having too many vehicles parked in the yard is to trade them in when you purchase a different one. Here is another novel idea, try putting them up for sell. Woof, Woof, Woof.
Fascinating field trip. And it's good to see someone still using Morse Code. I even barely remember some of it. To my knowledge, it's no longer a requirement for a license, is it?
No Code is no longer required for a Amateur license. And the test questions are readily available on line. Not near as complex as it was a few years back!
It must be cool to be able to go to something like this with your hobby being radio. My hobby is fashion all I can do is spend an extortionate amount of money on magazines and keep praying for millions so I can get into fashion shows x]
Yes and it is all done using emergency power! yet with the cost of gas we should be looking at another Plan to power that equipment! Just thought"What if they had a War and no body could afford to buy the gas" Sorry Rob it is very hot here and it seems to screwing wioth my thinking!
That is neat! Did they talk in code so you didn't know what they were saying? I use to say outside in code so the dog would not freak out. But after a few days the dog knew outside in code! So it didn't work!
This is strange but you really do sound like Mr. Rogers and shake! Use that button that says stabilizer. Yet TPL is Old and unstable. So the Safety Patrol will let it slide. However while the air raid siren was sounding t word the end of the video you guys did miss that!
Thanks! I hope that we are never needed for that but there have been times that we have really been needed. I remember years back with that giant earthquake in Alaska "The only communication between the mainland and Alaska was Amateur Radio." A very busy busy few days>
You Know Elvis Sub Glass singing Dude! It maybe my calling! Speaking of calling I am waiting for a call from CBS any day "May lightening strike if I tell a lie" Everyone run for your lives and don't stand near antennas!

I wish I knew morse code. My Father had to learn it when in WWII as a Radio man in the Pacific. Another good one by my friend Jer.
Just wish one thing. And this is for everyone out there. The word for not being a professional is not amatuer. It's AMATEUR.
Maybe you can do a video on spelling next, my good friend from the Great North West.
