  • Burl Ives probably sings the best version of "Pearly Shells"

  • .....many people don't know how big a trip this guy could be.....my parents used to go to some of his concerts....at one there was a " heckler" and Ives gave him the finger (on stage)....he got in a fistfight with one of his stagehands at another.....

  • I wonder what two blind mice hit the dislike button on an accident??

  • Like him very much, his voice is magic.

  • Great music of old. I also grew up in this time span, and life did seem simpler and the stars, singers preformers of then were much more than today. I miss a lot of them . Bless em all.

  • This singer was my Dad's favorite. This song played in our house on an old "Hi-Fi" along with all the stars from that day. I too grew up with Burl Ives, Dean Martin, Jo Stafford, Julie London, Jim Reeves on and on. On the television we watched Bonanza, Red Skelton, Milton Berle, Arthur Godfrey. We didn't know it but that was such a gentle innocent time compared to what we have today. I miss it greatly as I get older.

  • If you grew up in the ? 50's to the 70's? Who did not like Burl Ives! His voice was incredibly melodious! His songs were catchy and you wanted to sing along. I loved watching him on the Disney movies and listening to him sing. I actually have the VHS copy of "So Dear to my Heart" Starring "Burl Ives" one of Walt Disney's most cherished films. Every now and when I want to watch a great old fashioned movie classic? I pull it out, dust off my VCR and enjoy Burl Ives all over again!

  • @Rainbow1iz Do you think you tube would let you put it on so maybe the rest of us could get to see it.

  • Such a wonderful evocative sound of more innocent, simpler times. I just love the beautiful sentiments in the lyrics as well. Thanks for posting!

  • can someone pleas put on the brass bottle movie with burl ives and

    tony randall etc

  • Burl Ives was a very good actor and an outstanding song interpreter, one of my favorite singers. In my opinion, he was a little better singer than Bing Crosby, but he didn't have the opportunity to sing with the beautiful women Bing sang with such as Peggy Lee, Dinah Shore, Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney, probably because he wasn't good looking enough like Bing. Just looking at Burl makes me laugh and puts a smile on my face.

  • @VealParmigiana Good looks don't make a good singer

  • grew up with this!!! Song you could sing to! :-)

  • A GREAT VOICE---A GREAT FREEMASON

  • You are all forgetting something - Jerry Byrd on the lapsteel guitar. He is the best lapsteel player ever. What would this song be without the lapteel guitar ?. However, it would still be a great song.

  • A legend

  • Great song by a great man !

  • I'm 40 years old and Ive never appreciated this song until now. I was 6 years then (70s) when I first heard this music while I was still in the pre-school. I didnt thought this will be the most memorable song I will ever cherish for the rest of my life. I was so deprived of my childhood and wish I can bring it back and enjoy the time.

  • My dad had this album! I remember the album cover and the cigar in his hand!

  • -I was born in 79 - NONE of my peers even know who Burl Ives was.... May he, and the other greats rest in peace. -LOL, not even many of my peers knows what a 45 record is.... (they think its a drink)!

  • @peteboy1113 Finally! Some one that thinks and speaks my language! I am 43 and despise and have hated the abusive speech that demoralizes our English language! My Grandmother always taught me that people who resort to that kind of talk are only showing how much less of their minds that are using and don't look to further and expand their vocabulary! They are not very knowledgeable. She would say of these ones..." when you meet them give them a dictionary!" " It would be the best thing for them!"

  • @peteboy1113 I bet the movie you're thinking of is Ensign Pulver

  • thank you for this wonderful posting.

  • Anyone have Burl Ives Mary ann Regrets?

  • I like his version of this beautiful song.

  • Hi Alan, thank you so much for posting this. I was born in '63 but listened to this kind of music through my Mum whilst growing up. I have a huge smile on my face now listening to this. Again...a big thank you from Katie in Oz.

  • I Loved Burl Ives growing up, Christmas Songs, Children's Songs. It is a shame this song now hidden because all the kids today in America have missed out on such a wonderful Spirit and Soul from God in their lives

  • What a blast from way past the past

  • Anyone can show me how to download this song? thanks

  • i love this music i sing this to my little cousin when she was a baby!

  • He was great!

  • there is so few singers like this anymore. Makes you just feel good inside.

  • Happy little song. Good for your health too! Recommended dose: once in the morning, (on an empty stomach).Of course!

  • Love you Big Daddy.

  • I agree with Labaron26 - another lost legend!

    Uncomparible voice. Great artist.

  • Along with Jim Reeves, Elvis Presley, and many other country stars as I percieve Elvis' early music to be genuine bluegrass country

  • Yes a true legend a great actor singer and above all a GREAT american

  • thank you for this wonderful posting.

  • Great voice, Great actor, Great man. Another lost lengend.
