The character of George O'malley was really pathetic! I bet the writers wanted to humiliate him, and who better than Alex for the job - if I'd been in his place, I'd really have smashed George's pathetic little head, even if it got me kicked out of the surgical program

George was not moping FYI- he was feeling intense guilt for taking advantage of his friend during her moment of need (sleeping with Mer instead of comforting her). Fast forward to season 3 for the reference (George admits as much).

i love alex, he's my fave character, but i was soo pissed he took his anger out on george. he was pissed about izzie breaking up with him, (meaning he actually really does care about her, its all in his face s2 finale) and he took it out on george. but this is why i love alex lol, hes a pretty complex character.

Alex shouldn't have taken his anger out on George but in all fairness, George had it coming to him. He moped way too much over Meredith when he was equally to blame. After all, it takes two to tango.

That was an example of displaced anger.

Alex was mad becouse Izzy was falling for Denny. He took it out on George.

i agree with that, but also think about how Alex grew up with an abusive father. he could be saying something that his father kinda said to him when he was younger, or how alex could be angry at himself for being weak as a kid, blaming himself. lots of things.
