For tournament rules the third basemen and the pitcher are required to where a facemask in the field and all batters are supposed to wear a facemask. Its hard to see but ive gotten over it....ive fouled off a bunt and it hit my throat.....that one hurt badly

in CMSA (calgary minor softball assosiation) cages on helmets are mandatory in 2009

personally, I think it should be optional... If a player wants to risk her safety and not wear one.... then go for it.....because I would rather not wear one...

That's why the mask should be a requirement in college and professional softball as well.

I also think all levels of baseball should implement face shields on the batting helmets as well.

In addition, I think infielders should be require to wear face shields (both baseball and softball). As an umpire, my first priority is the safety of the players, hence I believe these things should be required, as they would minimize the number of facial injuries.

it all depends on the direction the ball is moving in as it comes toward you... physics 101. By throwing the ball underhanded, it comes at you in an upward motion...in baseball the ball comes at you downward or level. Which is why hitting in baseball and softball is completely different.

they hit like that cuz the ball comes up at them. when the ball is released from the pitchers hand from an underhand throw it glides upward. when it's coming at you at 60 mph you don't have a choice but to slash at it like that. but being a stupid boy you wouldn't know that.
