Part of the problem with that Biblical quotation is that Jesus, and the other characters of the Bible are parabolic. He didn't really do that to a fig tree. It's a parable about faith in the comprehensibility of the orderly nature of reality. The prayer is introspection, looking within for the answers.

1) You're definition of magic still lacks the fundamental component of supernaturalism. Magic is not magic without a supernatural medium, case and point.

The medium of magic is nature or human. Human interpretation can make a natural event seem unnatural.

I reckon a more effective tool for education would simply be to let the kids investigate the dead animal before eating it. I see the animal as a more of a spiritual drawing, but this is all interpretation.
