@Ketchme17 No. You should stick to water based foundations etc because if you use oil based products, you are putting more oils on your skin! Understand?
@XLadyOX But he's saying not to combine oils with waters. If I used water based products, they wouldn't stay on my skin since my skin is oily (according to what he is saying).
@Ketchme17 No, you're missing the point -__-. He's talking about oily moisturizers and foundations, NOT SKIN. If people have oily skin, they should AVOID oily moisturizers, therefore oily foundations as well. You should stick to water base.
@mimirr14 Well, he was basing his point off of chemistry which says that oil and water doesn't mix. That would lead me to believe that water based foundations would not stay well on oily the skin.
@Ketchme17 He never mentioned to avoid it if you have oily skin. Besides, I'm sure everyone produces a certain level of oil, so it wouldn't make sense for him to be referring to skin types.
This is a very gud tip.... but one question and i hope you manage to read this....
What if you sweat a lot throughout the day due to hot climates??.... Any additional tips to reduce foundation oxidizing and looking patchy on the face?....Thanks
what if you have oily skin does a water base foundation work or last 16 hours like the bottle says... what kind of foundation should ppl use if they have oily skin.. water base foundation or what can people use to keep it on longer
please can u suggest me some nice primers I can use with occ foundations, that i am gonna use with a sponge/brush n not with an airbrush system.......please people thumbs up so wayne can notice it...
@angiefinn69 if oil is the first ingredient then it is an oil-based foundation. If water is the first ingredient then it is an water-based foundation.
thank you so much for this video i cant believe how much it has helped i am guilty of everything you said not to do cleanse tone eye cream moisturise prime the foundation and wondered why my makeup looked good when i did it then 2 hours later it looked shocking thank you
youtube is finally good for something, thank you so much for your videos, i feel a bit silly to admit ive done sooo many of the things you've told us not to haha
this was great. I never thought about this way. So so so simple, thanks a million. You just saved me tons of money and frustration. Thanks again. Really enjoy your male perspective on makeup :)
I tried what you said, looked at what base my lotions and make ups are. Because I do have that problem at work, it starts running off and looking funny. I use Clinique washes, lotions, and treatments, and I use Make Up For Ever foundation, Clinique concealer and powder. But all of them are water based. And it still runs.. So I'm very confused. Those products cost A LOT and I don't want to spend so much again. Help me please!
Thankyou! I was going to get Yaby liquid foundations for my pro kit and didn't know if they needed a silicone based primer (they are silicone based), but you just told me! Thanks :D
Thank you so much for this video! A wealth of information.. I subscribed today. I am pleased with your professional, well put together videos, also you are so personable.
Goss, thank you so much. I've been wearing a water based primer and foundation on my dry skin, but this has all been going over a heavy moisturizer (i'm recoiling at the "essential oils" description as I read it now) and promptly melting off my face. Looks like it's time to change up that step!!! Thanks again. Your videos are indispensable.
a quick way of knowing weather your foundation is water or oil based is to put a small amount on our finger and try to rinse it with water, right? If it rinses it is water based, if not, oil based.
I am now officially going to Wayne's School of Makeup...your tips are on point. They make so much sense, things we makeup junkies never knew or thought of. Starting tomorrow, I will start class and view all your videos...10 a day. After that and with much practice...I will be a pro and ready to go apply at MAC as a MUA. All thanks to you...wish me luck!! I just adore you.
I love you, WAYNE! You keep your videos short, simple, yet to the point! I could watch your videos all day.....I actually do! Keep up the GREAT work!!!
love u i always had thought it was kinda weird how much products go on the face before ur makeup did but still did cause everyone said too thank you thank you thank you
I'm so happy to have found you! I had been told for my oily skin to apply a water based cream before foundation so it absorbed the cream and not my foundation, of course this did not work. I feel sad and foolish now but also happy that you explained this (one last time)! Lol!
Great video, I love how you look so frustrated saying these things lol, I have oily skin and right when you said oil and water don't mix I felt stupid and ran to check my foundation as well as my moisturizer..ha!
what is the best foundation for oily skin? you talked about dry skin but my problem is that my make up melts away after my skin gets oily throughout the day
Hey Wayne these are all good tips but my makeup always get onto my clothes especially my collar coat or shirt and when I hug my husband it gets onto his shirts. Do you have any tips on makeup not smearing onto clothes.
What is the difference between oil-based, water-based and silicone foundation? Or what kind would be good for what skin type? That should be your next video.
I know you have made mention of this subject often, but I have been waiting on one thing you had not previously mentioned. How do you tell if your moisturizer or foundation is oil based or water based? Thank you for answering that. It seems like an obvious answer, but it totally isn't to the average person. Thank you for clarifying!
@mtx019 I know. I was saying in previous videos he had not specified and that in this video he had and that it was helpful. If you are confused, please reread my comment above. Thank you.
So, I have CHRONIC dry skin, and have to moisturise before foundation so I don't look like a monster, would you suggest using a oil based foundation (and if so which one?) to go with my oil based moisturiser? Much love!
Thanks so much for repeating this tip, I've finally learned something that I didn't already know. Out of all the Makeup books and magazine articles I've read, and videos I've watched, there's never been a mention of this. I must have just been lucky......I compared the ingredients in the foundations that I use, to the primers I apply underneath them and they're all compatible ! Thanks to you, when I try a new foundation in the future, I'll be sure to check to make sure they are too !
I love nothing more than sitting back with a coffee watching your videos - I seem to learn something new and extremely useful every day! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent.
Can I use makeup Clinique repairwear (they wrote there it's oil free) with La roche posay rosaliac uv riche as a base? Does La roche is good as a base? I have a dry skin
Very informative! I have always wondered about that. I only wear a light moisturizer or an oil-free sunblock before applying foundation and my (very cheap) foundation lasts all day. But I have friends who have far less oily skin, wear primers and over-priced foundations and they complain that they must reapply throughout the day and evening. Now I know why.
@englishgirl1988 Check the packaging (if you still have it) or the page the product is featured on the company websites, all ingredients lists and "oil-free" features should be listed! Sorry but I don't own any of the products you're asking for..a simple check on their sites would be best to be sure.
Love your posts. Always learning. I am a airbrush make-up user, currently dinair and my skin type is oily. Is there a primer you might recommend to help the foundation last longer? I am also considering Kett Hydro after your recommendation so how do I best prep my skin?
I had a DOH! moment while watching this video lol. So simple and purely common sense lol
My foundation never lasts I would apply it with whatever method mornings before school and it would disappear by noon. this advice coupled with your video on how to apply powder with a powder puff rather than a brush has noticeably improved the longevity and texture of my foundation. thanks!
I know it's off topic but my eyes get really watery so it gets hard for my eye makeup to stay longer I use nars eye primer but it smudges. Also when I put my foundation around my nose and I sneeze my foundation wipes off! Wat do you suggest? Thanks xoxo
what is your view on BB creams...they seem to be getting alot of talk.I know they are supposed to be "all in one"...they seem thick, but i just dont see how one shade could match everyone?would you apply a foundation over a bb cream?
I am very sensitive to sunscreens...only have been able to find one or two that doesn't irritate my skin or cause breakouts. However,it is not a primer and is quite slick looking (Kate Somerville serum sunscreen spf 55).So,would using a primer or sunscreen be better? i think spf for the health of my skin, but it does feel like my smashbox primer helps deslick my combo-dry skin prior to fpoundation.I usually use a vit c serum first, moisturizer if needed,spf,primer...seems like too much?

