  • The leap is called a sotashae or have ever spell it!(: but really good!

  • This video makes me depressed. She's really good

  • What do you mean when you say " push through your back leg?"

  • i have an over split on both legs (on the ground lol) but my back leg won't go up for these leaps. Tips?

  • @xxJustinBieberxx101 Do you have your full split? You can't do a straight leap unless you have that. :)

  • How do u get ur legs both straight i cant seem to do that ?

    pleasee helppp ? :D

  • 0:41 wooooooow. I wish I could do that, I just can't get enough elevation! As soon as I'm up I have to come back down again, it's so annoying!

  • i wish mine was that beautiful

  • This isn't a grand jete. In a proper grand jete, the front leg is straight and it brushes instead of snapping. However she has a gorgeous saute de chat!

  • @MandyKim94 this is a stait leap ( jete) no one ever said it was a grand jete

  • @laurenboren94 Okay so if it's a STRAIGHT leap, then why isn't the front leg STRAIGHT??

  • @MandyKim94 im pretty sure it is thanks...

  • @laurenboren94 um no it's not. yes technically it is straight AFTER she bends and snaps it. and if you read a lot of the other comments and know anything at all about dance then you can see that i'm obviously right. regardless, she has a beautiful saute de chat and i was merely pointing out that the video is incorrectly named. So drop it. thanks doll.

  • @MandyKim94 next time if you cant figure out any other way to comment back with out being bitchy then don't at all. saying i dont know anything about dance is just uncalled for and is rude. im sure you dont wana come off that way so next time just dont reply thanks :)

  • @laurenboren94 I'm so done with this stupid argument. Why am I wasting my time commenting back and forth with you? Bye :)

  • @MandyKim94 bye have a good day :)

  • @MandyKim94 it is...?

  • we call those grande jetes

  • @africanbabygirl It's not even a grande jete...this is a saute de chat that they show in the video.

  • This don't even tell you how to do it =(

  • easiest ive learned .. in my 12 years of dancing(;

  • that first position wasnt supposed to be fifth right?

  • so clean and nice!

  • It is not so hard !

  • loveley

  • i just cam in my pants

  • @Mastersargentkelso thats nice.

  • @Mastersargentkelso .... lovely :/

  • omg she's soo flexible and amazing at her leaps! I wish mines could look like that

  • ahhh, this sorta helps, but i want it like herss!

  • Haha these arguments are hilarious. Can't we all just agree her split jete was pretty and leave it at that? Lol lol

  • one word: perfect

  • the chick talking sounds like katy perry

  • i LOVE leaps! They are really easy but UH-MAZINGLY FUN!

  • @friedpicklebbd

    i agreeee! i feel like i'm flyyying! (:

  • thanks that kinda helped me(:

  • i can actualy do this(y) mine is just as high lol tahkns!:)

  • i can ALMOST do it!

  • its easy but i find it easier to prepare by doing a chasse

  • her legs go wayyy behond where they should hahaha jk. but they do go verryyy high

  • i can do this. with full splits but it doesnt look as gracious as her bahah

  • Im jealous of her legs, turnout, height, and perfect leaps.

  • omg i can do that but she makes it look effortless

  • I can do this but I can't get a full split in the air!

  • @missoreoluvr try doing an oversplit.

  • Grand Jeté, much?

  • @ashleesage99 more like saut de chat

  • @evenvy1 it is a saut de chat .. they have diffrent names

  • @ashleesage99 much indeed! it's more like a grand GRAND jete!

  • this is like the easiest leap everr. lol

  • dayum! she's awesome!

  • I do mine with chasse step leap. haha am i doing it wrong?

  • @whitneycyndichiu no u airnt doing it wrong. i learnd in chasse step leap also. that is the most common way and its easier.

  • wow this is good...my leap is nice and open but the only thing i dont like about it is that i develop :P

my teacher says our front leg is supposed to sweep straight off of the floor without bending

  • @juicyPiX there are actually two ways of doing a grand jete, one where you developpe and another where your leg is straight. it really depends on the style you are learning

  • i only have full splits on my right leg but i can still get height on these jumps, so its not really necessary to be that flexible

but she is quite good at them

  • Ahhh! An over split! How is it possible???

  • i love these :) shes so good

  • So I have really nice height on mine and i'm flexible but i can't seem to get a straight leap like i don't split in the air at all it sucks any suggestions?

  • im a gymnast...i'm really good at these if you have leg strength its pretty easy! and if your flexible...that'll help

  • @ttlynikki i was a gymnast but i stopped because i kept moving a lot, and now i can't really do this, i used to do ballet when i was younger but that was a loooonnnngg time ago.

