Birds do not 'see' the glass, but instead respond to reflections of sky and vegetation on the glass, seeing a tree to land on or a flight path to the sky.
"The way to make glass visible to birds is to create visual markers on the outside of the glass, alerting them to the presence of a solid object.
i had a bird like that who was obsessed with getting into my house. in the early morning he would fly around my house doing that to ALL of the windows
the bird does this because it sees its reflection and cardinals are exteremely territorial. id you shade the window so thet there is no refletion from the outside it will prevent this. doing it from the inside of the window however will not work you have to do it from the outside!
no its because the bird thinks theres another bird in his territory. this is b/c of the reflection... same prob with me right now, dumb robin. im planning to shoot it :P
This is the fifth year a song sparrow has been hitting our window. He starts mid-March and
finishes mid-August. The problem is that this is his/her nesting territory, sees his reflection as an intruder, and is attacking it. The other day, he somehow got in the house and one of the cats took most of his tail feathers off and left him a bit roughed-up. He sat recovering in a nearby tree for most of the day, and the next day, he was at it again. We don't even hear him anymore.
That was strange...We've got one too, it started like 7 AM and it kept flying towards the window, also a robin...It have been 2 days now...It's really crazy...I would like to know what they're doing too!
It's because cardinals are territorial. He sees himself and thinks it's another bird so he's trying to attack it. I've got one in my yard that does the same thing.
lmfao al the stories a bird was doign that to my window today over and over it got inside the house and well it is kinda sad my cat ran up brabbed it and ate it
I've had a cardinal doing that at my house for SIX YEARS. This year he and his mate built a nest about three feet from the window and they have two chicks. I was rather hoping his genes wouldn't make it into the next generation. Sigh.
I have a bird doing the same thing at my house. He also attakcs our truck windows and mirrors lol. And it's been back to do it everyday for over a week, it's driving me mad.
i had a mourning dove that did the same thing to my back window.. over and over .. for like 1/2 hour. too funny !! if they got hurt.. they would stop ,so its not sad.. its just funny

its mating season probally and they see the reflection of them selves in the window and thinking its a intruder since robins are very territorial

If the room was brightly lit (not saying you should do that for the bird all year long) it would stop.
