Just sounds like the demo that comes on the 90's synths. Give me the science and space exploration TD music of old any day. Every artist loses it at a certain age it seems. Still, if they are having fun then everything is okay:)
The '70 were a great era for them, Optical Race, etc. But they continue to evolve. The use of "traditional" instruments just adds a new element to the music. I gotta believe that if he ever thought the band was stagnating, Froshe would just quit and go back to painting.

This is appalling. What give with the drummer and this bint with the saxophone? I can only conclude Jerome Froese is a fat dick. It's only since his inclusion that this plinky plonky cheese passes for Tang D. Bring back Bauman,Franke and Scmoelling

I agree TD have lost their way, Jerome is a very talented guitarist but his influence has been detrimental imo, and he is/was porking the sax player so's she's gotta get in on the action!

Still one of the best electronic groups. They were the best in the 70's but other artists seemed to have overtaken them. They can still put on a good show though.

the drugs wore off ........i dont know , they just seem to have no depth now and are Glamoured by stardom possibly , to much long wavey hair and orckstar cliches and no depth , cosmos , some nice sounds but the drugs or the spirit wore off maybe.
hmmm, nice one this, although the reason I found this was that I am going to Shepherds Bush Empire in may to see Ween and I wanted to try and see what the venue was like. Looks like a good place to enjoy a live show to me :)
I was actually at this very gig. I don't think it compares well to the gig I went to at the Hammersmith Odeon (1985, I think) but I still had a great time. I think Underwater Sunlight was the last really great album they released. I didn't like how their sound changed after Haslinger joined the band, especially the percussion. Also I think the new era of digital synths had the effect of sanitising TD's sound somewhat.
When you consider how much sonic power TD has at its disposal - the Virus synthis are just awesome, you would think they could come up with something more original sounding; but that is the irony, more technology, less creativity; you could do more with less: like a couple of Korg MS20s and a few effects petals I'm thinking!
the problem is the influence of new age music! The New Age wants to deny that the human psyche has a dark side, which the early TD output did not deny; life is not as simple as peace and love; TD's music reflected the interplay between chaos and order; love and fear, calmness/hysteria, all the human contradictions - deny these and lose artistic integrity and credibility!

This might be Tangerine Dream... but its not the TD i knew and love... I am all for progress and trying new things.. after all , that is what they stood for ... .but this doesnt work imho.
oh well, i guess i am just getting old and the old days are gone :)
Begrudgingly, I have to agree with that whole comment. Last album I bought was Rockoon. No doubt, after thirty odd years, we can't expect 'Tangerine Dream' to be sonically the same. However the 70's and 80'd defined TD simply because of the burgeoning technology - it gave them an identity and a uniqueness. Today, sonically, anything can be achieved with ease, so I don't really know what TD is now.
I saw them live in '88 after Franke left and they brought in the "classical" kid. They were very good.
Everyone on stage had an Atari ST computer in their kits (Remember those 1280 STs?). I think Edgar had four external-hard drives hooked to his ST. Wow! That was cutting-edge stuff back then. It must have cost a fortune to set up that stage.
Whoot! That was my first ever gig! It was great, but I think I was the only person under 16 lol. And yesterday I went to the shepards bush one and again i was the youngest. The singer had a great voice but it didn't work with Tangerine Dream, but apart from that it was great!

That 80's period was the peak for TD.

Great music, shame it's so obviously mimed. The sax part is exactly the same as the 1992 American tour version.