  • wow..she is REALLY good. i wish i was that good..i mean i'm okay at it, but she is amazing!

  • @Amycakes1 I was creeping through the comments and noticed your question. xD

Make sure as soon as you push off the ground that you straighten your leg completely. Really try to push your legs apart from one another. The main thing is to keep the back leg as straight as possible and use the push off the ground to bring your back leg up. Make sure you're really leaping through and not stopping mid-air. Work on your battements and degages to the back. I hope this helped a little. (:

  • @ScRuBsFaNaTiC1

thanks for the adivce,it helped alot!!!

  • how do you spell shodasha?? it's a ballet leap.

  • @dance693 Saut de chat

  • @mirrorblueocean242 oh crap, lol seriously?? i couldn't find it ANYWHERE online so i just put shodasha because that's what it also said online /: crap, thanks anyway!

  • @dance693 Hehe, yea no problem,my teacher gives us quizzes so we have to know the french terminology. Saut de chat = Jump of the Cat

  • @mirrorblueocean242 ohh well that's good. it obviously comes in handy haha if i ever need to know how to spell another move i'll probably come to you! :)

  • is there an easyish way to do the spilts or is it just practise every day

please reply no body knows and i really want to learn the splits

  • @molliecoyle you just have to do a lot of flexibiltiy excersizes. practice your splits every day and just keep working at dance to strenghten your leg muscles and you'll get it in no time :)

  • Are you also able to do this if you can't do a full split?

  • @gangstazmacandmo Definitely - Splits are ideal for being able to do it technically correct and without strain, but you can force your legs into a split in the air with the force from the floor as you leap from plie.

  • how long it takes to learn this can u learn how to do this maxum 5 days>

  • She's amazing. She's also trying to do it slowly which makes it look even more impressive.

  • is this also a saut de chat?

  • how do you get the back leg like hyper extended?

  • Stretch.

  • @neonXcolors

i do a lot of splits and its actually helping because i sometimes forget to shoot my back leg out. but it helps

  • its called a split leap...and extreme dance girl: no part of dance should be completely comfortable. But if its not easy you're not trying hard enough

  • thats amazing! how are ur legs so striaght?! omg

  • it helps when you do 100 jumping jacks 100 curl ups and some push ups and run laps

  • nice leaps.

  • she makes its look soo effortless and easy !

Like its almost in slow motion ! =/

  • @iLaLaLaLaLaLaLuvYou

Oh I know!! This girl is amazing!!! She makes my dance teacher look like poop, and kicks every girl at my studio's ass!! I only WISH I had the ability to do that!!

  • @iLaLaLaLaLaLaLuvYou

it is really easy and thats coming from a 10 year old

  • @iLaLaLaLaLaLaLuvYou it is easy , it not only for the people whos been dancing for years anyone can do it

  • First of all, I am doing it correctly. I wasn't saying that it was comfortable either.

  • Could someone make another tutorial? My team uses step-ball-change, step leap and I really can't relate this one to it!

  • Easy.

  • what dance studio is this at?

  • your girls are really good :)

  • I can't seem to get BOTH of my legs in the air at the same height...I got like, front leg up, then back leg. Dx but this video is helping =)

  • Thats the same problem im having also.

  • devolpe comes up to posse then straightens out. if youre having trouble getting enough 'air' try doing chassé step, chassé step, step step and then jump

  • me too... any tips?

  • i have very high high kicks and can do the splits but i have a lot of trouble spiltting my legs in a leap. any tips?

  • do some strengthening stuff.

this takes way more than flexibility

  • she makes it look sooo easy :@

  • @xxcutecxx its not im 11 and i know

  • @xxcutecxx its not im 11 and i know im in ballet pointe 2

  • @xxcutecxx That's because it is easy.

  • @xxcutecxx

it is really easy and i'm just 10

  • @xxcutecxx it is.

  • @xxcutecxx cause its easy for dancers like me lol

  • sotesha

  • So simple. So beautiful.

  • straight leap is prob the easiest leap there is to do

  • isnt that a develope' leap????????

  • no, a develope leap 'unfolds' into the leap, rather than brings up into the air :) x

  • these are really easy to do (:

  • does anyone know what some good stretches are for these leaps?

  • I would like to know as well.

  • lunges (sp?) and splits. in my opinion. they work really well to get your flexibilty

  • well, i would say good stretches for doing leaps would definatlyyy be splitss...strattles and the butterfly stretch would also be good...but should also do feet excercises so you can push off the floor.....you could do sautes....(a jump starting in 1st position and then you jump and land back in first position..in plie) or you could just do tondues making sure you roll thru your feet...

  • do oversplits

  • splits.

  • splits.

  • her leg bends, so it's called a sodesha leap. grand jete's are with a straight leg.

