I saved enough to quit my full time job and get into full time photography. I've been at it part-time, doing fashion shows, red carpets and weddings. Now, I'm ready to purchase new NIKON equip. I love the tips you give Mr. Harrison. Thanks so much!
"Photographers" commenting here something like "why use a full-frame when you're using a teleconverter?" doesn't know what they are saying. Shame, a lot of "photographers" knows little but talks too much.
Anyway, great video! I like this photographer (Frazer H.)! And Getty Images (as a client) is no joke. They demand high-quality photos for their market. That's why a full-frame sensor is an advantage (even better if you have a medium format).
I don't know if anyone's already said this, but some photographers are now blaming the iTTL. Apparently (I don't know I shoot Canon), but people are saying that if you stick it in manual, up to 1/16 or 1/8th of a power, then you can fire off hundreds of frames and its fine, but as soon as you use iTTL even for just fill in, it hits this overheating point.. so maybe manual's the way forward? Just some food for thought...
okay now i love to watch these videosfor frazer and katy winn but why did he change? and can you post a video of katy winn with her ne nikon gear to? because i know for a fact that she changed also and was it the whole company that changed to nikon (getty images) thanks
@ossme As a staffer gear is provided and the photographer has the choice of the Camera. This wasn't a Getty Images World Wide Switch more of a if you like it you have the choice. The Mk3 was a problem and i'm sure Canon would agree it wasn't their most successful model. But in the professional world if you are lucky enough to be given a choice, then Nikon was the way to go at that time with the D3 over the Mk 3. The trade off been not been able to switch back if you didnt like it.
thus no Mk4 for me. It was a gamble, i personally always loved canon products. But I got substantial use out of the D3 before the Mk 4 was released and while not been a perfectly smooth ride, I have seen a vast improvement in the sharpness, consistency of exposure and overall quality. So I can't really complain too much but then I wouldn't be british if I didn't have something to whine about. Those Mk 4 users I have spoken to seem to be happy but aren't really shouting aobut it too loudly.
I just wanted to point out that Canon introduced their first full-frame dslr in 2002 with the EOS-1Ds, while Nikon users had to wait until 2007 to see their first full-frame dslr with the D3. Canon is 5 years ahead of Nikon with this feature. So a switch to Nikon is not a switch to full-frame, only a switch to less-tested technology.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a D3, D3s, or D3x. I'm sure they're spectacular. But Canon did have full-frame first.
@neverhood311 so canon did it first who cares. The Nikon D3, D3X and D3S are the absolute best camera's in the world. Canon beats Nikon to to the punch with intros but Nikon improves most of the features (they get it first once in a while). Rather have great optics and noise reduction plus a pretty fast shooting speed than a god fast camera with some so-so lenses and ok NR
@Capesports4 The only reason I bring it up is that the way he said 'a switch to the Nikon is a switch to full-frame' almost sounded as though he was saying that Nikon was the only one with full-frame. That's all I'm saying.
@neverhood311 england is the cradle of football but they suck at it :) so your point is not valid :p one day am dreaming of getting like his camera... now i have a d90
@neverhood311 u realize full-frame is film sized, right? and u DO realize that nikon has been making cameras longer than canon, right? so because canon made a full frame digital before nikon that makes theirs better? not quite a very sound argument. FX/full frame isn't a feature, it's a format. autofocus and matrix metering and processors and AF speed are features. get ur vocab straight
When you shoot close to 200 fashion shows a year which all have different length runways you will soon discover why you need a converter. Nikon have the 1.4 is too short. 1.7 is perfect it gets you back to the length you need to keep a model in the centre of a Runway when they come out. Not only that a converter can be Very useful when shooting candids. IT has done this job for 25 years and IT knows what IT is taking about. and yes you do loose a bit of quality but IT is worth IT.
@dugapt Is there a rule that you can't use a teleconverter on a full-frame camera? The use of that 1.7 teleconverter is to add additional magnification of the glass plus with the use of the great resolution of the full-frame sensor rather than a sensor cropped image.
And ? So what if he feels a need to use a 1.7 TC? He actually states the reason, Canon 1Ds aren't full frames, which makes them a but out of place, however Nikon are full frame, so in occasion you would need a 1.7x TC for the 70-200 if you want the reach of the 70-200 on a Canon 1D3 for that matter.
@CopperwaiteIdeals Not really a canon bag they just put their logo on it it is a think tank Glass Taxi whic h canon cps gave out just before i made the switch,,,And yes it is funny that i also have canon straps on the Nikon...waste not want not.
i love being british, we hate everything haha. but seriously really useful info on the equipment definitely going to influence future choices. Thanks!
Firstly..Yes you can switch it off on the flash.Bad news is the Flash overrides it anyway and will shut down once it hits a max temp. IVE HAD THIS FLASH SHUT OFF AFTER 30 FLASHES
Some gigs I wont even have a large bag,,just a small over the shoulder bag Lowepro big enough to keep a flash some cables and a lens. Gotta travel light and mobile as I dot'n like leaving bags lying around unattended at gigs. But the backback is great as its small enough to work a party or cramped event.

This guy's a fucking moron. If he's constantly shooting with a TC, why bother with FF? They also make a 2x TC.

maybe its safety issues why they set the flash to shut it self off