This makes so much sense!! Haha..when you were saying about a primer with SPF the Clinique City Block is a primer with SPF 40 or the Sheer City Block with SPF 15.. You probably know that already but just for other people too. Love your videos! Really helpful! :)
I absolutely never knew that. I have oily skin (mostly) and only moisturize at bedtime. In the AM I cleanse, but I do use a primer. I'm now going to check it it's loaded with oil. Or if my foundation is. This is great news because my foundation never, ever lasts, and it's always sliding off. I DO dab on Vichy dermablend but isn't that designed to stay pretty put? I'm going to be reading labels now for sure and make wiser choices. Ditto Wayne, you need your own makeup line. I'll buy from you!
This makes so much sense to me! I've been searching about why my concealer creases even when I put primer under my eyes and NEVER thought that it was because I always put moisturizer before I do my makeup, THX! I didn't even consider it. Duh!
@muimui150x Powder mineral makeup does not contain oil or water, it is mineral based. Mineral makeup is best for normal to oily skin as it looks more natural after it has absorbed sebum. Also, you do not have to worry about mineral makeup sliding off your face.
This is soooooooo smart. Thank you for the video. I would never have thought of that "like to like" but you are so right. I have also always noticed that my makeup applies much better and stays on when I do less skin care and let it wait 5-10 min to soak in before I do my foundation. I think that is why I always think it looks better when I do my own makeup instead of MAC, because they always load up the moisturizer first.
I just found this site today and I love it! Used to use model in a bottle everyday for about 2 to 3 years. I had noticed the changes in my skin, but it worked so well I kept using. Well I ran out and no longer needed everday I wasn't wearing makeup as much and I do see a difference in my skin. What do we do about transferance for everyday wear I hate makeup on my white clothes. I was buying it from a popular retail TV show and they stop selling I wondered why, but I guess now I know.
Your hair is nice in this video

WOW, quality advice.

Thanks xoxo

Do I have to use foundation as a base? I never do. I put moisturizer on my face one or two hours before I apply my powder.

what is your view on BB creams...they seem to be getting alot of talk.I know they are supposed to be "all in one"...they seem thick, but i just dont see how one shade could match everyone?would you apply a foundation over a bb cream?

Well said.

Duh!

would powder mineral makeup be oil or water based?
muimui150x 9 months ago 6
@muimui150x Powder mineral makeup does not contain oil or water, it is mineral based. Mineral makeup is best for normal to oily skin as it looks more natural after it has absorbed sebum. Also, you do not have to worry about mineral makeup sliding off your face.

@muimui150x .. It's a powder lol I don't think so
It's dry xD

@muimui150x powder is powder but if the first ingredient is aqua water then its water based

It's just like painting a room. You can't go in with an acrylic paint over an oil based paint! You always have such good sense Wayne. :)