  • straight leap?

  • zomg!

  • does anyone have any tips on how to keep the back leg straight? if u could leav a message or something on my profile i would appreciate it very much!

  • haha its like actually a grande jete. but that was very good.

  • who cares what its called! its amazing!

  • really really good leap. isnt it called a grande jete?

  • yes.

  • i think thats the ballet term...

  • Dont worry i knew what u mean

  • That is a grand padsha

  • thats called basic? lol, i must reallly suck because for "basic" mine isn't that good

  • wow the legs are past the hips :)

  • You should post a video on how to do a scisor leap!

  • i totally agree. but that would kinda be hard to explain in slow motion

  • oh you're fine:) I don't find it mean...

yeah I'm just saying that's how you spell it... I don't spell french either, I just learn how to spell the dance terms since I'm dancing them.

  • thats just a grande jete ~ but shes really good..

  • I have trouble keeping my back leg straight and getting it horizontal. Any tips?

  • thats just a grand jete

  • Just call it a Jete' ;)

  • isn't that just a sodachaw?

  • It's Saut de Chat

  • ya I heard the bang

  • theres three ways:

    saut de chat

    developpe or just normall..

  • i normally call them jettay's or is that something different and i dnt know how to spell it

  • jete.

    :]

  • yep spelt jete

  • she makes it look so easy!!!

  • That really helped :D

  • really good job on the leap

  • that looked so light and easy. i can do that well but not as perfect as she does

  • umm she's like totally too strong! but shes really really good!

  • How can you be too strong?

  • good leap, but where's the artistry?? the arms

  • practice makes perfect...thats the proverb...she has done it marvellous.

  • I can leap (obviously) but not that well. Probably because my left and right splits arent' that good. But i can do a middle/stradle split, that's probably why my side/open leaps are so good!

  • Pretty much, amazing.

  • That was such a beautiful leap. <3 I hope that I will be able to get to that point some day.

  • that is so easy try doing center switch leaps !!!!! you need to have your spilts and strong muscles with your legs and use a large plea! good luck

  • doing a leap like that takes a lot of time but i've never heard of those worm ups before when i learned i just practiced my over split

  • What the hell!!! In batontwirling we do these and i can nver get my legz that wide and striaght!!! grrrrr!!!!

  • Nice! I've never heard them called a straight leap, though.

  • thats so big!

  • dang.... :)

    help?

  • I'm trying to teach myself the left and right splits before I try the middle splits, and have been trying the Grande Jete for about two years now. It may be because I have a s**t teacher whos telling us to 'walk' them, but I'm still nowhere near. Can anyone tell me what exercises to do so that I can actually progress?

  • a grande jete is different from a jazz "forward leap". you may just have to go into a deeper plie when you leap.

  • 0:52 WOW!!!!!!!

  • i can do this

    it took awile though

    you really have to practice

  • Pas De Chat is when you jump sideways like a cat. (Facing the audience) Saute De Chat is when there is a small split jump (or leap), pre Grand Jete. This is a Grande Jete. . . also known as a 'big jump' in French.

  • i'm really good at them

  • i can do my right split

and almost my left and i can't do my right leap

  • i can promise you it will take more than a simple split to be able to jump like that................think more in the oversplit range

  • so if your able to oversplit leaping will be easy?

  • No, not necessarily. I can do a split on my right and left but not the middle and I can do a great leap. If you want a cleaner more technical look of a leap, an oversplit range would help tremendously but it is not necessary. Just keep on practicing because that's how you're going to achieve it.

  • not exactly, but it does help a lot. when i first started dancing these were hard for me, but after a little bit i finally got some muscle and perfected my splits, and i can do them like the video now. except mine doesnt really look effortless like hers does.

  • oversplit+muscle+practice=good leaps.

  • a grande jete is like doing a split in the air

  • I meant Saut de chat, not Pas de chat, sorry. But you guys are right, it isn't ballet anyway.

  • they have good posture

  • This isn't a Grand Jete. It is a pas de chat (correct spelling, strawberryblast229).

  • That is definitely a jazz grand jete...it is absolutely nothing like a pas de chat!!

  • saut de chat, yeah, but this isn't ballet...

  • hey. i've only been dancing a year, but i can easily do both of splits. But i can't quite get my leap down. I'm not sure if i have the ab strength, could that be whats holding me back?

  • its not only doing splits, you have to jump high and keep your legs straight in the air

  • omqq i have my leap like that

but ive been dancing for 12 years and trust me its not easy getting it like that

what i did was ii did my held my right and left split everyday while i did my homework or like watched tv for as long as i could and i did my strattlr and over strattle against the wall and i got it!
