First, Australians do not celebrate Halloween, Halloween is celebrated in Japan far more than it is in Australia and alcohol consumption and public drunkenness on trains is far higher in japanese salarymen at peak hour than it is here in OZ. Second, I have not condoned the Yamanote party for the reasons you stated. Third, the party was never illegal, it just wasn't sanctioned.

Iteresting video, some good points and some not so good. What it boils down to is respect for the people around you which in Japan, is very important. Dave and Victor, and the English teaching bunch have LOTS of time on their hands, but if they were doing 14 hr workdays like you mentioned, things would be much different. I like to party, in the right place and time, and this YHT fails on both counts. If Dave would spend more time studying Japanese then making videos he'd be a lot more wiser.

@Ammo150 Another person who has not bothered to watch the whole thing. First, Australians do not celebrate Halloween, Halloween is celebrated in Japan far more than it is in Australia and alcohol consumption and public drunkenness on trains is far higher in japanese salarymen at peak hour than it is here in OZ. Second, I have not condoned the Yamanote party for the reasons you stated. Third, the party was never illegal, it just wasn't sanctioned.

Let me point out where you are wrong. 1, I do not live in Japan. 2, I do all I can when in Japan to be respectful and use the Japanese language (no matter how bad I am at it). 3, I do not go out on public transport fall down drunk 4, All of my gaijin and half gaijin friends in Japan speak almost fluent Japanese.

@novajoke Being drunk on public transport no matter who you are is disrespectful and dangerous but at least they are not behind the wheel of a car driving through the streets. I really don't see what is so interesting about me stating that I have seen more drunk salarymen in japan than at home. And yes, i do question why Yamanote halloween goers are despised for there 1 hour a year while salarymen are put up with 365 days a year. Oh wait, they are Japanese so their public drunkenness is ok.

@novajoke Because in Australia salarymen get fired from their jobs if they get that drunk after work. A Japanese salaryman working in Australia would not be seen drunk on a train because he would have the same employment contract as the Australian salaryman.

Yes, I disagree on the misfit label. The gaijin I know in Japan are there because they wanted to experience life in Japan, not to run from their home land. They teach English because there is a need for them to do so, if the schools didn't exist then there would be no teachers. I am on neither side of the debate when it comes to Yamanote. If JR and the Police wanted it stopped then I would have no problem with that. It looks like that was the case so so be it. No skin off my nose.

Hey what's wrong with criticizing "misfits" in Japan? Yes they are "misfits". I only met few that are genuine about teaching Eikaiwa and have a "real" job in Japan. Yeah they are foreigners so criticizing their actions are considered as "racist"?? Like I've said, I need to work on my mcEikaiwa "listening" skills. I don't think Halloween on Yamanote Line will end though. They will find new tactics to have celebration in my opinion.

Ok. I've generalized too much but I've seen enough "misfits" to believe that these people are up for no good. You have to remember I'm Japanese with extensive living in overseas so it's really funny from my point of view :-)
I'm afraid that incident in Yamanote just gave Japanese Nationalists heads up. They can use this incident to their advantage.

I really don't see why you would keep going on about Eikaiwa schools in an attempt to insult me. I don't teach English anywhere so trying to label me as a McEikaiwa clown or Nova loser is really kind of pointless don't you think. And what does New Zealand celebrating halloween got to do with Australia? And in my experience Japanese people keep their feelings bottled from everyone, even other Japanese until they feel the relationship is solid enough to take the truth. Thats a good thing I think.

I still don't think anyone is trying to be disrespectfull with the party but yeah, you make a good point in regard to needing to be far more respectfull in Japan than you would be at home. And of course, there is a time and a place for everything. Thats what the last part of this video was talking about.

Iteresting video, some good points and some not so good. What it boils down to is respect for the people around you which in Japan, is very important. Dave and Victor, and the English teaching bunch have LOTS of time on their hands, but if they were doing 14 hr workdays like you mentioned, things would be much different. I like to party, in the right place and time, and this YHT fails on both counts. If Dave would spend more time studying Japanese then making videos he'd be a lot more wiser.
