Maybe I missed it in the comments but what cubic inch is the motor? I have a 350 and would like to reach 500 hp but don't know whether to build the 350 or go with a 383 stroker
its a 383. 500 hp with a 350 might be on the limit, you will get some reduced streetability. I would go for a strocker kit to get the 383 cubic inched. Then add all roller valve train a some very good cylinder heads.
The sounds is a result of all modifications. However the main components that affects the sound is the exhaust system and the cam shaft. Also the relatively high compression ratio (10.5:1) have some effect.
I did full overhaul of the rear end with new gears, half shafts, bearings etc. However they were pritty standard parts, nothing special. Transmission is standard, except 10 inch turbine. Next thing would be an updated trannny with 4 speed automatic. Brakes should also be upgraded
thanks for the reply, I have a 81 C3 with a 383 TPI stroker and 268H comp cam, but have been worried about putting too much power through the stock transmission, it is great news to see it can hold what you are putting through it.
I will tune for my power this summer, since I have been holding back worried about the transmission holding up...
if you have a th350 tranny it is a very robust and can handle up 600 hp but ofcource it will not last too long if driven very hard. for the rear end is a bit on the limit with 500 hp, depends how you drive it. It must be in good condition. And please remember with this amount of power its very slippery with standard tires which helps to keep the transmission without bracing. If you start to upgrade to racing tires to improve the grip I think it might bee to much for this transmission to handle.
I have exactly those heads. I can only say good about them, you will not regret. I was going to buy the next cam bigger (288) but it was not available at that time. That would have been even better. However I have 1.6 rocker so the lift is the same as 288 but with less duration. If you check my cam installation video you will see the complete enginespec at the end.
I replaced the video from yesterday with this one in better quality. Please click on the "watch in high quality" text and full screen button in the right lower corner of the video. I will also make a separate video with some pictures from the engine during overhaul explaining the different components
Very, Very Nice
